Abstract

Online learning has been implemented as a strategic solution many universities during the Covid-19 outbreak. The aimed this research was to found correlation between students learning readiness and students satisfaction .The research employs quantitative research method using correlation design. The population of this research using random sampling was carried out 2nd-8th semester of English Education Study Program at IAIN Palangkaraya in which consist 92 respondents, in order to collected the data, the researcher was used questionnaire and analyzed with Pearson product moment correlation. The result was found that there was a positive and significant relationship between learning readiness and satisfaction with a correlation coefficient of 0.609 at the significance level α = 0.05. Learning readiness on student satisfaction is included in the strong category, which is in the range 0.61-0.80 and has a determination coefficient of 0.37, which means that the variance of satisfaction 37% is determined by the variance of learning readiness. Keywords:  Online learning, Learning Readiness, Satisfaction

Abstract

This article reports a study aimed to investigate students' motivation in reading comprehension using a contextual learning approach (adapted from Crawford, 2001) and to find out the benefits of Contextual teaching learning in improving reading motivation. This research used a qualitative case research design. The data obtained from several instruments, namely interviews and questionnaires. The findings show that learning using CTL contributed to students' reading motivation. They admitted that the approach allowed them to practice pronunciation, increased their vocabulary knowledge and made Reading activities easier and more enjoyable. Keywords:  Contextual Teaching Learning, Reading Motivation

Abstract

This study investigated how students are stimulated to improve their vocabulary through the Vocabulary Card Bank project on Instagram and how they perceive it. The students were instructed to create their vocabulary cards weekly for one semester on Instagram. In this mixed-method study, the participants were first-year students in English Language Education Department at Universitas Internasional Batam. All data were collected using a questionnaire and interview. The findings showed that the majority of the students who participated in this study recognize the Vocabulary Cards Bank Project has many benefits as it can improve their vocabulary and write sentences in English. The vocabulary card posted on Instagram helped them find new English words other than textbooks and dictionaries. Abstract

Language it was really important in human life. Pragmatics is the ability of person to derive meanings from context of speech situation. This study is an attempt to analyzes a types of deixis are used in “The Legend of Tangkuban Parahu Story”. This study was purposed to find out of person deixis, place deixis, temporal deixis and identify which the most dominant of deixis that used in the story. This study only focused on the story. This story got from the Internet. The researcher choose to analyze the story because in the story there must be a contextual meaning. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method in this research. The steps to analyze data are searching the story, reading the story, and finding the data based on three types of deixis. The results of this research it can be concluded types of deixis that used in this story were person deixis, spatial deixis, and temporal deixis. In this research, there was 39 deixis found in the text. The most common type of deixis is person deixis which consist with 19 words. In this study, the researcher find out that person deixis is the most dominant type that found in the text. Keywords: Pragmatics, Deixis, Story

Abstract

English is one of the subjects studied by Indonesia students' ranging from Junior High School until University. One aspect that plays an important role in learning English is vocabulary mastery. For that reason, the purpose of this study is to know whether or not there is any improvement of vocabulary mastery by using an index card match strategy. This research was conducted at SMPN 4 Cikalongwetan using the classroom action research (CAR) method with 30 students as samples. Learning using the index card match itself is considered to be able to increase vocabulary mastery as an impact of interesting and exciting learning, it can be seen from the score of post-test which is higher than the pre-test score, with a pre-test score of 64.66, post-test score cycle 1 of 79.33 and post-test score cycle-2 of 83,66. This means the index card match strategy is effective to improve students' vocabulary mastery. Keywords:  Vocabulary, Index Card Match, CAR

Abstract

Descriptive qualitative method is used in this study. This study aimed to investigate nouns and the variety of nouns found in a song entitled Lost in Japan by Shawn Mendes. In collecting the data, the researchers applied three steps, namely selecting one song to be examined, read and elaborate the song lyrics to discover nouns, and classify nouns based on the types. Based on the data analysis, the researchers discovered 16 nouns with seven types of nouns. All nouns can be indicated to more than one type. The results are summarized as follows; 15 common nouns, 1 proper noun, 11 abstract nouns, 5 concrete nouns, 12 countable nouns, 4 uncountable nouns, and 4 compound nouns. Keywords:  Noun, Song lyrics, Types of noun

Abstract

In the midst of the current outbreak of the Covid-19 virus, online learning, including learning English, is the right choice. This type of learning in its implementation requires supporting applications. Among the applications that can be used for learning English include Zoom, and Google Classroom. The use of these applications will be examined through this research. The use of this application aims to see the increase of ability in learning English course, namely in terms of reading skill. The participants in question are 12 2018 students majoring in Early Childhood Education (PG-PAUD) who, in the even semester of the 2019/2020 Academic Year, took the course English for Scientific Works, so at the same time, they are the samples of this research. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative and the design is a case study. The results show that the participants can improve their English skills, especially in reading and writing, through this online learning. The proof is that their scores, both in every meeting and mid-term or last-term test, have always improved. Keywords:  Online Learning, Learning Achievement, English

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the students’ engagement in implementing the stage of peer feedback in learning recount text writing skill and the students’ perception toward the peer feedback strategy in learning recount text writing skill. This study was collected using qualitative approach which provided descriptive explanation. The subject of this study were four junior high school students. Since these days COVID-19 was still happening, this research didn’t carried out in school instead of through Zoom Meeting for the first meeting and the second meeting at researcher’s place within the health protocols. The instruments of this study were field note and questionnaire. Moreover, the result found that the students engagement in implementing each stage of peer feedback strategy were very good. Furthermore, the students perception toward peer feedback strategy were as follow, (1) peer feedback technique helped them in learning writing recount texts, (2) peers' comments and suggestions had an impact for them to be better in writing recount text, (3) having problems while checking their peers’ works since they were lack of grammatical and limit in vocabullaries. Keywords:  Peer feedback, Writing Recount Text, Students’ Engagement, Students’ Perception

Abstract

This research is entitled "The Analysis of Locution, Illocution, and Perlocution Speech Acts in Mata Najwa Trans 7". The purpose of this study was to analyze the forms of speech acts of locution, illocution, and perlocution found in the Mata Najwa event in Trans 7. This study used the speech act theory proposed by Searle. At the data collection stage, the documentation method was used. The stages of data analysis used the contextual method—the stage of presenting the results of data analysis used formal and informal methods. In the Mata Najwa event, three types of speech acts were found: locution, illocution, and perlocution. Abstract

Several problems of Vocabulary are found in the first science class in SMAN 2 Pamekasan. The students` felt bored to study and difficult to memorize vocabulary are general problem. To solve the problems an action research was conducted by the researcher and the teacher by using clipping as news reader to develop students` vocabulary. Therefore, the problem of this research is about how the clipping implementation as news reader can develop students’ vocabulary. And the aim was to develop students’ vocabulary in English. Based on the result of test in In the preliminary study there was 21% only who passed, in cycle 1 students get achievement 42% (10 students) who passed the minimum score (KKM, 75), it was increased to the second cycle 92 % (22 Students) who passed the target score (KKM, 75) and there 2 students only who were still failed. So the researcher and teacher decided that the implementation of making clipping as news reader technique can develop students’ vocabulary of first science class in SMAN 2 Pamekasan. Keywords:  Making Clipping, News Reader, Vocabulary, Science Class
