Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is a basic thing that must be mastered by someone in learning a language. Unfortunately, currently many EFL students still have difficulty mastering English vocabulary. One of the media that can be used by teachers to improve students' vocabulary mastery is word wall (Supraba, 2019). The objectives of this research are to analyze the use of wordwall.net media in teaching English vocabulary and also to identify the advantages and disadvantages of using wordwall.net according to the perceptions of English teachers in teaching English vocabulary to Physical Education students at Dehasen University Bengkulu. This research was field research with a descriptive qualitative method. The data was collected based on observations, interviews and documentations. The results of study showed that teaching vocabulary (with an emphasis on nouns) through word wall media can improve students' vocabulary, and researchers found the most effective method for teaching English vocabulary (with an emphasis on nouns and verbs) through word wall media. In addition, the use of wordwall.net is also considered effective in increasing the motivation and enthusiasm of Physical Education students in learning English by answering questions in turns so that they are challenged to compete with friends and not learn monotonously by sitting and listening on a bench. Meanwhile, the advantages of wordwall.net include various interesting features, automatic reporting of results, providing printable and easily accessible materials. On the other hand, its disadvantages include being prone to fraud because students can access links freely anytime and anywhere, they have the opportunity to work together or cheat on each other without the teacher's knowledge. In addition, both teacher and learner should know on how to use smartphone, PC, or Laptop in order to access and to operate the wordwall.net application.

Abstract

Vocabulary is essential in learning a foreign language. This study aims to determine how frequently and how the students feel about the usage of vocabulary acquisition tactics by 22 undergraduate EFL learners. The purposes of this study are achieved by utilizing a descriptive qualitative research methodology. Data for this inquiry were gathered using both questionnaires and observation. Analysis of the interactive simulation developed by Miles and Huberman, which involves data reduction, data display, and conclusion drafting, was the method of data analysis employed in this study. The study's findings show that students use 17 different vocabulary-building strategies. The vocabulary acquisition strategies that the students in this study selected and used were significantly influenced by their teaching and learning environment, culture, learning preferences, and sources of motivation. Every student has a different learning style that they find most effective in increasing their vocabulary as well as vocabulary.

Abstract

Language phenomena during political years are always extraordinary. Drama is a constant presence, both online and offline, manifesting in various forms such as social media or real-life situations. Despite the inevitability of this problem due to the unavoidable nature of the election season, some deputy candidates are diligently creating political communication strategies to gain acceptance from the broader society. It is essential to comprehend these strategies collectively to ensure that the selected representatives do not consistently project an unfavorable image. Prior research has indeed been conducted on political communication and humor, but as distinct areas of study. This research combines the concept of humor with transitivity theory to thoroughly and precisely investigate the data. The approach employed is qualitative, underpinned by Halliday's transitivity theory and van Dijk's critical discourse analysis. The data source is the legislative interview (wawancaleg) on the channel @Abdel.Achrian. The data were collected using the observation method, which involved the basic technique of listening and the advanced technique of taking notes. The analysis reveals that the predominant structure of political communication discussion in the legislative interview program, hosted by Abdel Achrian, is characterized by material and mental processes. The material and mental processes achieve equilibrium between the physical and the mental, creating a demeanor that is both calm and earnest. The reader can infer that this pattern is applicable to speech patterns characterized by a relaxed or non-stiff expression, but nevertheless conveying a serious impression.

Abstract

This qualitative case study explores the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PBL) stages by an English teacher to enhance language acquisition among young learners in an Indonesian elementary school. The research examines the specific PBL stages employed and investigates students' perceptions of these stages in relation to their English language development. Classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis were used to collect data from the participating teacher and students. The findings reveal that the teacher implemented a four-stage PBL approach: Starting the Project, Developing the Project, Reporting to the Class, and Assessing the Project. Each stage incorporated key PBL principles such as student autonomy, authentic tasks, scaffolding, and ongoing assessment. Students expressed positive perceptions of the PBL stages, highlighting benefits such as clear project introduction, engaging research activities, valuable teacher feedback, and peer collaboration. They also reported increased motivation to use English due to the teacher's encouragement, personal interest, and the project's engaging nature. Although, some viewed English use as merely a project requirement. The study concludes that the PBL stages implemented by the teacher positively enhanced students' English language learning. The findings contribute to the understanding of PBL implementation in EFL contexts, providing insights into young learners' experiences with this approach and highlighting the potential of PBL to enhance language skills and engagement. Simultaneously, the study identifies areas for improvement in PBL implementation, offering valuable guidance for educators seeking to optimize this approach in their classrooms.
