Abstract

Solar-Powered Street Lighting (PJUTS) serves as a strategic solution to enhance safety, comfort, and community activities, particularly in rural areas with limited access to the national electricity grid. This study, conducted in Masahan Hamlet, Trirenggo Village, Bantul, aims to design an efficient, autonomous, and environmentally friendly PJUTS system. The methodology combines empirical field surveys (road conditions, lighting needs, light intensity, and pole spacing) with quantitative calculations of energy demand, solar panel capacity, battery storage, and light efficacy. The results indicate that the total energy demand of 720 Wh can be supplied by a 185 Wp solar panel system, where one 75 Wp module generates 225 Wh per day. Field implementation successfully installed three solar streetlights using LED lamps with 150 lumen/Watt efficiency, significantly improving community safety during nighttime. This study concludes that PJUTS can be effectively applied as a renewable energy-based lighting model for rural areas, while also supporting sustainability programs and reducing carbon emissions

Abstract

Currently, the development of local potential based on natural product and materials requires concrete steps to increase added value, stimulate investment and find new markets at home and abroad. One of the natural material commodities that has great potential is essential oil which is included in the plantation agribusiness sub-sector. So far, the essential oil industry has only maintain at the home industry and is still feeling the way in place. The study and development of techniques and knowledge about the benefits and applications of essential oils by involving research institutions both in the government and in universities has not been clearly known by most of the public. Essential oils produced by the Indonesian people are not yet popular even though in their daily lives the community is very close and even involved in the use of essential oil ingredients. Innovation and creation of essential oil derivative products involving various partners are new development challenges that must be faced by research institutions owned by universities and government-owned in order to jointly increase the nation's sustainable competitiveness. Center of Essential Oil Studies (CEOS UII) supports joint efforts between the government and the business sector even at the UMKM level so that technology dissemination takes place intensively and evenly, including the use of natural resources that are being innovatively developed and the diversification of the utilization of derivative and formulative products. Agribusiness and essential oil agroindustry business actors need to be used as partners so that the development of essential oil innovation and utility can be broad and even. Superior essential oil products need to be developed in suitable areas, using quality plant materials, and applying good cultivation methods to increase productivity and quality as well as variety of plant types. This activity will make one region produce superior and mainstay products that are highly competitive and give birth to partnerships that support each other and provide solutions to local and regional problems as quickly as possible. Indonesia's agro-industry and essential oil agribusiness are faced with two main problems, namely low quality and fluctuating prices. One of the solutions is an extensification and intensification program in the commodity and non-commodity sectors of essential oils. The essential crop extensification program needs to consider market absorption and prioritize the regional program of a region's mainstay commodity. The intensification program is prioritized to increase the productivity and quality of essential oil raw materials. This is intended so as not to pose a risk of loss for essential oil farmers.

Abstract

Inappropriate self-medication limited public understanding of the DAGUSIBU (Dapatkan, Gunakan, Simpan, dan Buang) concept, and the widespread use of harmful cosmetic products remain major challenges in improving community health. This community service activity aimed to increase the knowledge of residents in Dusun Kepuhsari RW 38 regarding rational self-medication, proper application of the DAGUSIBU principle (Get, Use, Store, and Dispose of Medicine Correctly), and the risks associated with hazardous cosmetic ingredients. The activity was carried out through an educational and participatory approach consisting of a pretest, leaflet distribution, direct delivery of material by resource persons, interactive Q&A sessions, distribution of door prizes, and a posttest. The results showed an overall increase in participants' understanding across all three topics. Knowledge of self-medication increased by 1.2 times, while understanding of DAGUSIBU improved by 1.44 times. Education on harmful cosmetics also led to a significant improvement in participants' awareness of product legality, identification of dangerous substances, and associated health risks. Through this educational program, the community is expected to become more informed and responsible in using both medicines and cosmetics safely and wisely.

Abstract

Unsold vegetable waste from agricultural products generally rots and ends up in landfills, increasing waste volume and creating environmental problems. Utilizing vegetable waste as a raw material for bioethanol is a potential alternative, considering that bioethanol is a renewable energy source that can be produced through a biomass fermentation process. This study designed a 15 liter bioethanol production unit utilizing various types of vegetable waste, such as potatoes, pineapples, carrots, mustard greens, and cabbage. The process unit consists of pre-treatment equipment (a pre-cooking tank, a crusher, and a pressure tank), a fermenter equipped with two 30 cm diameter paddle-type manual stirrers, and a stainless steel distillation unit equipped with a heater and cooling tank. The fermentation process lasts for 48–72 hours and produces bioethanol with a concentration of 45%. This program is expected to provide dual benefits: as a solution for vegetable waste management to reduce environmental impacts and as a source of additional income for the community through the utilization of the bioethanol produced.

Abstract

The community of RW 02 Sungai Miai Village, North Banjarmasin, is an active community in implementing various programs to anticipate climate change, as evidenced by the success of achieving the Climate Village category “Lestari”. The surrounding community has used vacant land to plant various kinds of vegetables and cultivate fish for consumption in round ponds. The harvest returns to the community, one of which is to provide additional nutrition for toddlers during Posyandu activities held every month. Along with the development of development, land for fish cultivation or gardening is increasingly limited, while the need for vegetable and animal proteins continues to grow. This is the reason aquaponics was chosen because this method was developed to maximize limited land use, to produce fish and plant products at once, especially in urban areas or densely populated settlements such as in RW02 Sungai Miai Village. The purpose of this activity is to provide education and training about budikdamber and aquaponic system vegetables by utilizing limited land for the fulfillment of family nutrition. The dissemination of activities was delivered by methods of theoretical explanation, demonstration, training and intensive assistance during the activity.  The results obtained showed that the partner group was very enthusiastic in receiving the knowledge and skills conveyed, there was an increase in knowledge from a score of 1.59 to 4.35 compared to before the counseling or an increase of 173.58% and an increase in skills from a score of 1.36 to 3.35 or an increase of 146.32%. These results indicate that counseling and training materials have been delivered effectively and successfully absorbed by the community. Overall, the training was very successful in improving participants' practical skills in implementing and managing aquaculture and aquaponics systems.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the ability to read the Qur'an in accordance with the rules of tajwid and prepare prospective elderly imams at the Darussalam Mosque, Griya Perwita Wisata Housing Complex, Ngaglik District, Sleman Regency, to lead prayers. The high participation of elderly congregants has not been matched by adequate Quran reading skills due to differences in religious education backgrounds, declining cognitive abilities, and the absence of elderly-friendly tahsin programs. The implementation method consists of three stages, namely identification and initial assessment of Quran reading ability with categories of very low, low, and moderate, structured tahsin training through small halaqah, talaqqi, and musyafahah methods, as well as evaluation and follow-up assistance through practice as prayer leaders. This program was supported by competent resource persons such as Ust Hariono and Ust Slamet as regular speakers at the Darussalam Mosque. The informants and note-takers for this activity were Willi Ashadi and Khairul Munzilin, lecturers in the International Relations study program at UII, together with community service students named Mahadir. The results of the activity show that 90% of participants experienced an increase in their ability to read the Qur'an and showed significant progress in tahsin learning, as well as the formation of a sustainable tahsin halaqah group. Overall, the tahsin training and prayer leader coaching program for the elderly was effective and contributed to the social and religious empowerment of the elderly congregation based in the mosque community.

Abstract

Waste management remains a major challenge in various settings, including schools. SMP Muhammadiyah 4 Yogyakarta initiated the Zero Waste Program to foster a sustainable, environmentally friendly culture. This program aims to reduce waste generation, raise student awareness, and establish an integrated waste management system. The program began with a situational analysis to identify the sources and types of waste within the school. Based on these findings, a Zero Waste Team consisting of teachers, students, and external partners—was formed to design and implement the program. The team developed educational modules, provided segregated waste bins, and facilitated workshops and training on the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) through practical learning activities, such as creating wall magazines from waste materials and reducing the use of single-use products. The program was further strengthened by concrete actions supported by digital campaigns and active student participation as change agents. As part of its sustainability strategy, the program also encouraged intergenerational collaboration by involving students, teachers, and parents. This approach ensured the transfer of knowledge and the long-term continuity of an environmentally conscious culture within the school. Regular monitoring and evaluation were conducted to assess the program’s effectiveness. The results demonstrated the establishment of a sustainable waste management system, a reduction in waste volume, and increased environmental awareness. This study concludes that schools can serve as environmentally friendly models that are replicable in other educational institutions.

Abstract

Tanjung Seloka Village in Kotabaru Regency has significant coastal resource potential, particularly in the aquaculture sector, with its superior commodity, soft-shelled crab, which has high economic value and stable market demand both domestically and internationally. This Community Service activity aims to improve the community's knowledge and skills in applying Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) technology to soft-shelled crab cultivation. The results of the activity indicate an increase in community understanding of the RAS system concept, the function of tools and materials, the benefits of implementing the technology, and the importance of water quality management in the cultivation process. In addition, the community's technical skills have also developed, particularly in preparing cultivation facilities, operating the RAS system, and carrying out maintenance during the soft-shelled crab cultivation process. This capacity increase indicates that RAS technology can be understood and implemented by the community as an alternative, more efficient and environmentally friendly cultivation innovation. The implication of this activity is the opening of opportunities for developing a sustainable technology-based soft-shelled crab cultivation business, which has the potential to increase productivity, expand business opportunities, and support the improvement of the welfare of the coastal community of Tanjung Seloka Village.
