Abstract

This study examined the correlation between procedural skills and ability to answer mathematics questions among 5th grade elementary school students. Specifically, it aimed to determine: (1) the level of students’ procedural skills; (2) the level of their ability to answer mathematics questions; and (3) whether procedural skills significantly contribute to students’ ability to answering mathematics questions. Using a quantitative correlational design, the study involved 62 5th grade students from three public elementary schools in Ngemplak sub-District, Boyolali Regency, selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using a 20-item procedural skills questionnaire and a 5-item essay test on fractions and plane geometry. Simple linear regression analysis revealed a strong and significant positive relationship between procedural skills and ability to answer mathematics questions (R = 0.893, R² = 0.798, F = 237.237 > F table, p < 0.001). The regression model Y = –29.892 + 1.332X indicated that procedural skills contributed 79.8% to the variance in students’ ability to answer mathematics questions scores. These findings suggest that students with higher procedural fluency demonstrate better mathematical accuracy and structured thinking. Theoretically, this reinforces the view that procedural mastery is essential for supporting effective mathematical reasoning. Practically, the results imply that teachers need to emphasize systematic step-by-step processes in mathematics instruction to strengthen students’ ability to answer questions at the elementary level.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between visual literacy and computational thinking among fifth-grade elementary school students in Argomulyo District. Visual literacy refers to students' ability to understand, interpret, and communicate information through visual media, while computational thinking refers to the ability to think logically, systematically, and structurally in solving problems. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The population in this study was all fifth-grade students from various elementary schools in the Argomulyo subdistrict, and the sample consisted of fifth-grade students at SDN Cebongan 03, SDN Noborejo 01, SDN Randuacir 02, and SDN Randuacir 03. The sampling technique used was stratified random sampling. Data collection was conducted using an essay-type test. The instruments used were questionnaires and tests that had been validated by experts. The validation techniques used included validity tests and reliability tests. Data analysis techniques used prerequisite analysis tests, namely normality and linearity tests, followed by hypothesis testing using simple correlation tests. The results of this study show that visual literacy and computational thinking have a positive and significant relationship that can be explained through the interconnection between visual literacy and computational thinking. The data analysis results indicate a significant relationship between visual literacy and computational thinking, as evidenced by a significance level of <0.05. This finding suggests that the higher the visual literacy skills of students, the better their computational thinking abilities. Therefore, developing learning that effectively integrates visual elements can be a strategy to enhance students' computational thinking skills at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition learning model on the ability to read comprehension of short stories of grade V elementary school students. This research is a quantitative research with quasi experimental design method with nonequivalent control group design. The sampling technique was carried out with one of the probability sampling techniques. The research sample consisted of two classes randomly selected from the population of grade V elementary school students in the orchid cluster. The experimental class used the CIRC learning model, while the control class used conventional learning. Data collection was carried out using test techniques. The data were analyzed using the independent sample t-test. Group discussion activities in this learning model also play a role in helping students understand the meaning of words the context of the story more deeply. The results of the analysis show a significance value (Sig. 2 tailed) of 0.007 <0.05, which means there is a significant difference between the learning outcomes of students in experimental and control classes. Thus, the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition learning model has a positive effect on the ability to read comprehension of short stories.

Abstract

Abstract. The results of the PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) show that the cognitive abilities of Indonesian students are ranked low. Cognitive abilities in mathematics can be improved on condition that students must have higher order thinking skills (HOTS). Therefore, the government has made an educational assessment model in Indonesia directed towards the HOTS assessment model, one of which is in the Final Semester Assessment (FSA). Based on these problems, this study aims to describe the Final Semester Assessment questions for math class IV at Dukuhan Kerten Elementary School for the 2022/2023 academic year based on thinking levels, by classifying questions based on Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS), Middle Order Thinking Skills (MOTS), and Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). There are two instruments in this study, the main instrument which is the researcher, and the supporting instruments in the form of guidelines for analyzing the cognitive level of Final Semester Assessment questions in class IV mathematics. The instrument was compiled based on according to the cognitive levels of Bloom revised by Anderson and Krathwohl. This research found that out of 35 items, there were 13 questions that belonged to the HOTS cognitive level, in addition, 16 questions were dominated by the C3 cognitive level, then 3 questions included the C2 cognitive level, then 3 questions included the C1 cognitive level. In this question, there is also a stimulus in the form of pictures, graphs, and diagrams.Keywordsi: final semester assessment, High Orders Thingking Skills (HOTS), Mathematic

Abstract

Abstract. Abstract. The purpose of this research is to describe the mathematical logical intelligence of fifth-grade students in solving word problems on the topic of Volume at SD Negeri Rejosari 01. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach to analyze the data of students' mathematical logical intelligence levels with 17 student subjects through document studies, teacher interviews, and student interviews. Data validation was done using the triangulation technique. The data analysis technique used three simultaneous activities: data reduction, data presentation, and data conclusion/verification. The results showed that students with high mathematical logical intelligence were able to perform mathematical calculations, solve problems, use inductive and deductive reasoning, recognize patterns in information and data, but still did not fully meet the ability to think logically optimally. Students with moderate mathematical logical intelligence were able to perform mathematical calculations but were lacking in other aspects. Students with low mathematical logical intelligence almost did not meet any of the mathematical logical intelligence abilities optimally.
