Abstract

Cadres of PKK are the main drivers of community and posyandu (integrated health post) activities. Adequate knowledge and skills can improve the overall health status of the community, particularly in addressing degenerative diseases and obesity. These conditions often arise due to poor eating habits and limited understanding of high-fat foods. This study aimed to enhance knowledge regarding the identification of fatty foods and to provide training in anthropometric measurements. The target participants were 17 posyandu cadres from Padukuhan Potorono, Banguntapan, Bantul. The program was conducted in two stages: the first involved education on high-fat foods, and the second focused on anthropometric training. During the training, cadres practiced anthropometric measurements on each other and calculated Body Mass Index (BMI). In the first stage, knowledge was assessed using pre- and post-test questionnaires, while the training performance was evaluated using a checklist with a score range of 10–100. Data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed a 35% increase in knowledge scores, excellent skill performance with an average score of 95, and that 76% of cadres had abnormal BMI. This study demonstrates that education and training activities effectively improve cadres’ knowledge and skills, although a considerable proportion of cadres are also at risk of obesity

Abstract

The Dayak Temaga community in Sarawak, Malaysia, maintains a strong tradition of togetherness in supporting religious activities through the practices of mutual cooperation, resource sharing, and communal dining. However, social changes resulting from modernization, along with increasing economic pressures, have the potential to reduce community participation in preserving these traditions. This community service program aims to strengthen religious activities through community empowerment based on the principles of the social economy, togetherness, and local wisdom. The program was implemented through mentoring religious activities, providing basic Islamic education, reinforcing the values of mutual cooperation, and facilitating communal dining as a means of strengthening the community's social and spiritual relationships. The implementation of the program involved several stages, including assessing community needs through observation, coordinating with religious and community leaders, conducting participatory program activities, and evaluating community involvement throughout the implementation process. The results demonstrate increased community participation in various religious activities, the growth of collective awareness to preserve the traditions of sharing and mutual cooperation, and stronger collaboration among community members, religious leaders, and university students in supporting the sustainability of religious activities. The program also succeeded in strengthening social relationships, fostering the spirit of togetherness, and promoting the internalization of religious values through social economy practices based on community participation. Therefore, community empowerment through the strengthening of religious activities based on the social economy represents a relevant approach to supporting the sustainability of religious life among the Dayak Temaga community and may serve as a model for community service programs grounded in local wisdom.

Abstract

This community service study aims to analyze how halal certification assistance facilitates micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in improving their readiness to obtain halal certification while supporting the development of a village-based halal ecosystem. The program was implemented through workshops and technical assistance involving nine MSMEs in Tugu Village, Purwoasri District, Kediri Regency. Program evaluation employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data credibility was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The initial assessment revealed that most participants had limited understanding of halal certification requirements and lacked administrative readiness to submit certification applications. During the assistance process, the main challenges included limited digital literacy, inadequate knowledge of supporting documents, and difficulties in operating the SIHALAL system. Intensive mentoring enabled participants to understand the certification procedure, complete the required documents, and independently follow the halal certification process. The collaboration among the village government, Halal Center, halal facilitators, and MSMEs also emerged as an initial foundation for establishing a village-based halal ecosystem. Halal certification assistance not only improves MSMEs' readiness to obtain halal certification but also strengthens collaboration among local stakeholders, providing an important foundation for developing a sustainable village-based halal ecosystem.

Abstract

Chemistry is often considered difficult by high school students because many of its concepts are abstract, technical, and require the retention of factual information. One fundamental topic that students need to master is the periodic table, as it supports their understanding of element symbols, element groups, periodic trends, and other chemistry concepts. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ understanding of the periodic table through mnemonic and visualization approaches. The activity was conducted at SMAN 2 Banjarbaru and involved 36 students from class X-6. The program consisted of interactive training on the Periodic System of Elements, a Chemical Elements BINGO game, and a short socialization session about the Chemistry Department. Students’ learning outcomes were evaluated using pre- and post-tests, while their responses to the activity were collected through a questionnaire. The average percentage of correct answers increased from 82.22% in the pre-test to 93.33% in the post-test, with an overall normalized gain (g) of 0.625, which falls within the medium category. A paired-samples t-test showed that the increase was statistically significant, t(35) = 2.76, p = 0.009, with a moderate effect size (Cohen’s dz = 0.46). Students also reported positive responses to the mnemonic method, visual learning media, and interactive learning process. These findings indicate that mnemonic and visualization approaches have the potential to support more engaging and interactive learning of the periodic table.

Abstract

The development of applied science literacy is an important competency that should be taught to high school students to prepare them to face challenges in today's modern era. Applied science literacy in the context of probiotic beverage fermentation can be linked to chemistry, biology, and food technology to produce safe, high-quality products. This competency helps students develop critical thinking and scientific understanding relevant to their daily needs. In addition to science literacy, mastery of entrepreneurial skills enables students to see business opportunities based on applied science products such as probiotic drinks, which are trending among teenagers. The combination of the two will result in a holistic learning model that encourages students to become a creative, innovative, adaptive, and competitive generation. This community service method takes the form of material workshops, Fermentation practicals, and evaluations. The results of this training programme were very well received by the students of Muhammadiah 2 Genteng High School, who listened enthusiastically to the material presented, practised making kefir probiotic drinks, and processed kefir into contemporary products. Overall, this programme was successful and provided benefits in the application of applied science, namely in the use of fermentation for students. The learning outcomes of this training were very beneficial for the students, as evidenced by the survey results showing that 80% had insufficient knowledge of probiotic beverage fermentation methods. After being given the material, 90% of the students' knowledge increased related to probiotic beverage fermentation methods. These results show excellent progress that applied science literacy in education is very important.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) contribute significantly to state revenue. In addition to being the driving force of the Indonesian economy, MSMEs are also the most effective absorbers of labor, absorbing 96% of the national workforce. In Ngestiharjo Village, Kasihan District, Bantul, MSMEs are members of 24 Women's Farmer Groups (KWT). However, many entrepreneurs still lack business permits, such as a Business Identification Number (NIB) and a P-IRT Certificate. These entrepreneurs are unaware of the many benefits of having a business permit. This community service program aims to educate entrepreneurs and provide assistance in applying for NIB and P-IRT certificates. Possessing NIB and P-IRT permits is intended to increase their competitiveness and further expand their businesses. The methods used in this community service program include socialization of benefits, practice and assistance in applying for business legality permits. The training participants consisted of 24 representatives of MSMEs from the Women's Farmers Group in Ngestiharjo Village, Kasihan District, Bantul Regency. The expected outcome of this program is that these entrepreneurs will obtain legal business licenses, enabling them to expand their businesses.

Abstract

Kampuang Galapuang faces a dual, interlocking problem in the post-Covid-19 period: declining active engagement of elementary school students in learning and the fading internalization of practical religious traditions among the younger generation. This community engagement program positions the tungku tigo sajarangan structure (traditional leaders, religious scholars, and intellectuals) as an equal partner within a Participatory Action Research (PAR) framework carried out through four cycles, namely to research, to plan, to take action, and to evaluate, from the problem-mapping stage through outcome evaluation. This formal integration of customary and religious authority into the intervention design is what distinguishes the model from conventional education-focused community programs. Results show an increase in student learning participation from 48% to 73%, basic literacy achievement from 42% to 65%, and basic numeracy achievement from 39% to 61%, alongside improved teacher pedagogical competence through periodic innovative learning workshops. Most of these final outcomes nonetheless fell short of the program’s predetermined targets (participation ≥75%, literacy ≥70%, numeracy ≥68%), representing partial achievement that still calls for continued mentoring. In the religious domain, optimizing surau learning hours and the participatory dawn mentoring (didikan subuh) program raised children’s attendance from 45% to 78%, while strengthening the involvement of traditional and religious leaders in transmitting Minangkabau local wisdom to younger generations. These findings suggest that a bottom-up, custom-institution-based PAR approach contributes to community ownership of change, though this claim cannot yet be statistically compared against a top-down approach in the absence of a comparison group. The program recommends sustained village budget support so that gains in basic education and religious tradition revitalization continue toward the set targets and become an institutional foundation at the village level.

Abstract

The low level of financial literacy remains a primary barrier for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This condition impedes the achievement of business sustainability and access to formal financing. Consequently, this community service initiative aims to enhance the managerial capabilities of MSME practitioners. The primary focus lies in providing training on basic financial recording and management. An educative-participatory approach was implemented for this intervention. The implementation methods encompassed interactive lectures, case-based learning, and hands-on practice. The program engaged 11 female MSME entrepreneurs from the Srikandi Preneur Program, which is a collaborative effort involving Rumah Zakat, MPM Company, and PT DSS. The effectiveness of the program was quantitatively evaluated using pre-test and post-test instruments. Data analysis demonstrated a substantial improvement in financial literacy. The participants' average comprehension score increased by 43.64%, rising from 2.45 to 4.64. The distribution of comprehension levels also indicated a positive shift. The percentage of participants in the low category dropped significantly from 63.64% to 0%. Concurrently, the proportion of participants in the high category surged to 72.73%. The most significant improvement in material mastery was recorded in two specific indicators. First, the ability to distinguish between gross income and net profit. Second, a comprehensive understanding of the functions of a daily cash book. Empirically, the case-based basic financial training proved to be highly effective. This method successfully bridged the participants' knowledge gap regarding financial management. This initiative offers a credible empowerment model that can be replicated, with the ultimate objective of accelerating the professionalism and business resilience of MSMEs in the future.
