Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of role-playing as an active learning strategy in enhancing students’ critical thinking and conceptual understanding in economics education at Madrasah Tsanawiyah. Addressing the paucity of evidence on interactive pedagogies in faith-based secondary schools, the research contrasts role-play with conventional lecture-based approaches that often fail to foster higher-order reasoning. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group was employed, involving two intact classes (N = 70) assigned to either a role-play intervention or traditional instruction. Data were collected using validated instruments assessing four dimensions of critical thinking and standardized tests of conceptual understanding. ANCOVA results demonstrated significant improvements in the experimental group, with adjusted mean differences of 5.27 points for critical thinking and 10.50 points for conceptual understanding (p < .001), supported by large effect sizes. These outcomes suggest that role-playing creates experiential learning contexts that stimulate analytical reasoning, perspective-taking, and reflective judgment, thereby promoting deeper and more transferable learning. The findings not only reinforce existing evidence on the value of active learning but also underscore the unique potential of role-playing to cultivate 21st-century competencies in religious educational contexts. The study concludes that role-playing represents a robust pedagogical approach for advancing cognitive development in secondary economics, while further research is recommended to explore its long-term and cross-disciplinary applicability

Abstract

This study examines how the city of Salatiga was constructed and represented as a vacantie oord or colonial resort town by the Dutch East Indies government in the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Using a historical qualitative approach, this paper seeks to reconstruct Salatiga's strategic role within the network of colonial cities in Central Java by examining aspects of urban planning, administrative regulations, and the colonial narratives that emerged during that period. Primary sources used include official colonial documents such as Staatsblad van Nederlandsch-Indië No. 266 of 1917, city map archives, colonial photographs, and tourist brochures published by the Toeristenverkeer institution. This research also utilizes secondary literature on colonial urban history and tropical spatial studies. The results of the study show that Salatiga was chosen as a resort town because of its strategic location on the slopes of Mount Merbabu, its cool climate, clean air, and the presence of natural water sources. The colonial government actively developed the urban layout of Salatiga through the construction of villas, hotels, parks, and recreational facilities that supported the city's image as a place of recovery and relaxation for the European elite. This study demonstrates that the image of a vacantie oord not only reflected colonial recreational needs but also served as an instrument of power manifested through the physical forms of the city.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low motivation and learning outcomes of students in the Local History course, which has so far been dominated by conventional methods such as lectures and rote memorization, making the learning process monotonous and less engaging. To address this issue, the study aims to develop a gamification-based learning medium by utilizing Quiziz and Wayground applications as an innovative strategy to enhance the effectiveness, interactivity, and motivation of students in learning history. The research method employed was Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The analysis phase focused on identifying students’ needs and the shortcomings of conventional learning methods, while the design phase formulated appropriate gamification elements for local history content. The development process produced a prototype that was validated by media and content experts, with average scores of 4.20 and 3.95, respectively, categorized as good. The implementation stage was carried out through a small-scale trial with 10 students and a large-scale trial with 30 students, resulting in positive responses with average scores of 4.05 for the small group and 4.18 for the large group. Furthermore, the effectiveness test was conducted by involving 30 students in the experimental class and 30 students in the control class. The results showed a significant difference between the two groups, where the experimental class achieved an average score of 82.00, while the control class achieved only 74.20, with an independent t-test result of p = 0.000 < 0.025, indicating that gamification-based mobile learning is effective in improving students’ learning outcomes. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of gamification with Local History content through mobile applications that allow students to access learning materials anytime and anywhere, thus making the learning of history not only more enjoyable but also strengthening their understanding of local values and nationalism.

Abstract

Cognitive processes in comprehension include interpreting, exemplifying, classifying, summarizing, concluding, comparing, and explaining. These form comprehensive cognitive abilities. This part of comprehension develops from the basic ability to transform information to the higher-level ability to analyze cause-and-effect relationships. Mastery of this entire section enables students to process information deeply and develop meaningful understanding. History learning plays an important role in raising collective awareness, creating a sense of belonging, and social solidarity. History lessons teach about the origins, development, and roles of past societies, which have the wisdom to shape students' intelligence, attitudes, and personalities. History learning still uses conventional methods such as lectures, group discussions, and simple media. More interesting and interactive learning variations are needed to train students' understanding of history through Genially website-based interactive learning media. The main objectives of developing this media are to improve students' understanding and interest in history, to provide an alternative to conventional teaching methods, and to train the digital and visual literacy skills of students at SMAN 16 Pekanbaru. The results of expert validation for the Genially website-based interactive learning media obtained a percentage of 98% from subject matter experts, 94% from media experts, and 92.3% from test students' assessments.

Abstract

MSMEs play a crucial role in supporting local economic growth, yet their ability to increase business performance is often constrained by limited resources and marketing strategies. This study aims to identify critical factors influencing MSME growth, measured through revenue increase, by analyzing transaction and marketing-related variables. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to MSME owners and analyzed using Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression methods. The independent variables include transaction frequency, number of customers, promotion frequency, promotion budget, and perceived impact of social media usage. The results show that transaction frequency (r = 0.50271), number of customers (r = 0.46930), promotion frequency (r = 0.40632), and perceived impact of social media (r = 0.56519) have a moderate positive correlation with revenue growth, while promotion budget (r = -0.00196) has no significant correlation. Multiple regression analysis indicates that the model explains 51.67% of revenue growth variation (R² = 0.5167). Partially, transaction frequency, promotion frequency, and perceived social media impact significantly affect revenue growth, whereas customer number and promotion budget do not.

Abstract

This study examines the evaluation of the Online Customer Assistant (OCA) chatbot as a customer complaint service at PT Telkom Indonesia, particularly for IndiHome users at Plasa Witel Sumbar, Padang. The implementation of this digital service was intended to enhance accessibility, reduce customer queues, and streamline complaint handling. However, several challenges remain, including the chatbot’s limited ability to resolve complex technical issues, reliance on standardized responses, and the continued need for manual follow-up by technicians or Telkomsel Grapari partners. This research aims to assess the effectiveness of OCA using William N. Dunn’s six indicators of policy evaluation: effectiveness, efficiency, adequacy, equity, responsiveness, and appropriateness. A qualitative descriptive approach was applied, with data collected through observation, interviews with customers, Telkom staff, the Plasa Witel manager, and Grapari technicians, as well as document analysis. Informants were selected using purposive sampling, while data validity was tested through source triangulation and analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldana’s (2014) model. The findings reveal that the OCA chatbot contributes positively to digital service transformation by improving cost efficiency, providing equal access, and filtering customer data before escalation. Nevertheless, its effectiveness is limited, as most technical complaints still require human intervention. The novelty of this study lies in its comprehensive evaluation of chatbot services in the context of public digital service transformation, highlighting the importance of integrating automated systems with human support. Continuous improvements in accuracy, consistency of standard operating procedures, and stronger integration with technical teams are necessary to optimize OCA’s role as a reliable, efficient, and inclusive complaint-handling service.

Abstract

This paper critically examines carbon offset markets through a postcolonialism lens, ‎arguing that these mechanisms embody a form of climate colonialism. Although often ‎presented as pragmatic solutions to global climate change, carbon offsets tend to reproduce ‎entrenched patterns of exploitation and inequality. Specifically, carbon offsets enable the ‎Global North to continue emitting greenhouse gases while outsourcing environmental ‎responsibility to the Global South, which effectively becomes a carbon sink. Drawing on ‎qualitative analysis on policy discourses, real-world case studies, and postcolonial theory, ‎this research examines how carbon markets facilitate land dispossession, resource ‎extraction, and the accumulation of ecological debt. These processes echo historical colonial ‎structures of domination and dependency. The paper foregrounds critical perspectives from ‎the Global South, highlighting resistance to carbon offset practices and emphasizing the ‎need for decolonial approaches to climate governance. Ultimately, it challenges dominant ‎‎“green economy” narratives and advocates for climate justice rooted in equity, historical ‎accountability, and non-market-based alternatives.‎

Abstract

This community service program revitalizes the Lungun Indah riverside attraction in Banyuwangi through a digital-tourism, community-based approach. The intervention integrates (i) physical enhancement—area cleaning, repainting, layout reorganization, and ornamental planting; (ii) safety enablement—provision of life jackets and an inflatable boat to support family-friendly river activities; and (iii) digital capacity building—creation of an official Instagram account, development of a tourism website with a virtual tour, and hands-on training for video promotion and website management involving Digital Business students. Methods followed sequential phases: problem analysis with local stakeholders (Bumdes and village officials), collaborative site improvement, digital content and platform development, training, and evaluation via a short Likert survey administered to Bumdes managers and village officers. Results indicate visible upgrades in cleanliness and aesthetics, improved visitor safety readiness, and stronger online visibility alongside emerging skills for independent content production and website upkeep. Survey feedback shows high acceptance and perceived relevance of the interventions, supporting the feasibility of sustained, locally managed promotion and operations. The program demonstrates that coupling basic physical readiness with targeted digital marketing and community capacity can effectively enhance destination appeal, strengthen governance at village level, and provide a scalable model for rural tourism revitalization.

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital technology has transformed consumer behavior, especially in online fashion shopping. This study examines the effect of organic sales strategies on consumer loyalty toward PT Cikal Industries Indonesia on the TikTok platform. Organic strategies utilize TikTok’s algorithm to reach audiences naturally without paid advertising. Using a quantitative survey of 100 TikTok consumers, the study analyzes social media marketing, content marketing, influencers, brand trust, and customer satisfaction as independent variables, with consumer loyalty as the dependent variable. Data were processed using multiple linear regression via SPSS. Results show that social media marketing, content marketing, and brand trust significantly influence consumer loyalty, while influencers and customer satisfaction have positive but less significant individual effects. Collectively, all variables significantly affect consumer loyalty. The findings highlight that organic sales strategies through TikTok effectively strengthen brand-consumer relationships and foster long-term loyalty in the fashion industry.
