Abstract

The current development of Arabic language learning in Indonesia is still not optimal, because there are still many obstacles that have to faced especially by students in its implementation. The study examines the impact of "As-Sa’ah Media" on enhancing students' comprehension of 'adad tartibi (ordinal numbers) in Arabic language learning in Indonesia. The research employs a Quasi-Experimental design, specifically the Nonequivalent Pretest-Posttest Control Design. The population in this study was taken from grade VIII students of MTs Ishlahul Amanah totaling 215 students, involving two classes as a research sample. Class VIII F, with students facing difficulties in 'adad tartibi, serves as the experimental group, while Class VIII E, demonstrating better understanding, serves as the control group. Pretest and posttest assessments on As-Sa'ah material are administered, with hypothesis testing conducted using one sample t-test. Results indicate that students using As-Sa’ah media show improved comprehension of 'adad tartibi, evidenced by increased average grades compared to those using conventional methods.

Abstract

Teaching through e-learning platforms is a common activity deliberately performed by Open University. Later, this process escalated and transformed into a trend due to the advanced development of technology and unforeseen phenomena like the COVID-19 pandemic. However, teaching and learning within the platform are not equally similar in terms of sense and practice. Particularly, assessing student progress and reflecting on the learning process that has been done might not be as easy as what conventional or offline classes can offer. This research provides one particular way to assess it. Through the eyes of students as well as tutors, we could also gain valuable information regarding how learning within e-learning environments has been performed. This research applied qualitative analysis with the help of questionnaire, as well as NVivo as the tool for natural language processing analysis. A total of 66 tutors and approximately 471 students were involved. Based on the findings and analysis, it is shown that tutors tend to mention 7 frequent words, while students mention 8 words. Each word was analyzed by the researcher, leading to two conclusions for tutors. They perceived that the teaching process was hindered by students’ constraints and technical issues. Meanwhile, students faced problems related to slow feedback, lack of communication, and clarity, especially toward students’ answers.

Qualitative method is used in this research. To collect the data needed, the observation and interview were done to an English teacher. The finding revealed that the challenges faced by English teacher were challenges in; a) classroom management, b) dealing with students' lack of general cognition, c) overcoming students' lack of focus, d) overcoming students' short memories, e) improving students' English vocabulary pronunciation. Furthermore, the solutions to solve those challenges were by a) using a group learning model, b) choosing fun media and method, c) using concrete objects, 4) using ice breaking, d) references modification, 5) repetition. Thus, English teacher faced many challenges in teaching students with mild intellectual disability. Indeed, there are several previous studies that discuss this issue, however, it is still too little. Abstract

RAP (Read, Ask, and Put) is a strategy that instructs students to focus their reading on a particular section of the text, consider the main idea and supporting ideas of the paragraph or passage, and then explain it in their own words. This study aims to determine the achievement of fourth-year students at Gontor for girls 2nd campus in reading comprehension using the RAP strategy since the researchers found that their reading comprehension is still low. This research used a quantitative experimental method with an experimental non-equivalent control group design. The population in this study were all fourth-year students of Gontor for girls 2nd campus with 79 students and used probability sampling which is simple random sampling. The method used in data collection is the test method and is complemented by some documentation. For the data analysis, it used the formula SPSS 22. This study concluded that the use of the RAP strategy in teaching reading comprehension on reading subjects proved effective with the formula-test acquisition value of Sig.(2.tailed) 0.009 < 0.05. Based on the conclusion, the researcher provided suggestions, they are (1) the RAP Strategy is very likely to be used to teach the reading subject to students because the students try to think critically and will understand the text with comprehension; (2) it is hoped that teachers will develop and try to apply the RAP strategy in teaching reading. Thus, the students can independently find the main idea and use their prior knowledge of vocabulary

Abstract

In this study, students' perceptions regarding their preference for digital or printed reading materials were analyzed using a quantitative approach. The research design employed was a survey with a descriptive design. This design aimed to collect opinions and preferences from students regarding their reading habits and experiences with both digital and print materials. A questionnaire was used to gather data from 103 students in grade 12 (science, social science, and language studies) at SMAN 10 Malang. The study showed that most students liked both printed and digital materials, but slightly preferred digital ones. They enjoyed reading digitally more than on paper because it was easier and convenient, though they felt equally comfortable with both. Students liked the appealing design of both, but digital content intrigued them more. They understood that both were important for learning English, but they favored digital materials for being up-to-date. However, they found it easier to take notes with printed materials. The study found that most students liked both digital and printed materials, but they slightly favored digital ones. The mean score for digital reading materials was 3.92, while for printed materials, it was 3.68. Overall, they did not find either format too difficult, finding digital materials quick to access but feeling neutral towards printed ones. Although students recognized the benefits of digital resources, their preference for learning from digital materials over print was neutral.
