Abstract

Food waste is a significant challenge for culinary MSMEs due to weak raw material management and the absence of standardized operational procedures. This community service initiative aims to strengthen raw material management capacity to prevent overstock in the MSME pilot project, Jiji Kopitiam. The method consists of three stages: first, system analysis and intervention planning, which include problem identification and intervention design; second, program implementation; and third, the development of a sustainability plan. Root-cause analysis was conducted using a Fishbone diagram, while behavioral identification referred to the COM-B model to determine the behavioral change requirements. Intervention planning was developed using the Theory of Change and behavioural change identification to ensure that all activities followed a logical pathway toward the expected outcomes. The interventions included educational workshops, storage-layout simulations, the development of simplified SOPs, the strengthening of stock recording practices, and public educational campaigns. The results of the mentoring process indicate an improved understanding of raw material management among MSMEs, the adoption of labeling and reorganized storage practices, and increased awareness of systematic stock recording. The formulation of a sustainability plan further enhanced the likelihood of maintaining these improved practices. Overall, this mentoring program successfully fostered initial behavioral changes relevant to reducing food waste in culinary MSMEs.

Abstract

High school adolescents are a vulnerable group to exposure to addictive substances due to social and academic pressures, thus requiring literacy-based preventive interventions. This community service program aimed to strengthen students’ literacy regarding the hazards of addictive substances at SMA Negeri 2 Banjarbaru through a chemical literacy-based approach, delivered using educational infographics and participatory learning activities. The program was implemented in a single integrated session consisting of a pre-test, delivery of materials using infographic media accompanied by interactive mini quizzes via Quizizz, a question-and-answer session, and a post-test. A total of 36 students participated in the activity, comprising 12 representatives from each grade level (grades X, XI, and XII). Evaluation results showed an improvement in students’ understanding of addictive substances, as indicated by an increase in the average pre-test score of 66.4 (median 70.0 with score ranged from 30.0 to 100.0) to an average post-test score of 87.5 (median 90.0 with score ranged from 60.0 to 100.0), representing an increase of 21.1 points (31.8%). In addition to quantitative evaluation, brief non-formal interviews with students conducted during and after the activity indicated early signs of changes in students perspectives, particularly in their awareness of adopting healthier and non-addictive coping mechanisms when dealing with academic stress. These findings suggest that infographic-based educational approaches combined with interactive activities are effective in enhancing literacy on the hazards of addictive substances as a foundation for primary prevention among adolescents. To support program sustainability, the educational materials were provided to the school in both printed and digital formats for use in guidance and counseling services as well as school health programs.

Abstract

This Community Service (Abdimas) program aims to enhance project management capabilities at PT Tritech Consult Indonesia through training and implementation of a Project Management Information System (PMIS) based on spreadsheets. As an engineering consulting company, PT Tritech Consult Indonesia manages various complex projects involving multiple resources and cross-functional coordination. However, project management has largely been conducted manually using conventional, non-integrated applications, resulting in limitations in data accuracy, information transparency, and the effectiveness of project monitoring and controlling processes. The solution offered in this program is training and mentoring on the implementation of a spreadsheet-based PMIS that is practical and easy to adopt. The PMIS is designed to support project scheduling, resource allocation, progress reporting, and structured, data-driven project monitoring. This approach is expected to improve operational efficiency, reduce the risk of project delays, and support faster and more accurate decision-making. The program was implemented through observation and interviews to identify partner needs, followed by the introduction of a PMIS dashboard and hands-on training for project management staff at PT Tritech Consult Indonesia. The training session was conducted on January 8, 2026, and received positive responses from participants. The program concluded with the formal handover of the PMIS dashboard as a commitment to the sustainability of system implementation. Overall, this community service activity had a positive impact on improving the effectiveness of the partner’s project management practices and has the potential to be replicated in similar consulting companies. This program is aligned with the Community Service Roadmap of the Enterprise and Industrial Management Systems (EIMS) Knowledge Group, particularly in the Digital Solution System focus area.

Abstract

This community service program aims to address the pedagogical barriers faced by Madrasah Aliyah (MA) English teachers in DIY when implementing Deep Learning. The primary issue was the teachers' conceptual confusion and lack of operational guidance in designing meaningful learning experiences. The implementation method spanned ten weeks through collaboration with the DIY MA English Teacher Forum (MGMP), involving needs analysis, practical module development based on Tomlinson’s principles, and a series of workshops on classroom management, material development, assessment, and artificial intelligence (AI) integration. Results demonstrated a significant transformation in teacher capacity, shifting from rote-based instruction to more contextual and student-centered instructional designs. Program evaluation through post-tests and reflective discussions confirmed that participants successfully internalized the Deep Learning principles, i.e., mindful, meaningful, and joyful within their teaching instruments. The program's implication is significant, providing practical modules (print and digital) and a digital repository of teaching kits as sustainable community assets. In conclusion, this MGMP-based community empowerment effectively altered teachers' mindsets and professional practices. This model holds strategic implications for replication in other subjects within the madrasah environment, creating a systemic impact on improving education quality towards a more humanistic and profound approach.

Abstract

This community service aims to describe efforts to strengthen Islamic understanding among Muslim converts (muallaf) in remote areas of Brunei Darussalam through international collaboration between KKN students from UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya and Pusat Dakwah Islamiah (PDI) Brunei Darussalam. Muallaf communities in long houses face significant limitations in their understanding and practice of Islam due to geographical isolation, minimal access to Islamic education, and lack of continuous post-conversion mentoring. The implementation method uses an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach with learning by doing and participatory techniques. Data collection was conducted through direct observation, activity documentation, and reflective field notes during the mentoring process. Activities were carried out in Kampung Semabat-Temburong, Kampung Sungai Mao-Belait, and Kampung Bebuloh-Muara through direct visits, guidance on basic worship practices (ablution, prayer, daily supplications), interactive religious dialogue, and provision of social assistance. Results showed that before the activity, muallaf had limited Islamic understanding in worship practices and mastery of prayer recitations. After intensive mentoring, significant improvements occurred with participation rates reaching 85% and more than 80% of participants able to perform ablution and prayer independently, better understand Islamic teachings, and develop stronger religious spirit. Social impacts include the formation of regular religious gatherings, increased self-confidence among muallaf, and harmonization of interfaith relations. This program confirms the important role of KKN International students and PDI in accompanying and strengthening the spirituality of muallaf to be more steadfast in practicing Islamic teachings in daily life.

Abstract

Hypertension control in primary care remains a public health challenge in Indonesia. Among pre-elderly and older adults, hypertension prevalence is higher, increasing the risk of serious cardiovascular complications. Sustained strengthening is required for comprehensive initiatives that engage both health professionals and community health workers (cadres). This community service program aimed to enhance the roles of patients, elderly posyandu cadres, and the puskesmas staff in hypertension management in  Pandak Village, Bantul Regency. The methods and approaches included case mapping, community-based screening, cadre training, provision of tensimeters, patient/family education, and training for puskesmas health workers. Data from the puskesmas indicated that 355 Pandak residents had hypertension. Community screening targeting pre-elderly and older adults was attended by 186 residents, of whom 154 were confirmed to have hypertension. Cadre training involved 12 elderly posyandu cadres, focusing on how to conduct elderly screening (anthropometry and blood pressure check) and interpret hypertension status. Before the training, only two cadres were able to measure blood pressure using tensimeter, whereas after the training all attending cadres were able to perform measurements independently. The program also provided seven sets of tensimeters to improve access to blood pressure monitoring in Pandak Village. Training for puskesmas health workers on “Current Hypertension Therapy and Its Implementation in Primary Care” was attended by 21 participants (doctors, nurses, and midwives). Knowledge increased, with the mean pre-test score rising from 61.0 to 83.8 in the post-test. Overall, the program enhanced the capacity of cadres and puskesmas staff and improved access to hypertension screening and monitoring.

Abstract

Aquaculture is an important sector that plays a role in supporting food security while improving the economy of rural communities. This activity is an easy alternative because it can utilize limited land and simple media, such as ponds. Bantul Regency is one of the areas in the Special Region of Yogyakarta that has aquaculture activities with promising prospects. Catfish is the favorite fish of the community in terms of consumption, so it is not surprising that the production volume of catfish is quite high on a regional scale. This community service activity aims to encourage and enhance community empowerment in managing vacant land potential so that the community can have additional income through catfish farming using tarpaulin ponds in the Griya Cendekia UII Sedayu Bantul assisted village located in Padukuhan Kaliberot. The results of catfish farming are used as a marketing tool that can improve community welfare and create new jobs. The community service methods implemented include the identification of problems and potential partners; the construction of catfish ponds; training in catfish pond cultivation; program monitoring; and evaluation and sustainability strategies. The results of community service activities show that these activities improve the community's ability to manage catfish productively and optimize marketing management. These activities conclude that catfish farming not only supports the environmental ecosystem but also creates new economic opportunities for the community.
