Abstract

This research at a private Islamic junior high school aimed to explore the impact of teachers' efforts beyond the classroom on student learning and overall educational enhancement. A qualitative research using observations and a Google Form questionnaire was employed to gather insights from teachers about their initiatives, including professional development, collaboration, outdoor and experiential learning, student engagement and support, project-based learning, cultural and international understanding, character education, continuous improvement and innovation, community and environmental engagement, and technological integration. The research addressed a gap in understanding the holistic effects of teachers' extracurricular efforts on students. Key findings substantially positively impacted student motivation, vocabulary, critical thinking, confidence, and overall well-being. The effectiveness percentages highlighted the success of specific initiatives, with the Intercultural Understanding Program ranking highest at 31.59%. The results indicated alignment with various educational theories, emphasizing the need for a multifaceted and dynamic approach to education. The positive sentiment among teachers underscored their collective belief in the significant contribution of these efforts to overall educational improvement. Implications suggest the importance of continuous professional development, collaborative learning communities, and holistic approaches in shaping a positive and engaging educational environment.

Abstract

This research provides a systematic overview of trends in English Language Teaching (ELT) by analyzing 358 articles published in the JEELS and SIELE journals from 2019 to 2023. The purpose of the study is to explore the patterns and themes of academic researches that have emerged in the field of teaching English as a second or foreign language, particularly focusing on the methodologies and data collection instruments utilized in these articles. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed, utilizing bibliometric research methods to analyze the selected articles. Data collection involved reviewing published articles and categorizing them based on research design, sample types, data collection tools and subject of articles. The analysis revealed that the majority of the sample consisted of university students or adults, with a remarkable 99% of the research employing applied methodologies. Observation and questionnaires emerged as the most frequently used data collection instruments. These findings indicate significant trends in teaching practices and learner-related issues, underscoring the evolving landscape of ELT research over the past five years.

Abstract

The establishment of Integrated Islamic Schools addresses perceived gaps in the National Education System, particularly in addressing modern scientific and technological challenges. Concerns about declining moral values among students, including issues like substance abuse and juvenile delinquency, have driven this response. This study examines how integrated Islamic schools in West Lombok, NTB, incorporate Islamic values into English language education. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the research focused on teaching tools such as syllabi and lesson plans, analyzing how Islamic values were integrated. The subjects included three English teachers and two vice principals from different schools. The analysis revealed that Islamic values were not incorporated into the syllabi, lesson plans, or teaching procedures, as required by JSIT (Integrated Islamic School Network). Interviews indicated that teachers neglected curriculum analysis and failed to define the Islamic values to be included, largely due to insufficient training. Consequently, the anticipated integration of Islamic values in English language learning has not been achieved. A review of lesson plans and syllabi confirmed this gap, highlighting a significant shortfall in the expected implementation of Islamic value integration in these schools.

Abstract

In today's digital era characterized by pervasive technology, students are increasingly expected to attain proficiency in various aspects of the English language, including adept listening skills. Leveraging modern tools, such as the Discord application, which falls under the realm of mobile-assisted language learning (MALL), presents a promising avenue for effectively enhancing listening abilities. This study endeavors to evaluate the efficacy of Discord in facilitating the listening-learning process. The research involved 60 English Education students, divided into control and experimental groups. Using a quasi-experimental quantitative approach, the research aimed to assess the effectiveness of Discord in improving listening competence. Pre-tests and post-tests were administered to both groups to collect data, and the results were analyzed using statistical methods to measure the impact. The findings revealed significant improvements in the listening skills of the experimental group, demonstrating that Discord can serve as an effective tool for enhancing listening comprehension among English students. These results suggest that incorporating Discord into pedagogical practices can positively influence language acquisition in a mobile-assisted learning context.
