Abstract

In the digital era, the use of animated videos is necessary as a learning medium because it presents visual and audio forms without the need for direct observation. This study specifically focuses on improving learning outcomes in science subjects. This classroom action research was conducted in two cycles following Kemmis and Taggart’s model (1988). The research subjects involved were 24 seventh-grade students from SMP NU Miftakhul Jannah because the learning resources available at the school are not yet varied. Data were collected through observation and tests. Quantitative data analysis shows an increase from cycle I to cycle II from 58.24% to 83.2 %. These findings suggest that animated videos can serve as an effective tool for improving student learning outcomes, particularly in technology-integrated education.

Abstract

Antiviral Properties and Potential of Ginger (Zingiber Officinale) and Its Derivatives: A Systematic Review. Ginger has long been valued in traditional medicine for its therapeutic benefits. Recently, its antiviral capabilities have attracted significant interest, highlighting its potential as a natural antiviral agent. This systematic review seeks to thoroughly evaluate the antiviral effects of ginger and its active compounds, providing valuable insights to support future research and clinical applications in natural antiviral therapies. A comprehensive electronic search was undertaken across PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases, employing MeSH terms, Emtree, and relevant synonyms to capture studies on ginger and its antiviral effects. The initial search yielded 531 records, which were de-duplicated and subsequently screened by title and abstract using Rayyan software. Fourteen studies specifically addressing antiviral effects against human pathogens met the inclusion criteria. This systematic review was conducted in strict accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines to ensure rigorous reporting of findings. The majority of included studies were in vitro, revealing anti-viral effects of ginger against various viruses, including Influenza A, Chikungunya, Dengue, hRSV, HSV-2, and SARS-CoV-2 in different cell lines across various concentrations. In addition, Ginger extracts also demonstrated efficacy against Influenza A in both in vivo and in ovo studies, and a randomized controlled trial showcased encouraging antiviral effects targeting SARS-CoV-2. Ginger shows promising antiviral effects in most of the in vitro studies. Translating these findings to in vivo models is imperative for clinical relevance. Further in vivo research is essential before progressing to human studies to ascertain ginger's potential as an effective antiviral agent

Abstract

Effect of Soaking Duration Bulb in 75% Old Coconut Water on Growth and Yield of Bima Brebes Shallot (Allium cepa L.): Plant Height, Leaf Count, Bulb Number, Bulb Diameter, and Bulb Weight. Shallot production in Central Kalimantan in 2021 decreased from the previous year due to the lack of application of growth regulators by farmers in addition to fertilizing. The provision of growth regulators from coconut water is one effort to increase crop production. Coconut water contains minerals and growth hormones that are very much needed by plants. Similar research has been conducted previously with 75% young coconut water, but the administration with old coconut water has not been carried out, so it becomes the basis for the research. This study aims to determine the effect of the duration of soaking shallot bulbs of the Bima Brebes variety in 75% old coconut water on the growth and yield of bulbs. The study was conducted in July-October 2023, located in Menteng Village, Palangka Raya City. This study used a 75% concentration of old coconut water with 5 different treatment levels based on a completely randomized design method with 8 replications. Observations and data collection included plant height, number of leaves, number of bulbs, bulb diameter, and wet weight of bulbs. The data obtained were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Least Significant Difference (LSD) with the help of SPSS software. The results of the ANOVA and LSD tests showed that soaking shallot bulbs in old coconut water had a significant effect on the number of bulbs (p value = 0.02 <0.05) with P2 = 10.13 and bulb weight (p value = 0.02 <0.05) with P2 = 8.10 g. The results of the analysis of plant height, number of leaves, and bulb diameter had no effect. Soaking shallot bulbs in old coconut water for 4 hours was quite optimal in increasing the number of bulbs and wet weight of bulbs compared to other treatments. Soaking the bulbs for 4 hours was able to increase the number of bulbs by 131% and the weight of bulbs by 169% so that these findings can be applied by shallot farmers in increasing bulb yields. The success rate of this study was greatly influenced by factors and constraints such as high humidity and low sunlight intensity, which can affect bulb development

This research is a non-experimental quantitative study using a survey method and descriptive statistical analysis techniques. The population and sample of this study consisted of 90 students, selected from the entire 8th-grade population at SMP Cendekia Sidoarjo. Data collection was carried out using an instrument consisting of a scientific literacy test with 18 questions based on scientific literacy indicators. The students' abilities were classified into achievement categories: very good, good, sufficient, poor, and very poor. The results indicate that the average scientific literacy ability of students falls into the sufficient category, with 75% on indicator 3, 67% on indicator 5, 72% on indicator 4, 64% on indicator 6, and 67% on indicator 9. Meanwhile, the poor and very poor categories are observed in indicator 7 (55%), indicator 1 (36%), indicator 2 (51%), and indicator 8 (53%). The study concludes that low scientific literacy skills can be influenced by various factors, including students' low reading interest, assessment tools that do not focus on developing scientific literacy, and the lack of practice in solving problems with PISA-style characteristics. Additionally, factors such as students' backgrounds, interests, study intensity, and attitudes toward science also contribute to the low scientific literacy achievements of students in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance students’ problem-solving skills in physics, specifically in simple harmonic motion, by implementing a collaborative flipped classroom (FC) model based on discovery learning and the think-pair-share (TPS) method. Using a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group, the research involved 30 high school students in West Java across two classes. The experimental group participated in flipped classroom activities that incorporated TPS, where students worked in pairs to discuss and explain concepts. Pre-class sessions focused on conceptual understanding, while in-class activities emphasized problem-solving. Both groups received an e-learning module developed by the researchers, which included material descriptions, instructional videos, and guided worksheets. The experimental group showed a significantly higher N-gain (0.85) compared to the control group (0.64), with statistical analysis (independent T test, p<0.005) confirming a significant improvement in problem-solving skills.

Abstract

Comparative Efficiency of KOH-Activated Rice Husk Carbon in Adsorbing Pollutants from Laundry and Tofu Wastewater. This study aims to compare the adsorption capacity of rice husk-based activated carbon in overcoming pollution from two types of liquid waste, namely laundry waste and tofu liquid waste. The raw material of rice husk is processed through a carbonization process and chemical activation using potassium hydroxide (KOH), then used in a batch adsorption test. The parameters analyzed include Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), and Total Suspended Solids (TSS). The results show that the adsorbent material produced is able to reduce pollutant levels significantly. COD and TDS are more effectively reduced in laundry waste because the organic content and surfactants are more easily adsorbed, while TSS experiences a greater decrease in tofu waste due to the high suspended solids content. The adsorption process follows the Langmuir isotherm model with the regression values for both laundry and tofu wastewater of  R2>0.9, which indicates the occurrence of monolayer adsorption on the surface. This biosorbent has proven to be economical, environmentally friendly, and has the potential to be applied on a small scale, especially for household industries such as laundry businesses and tofu production. In addition to being relevant for local contexts, this approach can also be adopted globally in areas with high rice husk availability and similar waste management problems.

Abstract

Profiling Self-Regulated Learning and ICT Utilization among Chemistry Education Students in the Digital Era. In the digital era, chemistry education faces dual challenges: fostering students’ self-regulated learning (SRL) while optimizing the use of information and communication technology (ICT). This study aims to profile the levels of SRL and the extent of ICT utilization among chemistry education students, providing insights into how both aspects intersect in supporting academic success. A descriptive quantitative design was employed, involving 26 third-year chemistry education students at Universitas Negeri Makassar. Data were collected through two instruments: an SRL questionnaire covering dimensions of goal setting, planning, time management, learning strategies, self-monitoring, motivation, and self-reflection, and an ICT utilization questionnaire addressing access to digital resources, use of learning applications, participation in online discussions, digital collaboration, and creativity in ICT-supported chemistry learning. Responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic analysis of open-ended items. The results revealed that students’ SRL abilities ranged from moderate to high, with notable strengths in goal setting, planning, and reflection, but persistent challenges in time management and independent study. In contrast, ICT utilization was consistently high across all dimensions, showing strong reliance on digital resources and collaborative tools. A comparative analysis indicated that students rely more on external ICT support than on internal self-regulatory strategies. The study concludes that while ICT integration in learning is robust, strengthening SRL remains essential to balance technology use with sustainable learning autonomy. These findings suggest the need for instructional designs that deliberately embed SRL-enhancing components into ICT-based learning, aligning with the demands of the digital era and the pursuit of quality education

Abstract

Seaweed cultivation (Kappaphycus alvarezii) is the primary source of livelihood for the coastal communities of Tanjung Village, Pamekasan, Madura. This study aims to examine the role of local wisdom in seaweed conservation, including traditional practices that support the coastal ecosystem. The research employed a qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews conducted with 15 key informants, including seaweed farmers, traditional leaders, and village officials. This was followed by a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with 10 participants from seaweed farmer groups to confirm data and collectively discuss conservation and local wisdom issues. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to establish the relationship between traditional practices and the sustainability of seaweed. The study indicates that the local wisdom practiced by the Tanjung Village community, such as sasi rules (a traditional prohibition system) and traditional planting methods, contributes significantly to the conservation of Kappaphycus alvarezii seaweed. This local wisdom not only preserves the availability of seaweed resources but also strengthens social cohesion within the community. The integration of local wisdom with modern technology has the potential to enhance the effectiveness of conservation and seaweed productivity. Recommendations for advancing the cultivation of Kappaphycus alvarezii in Tanjung Village include: Collaboration between modern science and traditional practices is necessary to develop environmentally friendly and productive cultivation techniques, and the development of a community-based conservation model involving traditional leaders, farmers, and village officials is crucial for sustainable seaweed resource management.
