Abstract

The landfilling of the Beringin-Salati road in Taliabu exposes the practice of civic clientelism in infrastructure development. Rather than being the responsibility of the state, development is rife with rent-seeking exchanges between officials and contractors. This research aims to examine the patron-client relationship in the road project and the dilemma between citizen needs and fragile public legitimacy. Qualitative methods were used through case studies utilizing online media sources. The results indicate that road construction functions more as a means of distributing political patronage and strengthening patron-client networks than as a mechanism for fulfilling citizens' basic rights. The implications of this research enrich citizenship studies by highlighting the paradox of development in relation to weak policy governance at the local level.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an overview of the supervisory mechanisms applied in the investigation of illicit narcotics trafficking and abuse conducted by the Narcotics Investigation Unit of the Sidrap Resort Police, as well as the oversight of the implementation of narcotics-abuse prevention facilitation carried out by the local government, particularly the National and Political Unity Agency of Sidrap Regency. The research employed a qualitative approach to describe the procedures used for data collection, with data obtained through interviews, observations, and archival documentation. The findings indicate that governmental oversight of narcotics-related investigations conducted by the Narcotics Investigation Unit of the Sidrap Resort Police faces several challenges, especially during arrest operations. These challenges include the disruption of information networks following the apprehension of previous perpetrators and difficulties in securing physical evidence. Oversight by the local government in implementing narcotics-abuse prevention facilitation—performed by the National and Political Unity Agency of Sidrap Regency—remains limited to a few activities, such as enhancing community participation in narcotics-abuse prevention through public awareness programs, which have not been carried out optimally, and establishing cooperation with certain entities such as non-governmental organizations and law-enforcement institutions. Several responsibilities, however, have not yet been fulfilled, including drafting regional regulations on narcotics, involving FKUB, FKDM, and Kominda in narcotics-abuse prevention efforts, and formulating comprehensive programs and activities targeting narcotics-abuse prevention.

Abstract

This study examines Anthony Doerr’s All the Light We Cannot See through the lens of feminist disability theory, particularly the works of Rosemarie Garland- Thomson. It aims to explore how blindness and femininity are portrayed not as deficits, but as alternative forms of knowledge, agency, and resistance. The analysis centers on the character of Marie-Laure LeBlanc, a blind young girl whose heightened sensory perception, emotional strength, and quiet resilience defy traditional stereotypes of disability and female passivity. Employing a qualitative research method based on library research and textual analysis, the study investigates how Doerr’s narrative construction of Marie-Laure challenges dominant visual norms, narrative, and patriarchal representations. Key findings highlight blindness as a valid and complex way of knowing, the politics of visibility and invisibility, and the role of social context and support systems in shaping disabled subjectivity. The study concludes that All the Light We Cannot See contributes to a broader literary and cultural recognition of disability and femininity as meaningful, dignified, and agentive states of being.
