Abstract

Critical thinking skills include skills that individuals use to analyze and evaluate information in depth to find the right solution. Emotional intelligence can help students develop critical thinking skills. Emotional intelligence helps students understand and manage emotions, empathize, self-motivate, and be able to solve problems. This study aims to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and critical thinking skills in science learning for grade VI elementary school students in Cluster 1, Serengan District. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. This research was conducted at SDN Bunderan No. 164, SDN Danukusuman, and SDN Slembaran with total of 68 students. The results of this study explain that students have a level of emotional intelligence and critical thinking skills in the moderate category. The results of the hypothesis test using the Pearson Product Moment method showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) <0.001 with a Pearson correlation value of 0.597. It can be concluded that there is a positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and critical thinking skills in the moderate category. Emotional intelligence has a role in forming critical thinking skills but is not a dominant factor, so there are other factors that contribute to critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Learning narrative writing in elementary schools requires students to develop ideas coherently and choose the right words, so it requires the support of appropriate learning media. This study aims to analyze differences in narrative writing abilities based on the use of picture series media and text-based media, the level of vocabulary mastery, and the interaction between the two variables. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method through a 2x2 factorial design. The subjects were fourth-grade elementary school students. Data were collected through narrative writing ability tests and vocabulary mastery tests that have been declared valid and reliable, then analyzed using two-way analysis of variance. The results of the study showed differences in narrative writing abilities between students taught using picture series media and text-based media, as well as between students with high and low levels of vocabulary mastery. In addition, there was an interaction between learning media and vocabulary mastery in relation to narrative writing abilities. These findings demonstrate the importance of selecting appropriate learning media and strengthening vocabulary mastery in narrative writing learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the outdoor study method in enhancing ecological intelligence in the cognitive aspect among fifth-grade elementary school students in Adiwiyata schools in Laweyan District. While outdoor learning is known to promote environmental awareness, its impact on cognitive ecological understanding remains underexplored in the elementary context. One experimental class used outdoor study as part of a quasi-experimental design, whereas the control class used traditional classroom instruction.  The Wilcoxon signed-rank test, Mann-Whitney U test, and effect size calculation were used to examine the data, which were gathered utilizing pretests, posttests, and N-Gain analysis.  The experimental group's posttest scores significantly outperformed the control group, according to the results, which also indicated a larger effect size and higher N-Gain score.  These results imply that outdoor study enhances students' ecological cognitive abilities more than traditional approaches. However, successful implementation requires contextual learning activities and active engagement with the local environment. The study reinforces the importance of experiential learning in fostering meaningful understanding of environmental issues in early education.

Abstract

Arabic language learning in madrasah plays a strategic role in shaping students’ basic competencies, especially in Islamic boarding schools where Arabic is the primary language of Islamic studies. This study aims to analyze the development of Arabic language learning at MTs Pontren Al-Ihsan, focusing on curriculum, methods, media, and students’ outcomes. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that Arabic language learning at MTs Pontren Al-Ihsan has undergone significant development. In terms of methods, teachers no longer rely solely on the qawaid tarjamah approach but have begun to implement communicative and practice-based strategies. Regarding media, learning has developed from the use of classical textbooks and turath books to the utilization of simple technology such as projectors and digital applications. These developments have positively impacted students’ proficiency in the four Arabic language skills, although challenges remain, including limited facilities, low student motivation, and the shortage of competent teachers. This study recommends strengthening teacher capacity, improving learning facilities, and integrating traditional and modern methods to ensure the sustainability of Arabic language learning in madrasah.

Abstract

Speaking skills are skills that every individual must have. As with other skills, speaking skills need to be honed so that people can master them well. After online learning in 1st grade to 3rd grade, students are less competent in speaking. Therefore, action needs to be taken to improve students' speaking skills. There are several ways to improve speaking skills, one of which is by implementing the active debate learning model. The active debate learning model is an active learning model that involves two camps as a pro team and a con team. Learning with this model requires students to speak to convey their arguments. Research was conducted on the utilization of the active debate learning model, with the objective of enhancing students' speaking proficiency. This study was part of Classroom Action Research, employing the performance method. As the debate learning model begins, there are seven aspects of assessing students' speaking skills, they are: 1) courage to appear, 2) diction, 3) intonation, 4) volume, 5) articulation, 6) speaking fluency, and 7) understanding of the material. The results of research using the active debate learning model were that students' skills increased from 64.3% in cycle I to 82.14% in cycle II. Therefore, it can be inferred that implementing the active debate model has the potential to enhance students' oral communication abilities.
