Abstract

This research focuses on educating coastal children in Teluk Bakau, Bintan Regency, about the importance of seagrass ecosystems and the threats they face. The seagrass ecosystem has an important role in maintaining the balance of marine ecosystems, including as a habitat for various marine species and supporting the global carbon cycle. However, seagrass meadows are threatened by uncontrolled human activities, pollution, and climate change. Through descriptive methods and a community service approach, this research succeeded in increasing the knowledge of coastal children, as evidenced by the significant increase in participants' post-test scores after participating in the educational program. The majority of participants experienced an increase in knowledge, with the average score increasing from 5.1 on the pre-test to 7.45 on the post-test. These results show the effectiveness of the program in increasing environmental awareness among coastal children. However, there was variation in the level of knowledge improvement among participants, indicating the need for more adaptive and interactive learning methods. The success of this program emphasizes the importance of environmental education from an early age in forming a generation that cares and plays an active role in ecosystem conservation, especially seagrass beds in the coastal area of Teluk Bakau.

Abstract

The Community Service (CS) project was implemented in Sumberingin Kidul Village, Ngunut District, Tulungagung Regency, East Java. The target beneficiary was UD. Arta Lumintu, a local SME engaged in beef cattle farming. The farm, established in 2017, was temporarily closed due to the Covid pandemic and resumed operation after a year. Key challenges included high temperatures (24-31°C) and humidity (74-77%), which negatively impacted cattle productivity and excessive electricity consumption for cattle shed operations. The project aimed to address these issues by installing a water spray system with a high-pressure pump and an off-grid solar power system. The system effectively reduces temperature and humidity in the sheds while minimizing electricity costs. The installation consists of a 540 Wp solar panel, a 1500 VA Smart inverter, a 100 Ah VRLA battery, and six pressurized water sprinkler points positioned in various areas of the cattle sheds, powered by a 350 W booster pump. This initiative improves farm efficiency, supports energy independence, and introduces smart farming technology to benefit local farmers.

Abstract

Oil palm workers are a work group at high risk of experiencing health problems. Health problems experienced by oil palm farmers include being pricked by oil palm thorns, pain in the nape, shoulders, and hips, dizziness, headaches, and the risk of non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Oil palm farmers in Desa Air Terbit have never received training related to preventing health problems and rarely undergo health checks. The partners for this activity are the Tani Groups at Air Terbit Village. The solution to this problem is the provision of health education media using videos; Training in preventing health problems for oil palm farmers and their families; Health checks; and Involvement of stakeholders and partners in activities. Activities are carried out offline in Air Terbit Village. The results of the activity show an increase in understanding and skills of oil palm farmers in preventing health problems in oil palm farmers as well as data on health problems experienced. It is hoped that this activity can be useful in aspects of health, agriculture, economy and family welfare, as well as information system technology through health digitalization.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to increase the productivity of lettuce agriculture and the economic welfare of the indigenous Papuan people in Sorong Regency. Sorong Regency is still very dependent on other regions to meet the needs of vegetables because vegetable productivity in Sorong Regency is still very low and people's interest in becoming farmers is still very low, which causes the need for local food, especially vegetables. Low knowledge and skills of members of the Osok Women's Group (75% did not graduate from elementary school). The Osok women's group is dominated by indigenous Papuans who do not have sedentary jobs and have low education. There has been no effort developed in the Osok Women's Group and has not been maximized in the organizational arrangement of the group. The solution to the problems faced by Osok women is by conducting socialization and training in making compost planting media. The use of compost planting media was chosen because compost is proven to increase soil fertility naturally, is environmentally friendly, and has lower production costs compared to chemical fertilizers. This activity involves socialization and training to local communities regarding the manufacture and application of compost planting media in lettuce cultivation. Through composting techniques using local organic materials, such as plant residues, and organic waste. The stages of implementing the service are preparation, interviews, socialization of making compost planting media, training in making compost planting media, evaluation and reporting. The results of this activity show that this service activity shows several important results, both from agricultural and socio-economic aspects of the community. There is an increase in the knowledge and skills of the Osok Women's Group by 100%. 80% of organic household waste is converted into compost and there is an increase in household income of 5-10%. This activity has had a positive impact on the indigenous Papuan community in Sorong Regency, especially in optimizing the potential in a sustainable manner and increasing income. This program is expected to continue to grow and provide long-term benefits for the welfare of the local community.

Abstract

High cliffs in the mountainous area surround the village of Rahtawu make the area more vulnerable and prone to natural disasters. This community service empowered the youth in Rahtawu Village regarding disaster mitigation with interactive training method-based videos and disaster response simulations. The respondents to the community service activity consisted of 55 adolescents from four hamlets in Rahtawu Village. The stages of the community service activities included pre-test, video-based training, disaster mitigation simulation, and post-test. The questionnaire contains 20 questions about adolescents' knowledge and attitudes regarding disasters, disaster prevention, and the role of adolescents during disasters. The community service activity resulted in an increase in knowledge and attitudes both before and after the intervention, taking the form of video-based training and disaster mitigation simulations. The adolescents were very enthusiastic about following each discussion topic. Adolescents Understood the importance of disaster mitigation. The researchers expect these adolescents can spread knowledge about disaster mitigation in their surroundings.

Abstract

Solar power plants are efficient and environmentally friendly sources of renewable energy. Previously, a solar power plant with a capacity of 6 x 100 Wp had been installed at the Al-Ikhlas Orphan Boarding School, Singosari District, Malang Regency, but the power produced was not optimal. Therefore, the addition of solar modules with a capacity of 4 x 100 Wp is carried out. It is necessary to design and analyze solar power plants using pvsyst software to find out how effective the addition of solar panels is so that the total capacity is 10 x 100 Wp. This research includes the design and simulation of solar panels to optimize the system configuration, including the placement of solar panels, tilt angles, and orientation. The analysis is carried out by taking into account location data, equipment specifications, and local environmental conditions. The results of the study show that the design value of solar power plants using PVSYST software is: average annual radiation of 870 kWh/m², temperature value of 24.99°C, PV input power of 1667.2 Watts, output power of 1595.4 Watts, performance ratio of solar power plant 0.809, and efficiency value of 18.8%. After testing in the field, an average efficiency was obtained in sunny weather of 15.47% with an average voltage of 31.62 V, current of 20.03 A, and power of 651.18 Watts. The addition of solar modules significantly improves the energy production and efficiency of solar PV.
