Abstract

Measurement of Sedimentation Rate and Water Quality in Catfish Ponds Using Sediment Trap in Rumbai Bukit Subdistrict. Rumbai Bukit in Pekanbaru City, Riau Province, has aquaculture potential supported by the fish farming group mina usaha, which cultivates catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) in earthen ponds. The aim of this community service activity was to monitor the quality of catfish ponds using sediment traps, carried out in collaboration with Student Community Service from the University of Riau over a period of 40 days. This activity involved local fish farmers in Rumbai Bukit. Ten students provided assistance to improve pond productivity by monitoring pondquality through measurements of sedimentation rate, temperature, Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), and pH. Following the measurements, training was conducted and followed by continuous monitoring of water quality and fish growth. The analysis of water quality in relation to fish growth resulted in a graph showing the relationship between feed application and physical water parameters. The sedimentation rate in pond one was relatively high, averaging 71.85 ml/L, compared to 16 ml/L in pond two. The temperature in pond one ranged from 32°C to 35°C, while in pond two it ranged from 31°C to 34°C. TDS levels in pond one were relatively high, ranging from 112 to 194 ppm, compared to 9 to 24 ppm in pond two. The pH in pond one ranged from 6.9 to 7.5, while in pond two it ranged from 6.3 to 7.1. This community service activity was well received, with around 70% of fish farmers enthusiastically participating. The use of sediment traps was effective in monitoring sediment accumulation in catfish ponds. Ponds with poor management showed thicker sediment layers and a decline in water quality. Regular monitoring and efficient feed management are recommended to maintain optimal water quality and fish health. This activity has made a tangible contribution by increasing fish farmers' awareness and capacity regarding the importance of regular water quality monitoring, and by encouraging the adoption of more sustainable aquaculture practices to support local food security and the environmental sustainability of aquaculture in the Rumbai Bukit area.

Abstract

Pemerintah Desa Jurug mencanangkan pembangunan agrowisata dengan tujuan memaksimalkan potensi alam yang ada terutama panorama desa yang indah serta dukungan potensi pertanian. Lokasi desa yang cukup strategis membuat akses menuju desa ini tidak sulit. Dalam pengelolaan agrowisata, perlu dipersiapkan sumber daya manusia (SDM) yang baik agar keberjalanan program terarah. Berdasarkan hasil observasi, SDM pada lokasi pengabdian belum memiliki kemampuan yang baik dalam mengelola agrowisata, terutama dalam keorganisasian dan pemasaran. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kualitas SDM pengelola Agrowisata di Desa Jurug melalui aspek manajemen organisasi dan pemasaran. Tim PHP2D memberikan solusi melalui program Jurug Kelana Dewi dengan menekankan pada pembenahan SDM pada mitra. Program dimulai dari survei, penyamaan persepsi, FGD, pelatihan keorganisasian, pelatihan pemasaran, dan pengajuan MoU. Hasil dari program ini adalah peningkatan kemampuan mitra dalam membuat rencana kerja organisasi pada agrowisata Desa Jurug. Selain itu, mitra juga bertambah kemampuan dalam menjalankan strategi digital marketing. Adapun indicator keberhasilan program dapat dilihat dengan beberapa kegiatan yang terlaksana seperti tersusunnya struktur organisasi pengelola agrowisata, perencanaan program, kerja, pembuatan media branding melalui sampek fisik pada lokasi agrowisata, media promosi digital di media social serta website objek agrowisata, dan tercapainya kesepakatan Kerjasama atau MoU dengan intansi Dinas Kebudayaan Pariwisata Pemuda dan Olahraga Kabupaten Ponorogo serta Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian Univesitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo.

Abstract

Utilization of Reservoirs as Water Sources in Subak Balangan and Uma Tegal in Response to Water Crisis. The water crisis is a major challenge in various regions of Indonesia, including Bali, which relies on traditional irrigation systems like Subak. This study highlights the water shortage issues in Subak Balangan and Uma Tegal, Desa Kuwum, Badung, Bali, driven by climate change and water use conflicts between upstream and downstream areas. These problems are exacerbated by inadequate irrigation channels, resulting in an inability to retain water during the rainy season and droughts in the dry season. Implementing water reservoirs is proposed as an effective solution. Reservoirs function as rainwater reservoirs that can be used during the dry season, ensuring year-round water availability and enhancing agricultural productivity. The study also involves the installation of geomembranes for the reservoir to improve water storage efficiency. The results show that reservoirs can stabilize the water supply for irrigation, reduce flood risks, and provide significant ecological and economic benefits for the farming community. Wise reservoir management, including water quality monitoring, environmental impact mitigation, and active community participation, is crucial for sustainable water availability. This study concludes that a reservoir is a sustainable solution for addressing the water crisis, optimizing water resource use, and supporting the economic well-being of local communities

Abstract

Urban farming has emerged as a viable strategy to address limited land availability, food insecurity, and economic vulnerability in urban areas. In Southeast Pontianak District, West Kalimantan, high population density and limited green space pose significant barriers to community-based agricultural initiatives. This community service initiative aims to enhance the community's understanding of how to manage agricultural practices in small-scale areas. This program empowered 48 local residents, especially housewives and unemployed youth, through participatory training in hydroponics and verticulture techniques. The program utilized workshops, counseling sessions, and hands-on practice in household waste recycling for plant cultivation and fertilizer production. Post-training evaluation revealed impressive implementation rates, with 77.1% of participants (n=37) actively practicing urban farming within three months. Among implementers, adoption patterns demonstrated program flexibility: 40.5% adopted hydroponics exclusively, 21.6% focused on verticulture, while 37.8% integrated both techniques. Cultivation diversity was substantial, with 48.7% growing 1-3 plant varieties and 37.8% managing 4-6 species. Timeline analysis showed 62.2% began implementation within 1-3 months, while 37.8% sustained practices for 4-6 months, indicating long-term behavioral change. Results demonstrate increased community awareness, technical capacity, and sustainable practice adoption. The high implementation rates and diverse patterns suggest program success in creating adaptable solutions for varied household conditions, with strong potential for scalability to similar urban contexts.

Abstract

Organic certification is urgently needed for long pepper to meet global market standards and enhance product credibility. Wonogiri Regency is the largest center for long pepper production in Central Java, with this biopharmaceutical commodity cultivated for generations. Its promising market potential necessitates meeting global standards, including organic certification. This community service initiative aims to bridge knowledge gaps and improve farming practices through Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for organic long pepper. The methods used include classroom activities to assess farmer knowledge and transfer knowledge through socialization and field activities in demonstration plots, starting with the identification of farmer training priorities. A pre-test survey revealed that while over 65% of farmers understood the planting stage, less than 50% were familiar with land preparation, planting, and harvesting. This low level of knowledge is due to a lack of information on farming practices that comply with organic Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). Key training priorities identified include: (1) preparation and application of organic fertilizers and pesticides, (2) propagation of organic long pepper seeds, and (3) post-harvest handling. To address these, the Organic Field School (OFiS) was established as a training platform, equipping farmers with practical skills. The results indicate that farmers gained significant knowledge and can now independently implement organic long pepper cultivation. OFiS method can bridge the farmer’s knowledge gap, increase farmers’ knowledge in preparation, growing, planting, and harvesting based on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). OFiS serves as an effective solution to enhance sustainable agricultural practices, supporting farmers in producing high-quality organic long pepper that meets global standards.

Abstract

Application of Frozen Storage Technology to Maintain the Quality of Klanceng Honey and Propolis. Klanceng honey and propolis are high-value products from stingless bee cultivation, yet their quality is often constrained by high moisture content, poor harvest hygiene, and limited storage technology. The Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) “Madu Klanceng Ceper” faces challenges including a short shelf life (two months), substandard packaging, and limited production capacity. This community service program aimed to enhance product quality and shelf life through improved production tools, frozen storage technology, and packaging development. Activities included training on food dehydrator use to lower honey moisture, provision of protective equipment and honey extractors to improve hygiene and efficiency, supply of freezer boxes to delay fermentation and expand storage capacity, and dissemination of packaging and labeling standards. The program resulted in reduced honey moisture (0,97%) compared to the previous product. The observation of product shelf life showed that up to the sixth month there were no signs of deterioration, and no gas ormation was observed in the honey as a result of fermentation. In addition, the harvesting time decreased from three hours to one hour, and the packaging became safer, more attractive, and more informative.

Abstract

Empowerment of Jaya Farmer Group and MBS Farmers in Purworejo Sragen Through Complete Feed Preparation Training for the Village Development Program. The Village Empowerment Program implemented in Purworejo Village, Gemolong District, Sragen Regency, was motivated by the community's interest in raising dairy goats. The dairy goats that are quite developed include PE, Jawa Randu, and Sapera dairy goats. This Village Development Program is funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The development of dairy goats starts from the smallest unit, namely farmers, by forming a Livestock Farmers Group association. The Village Empowerment Program invites two Livestock Farmers Groups in Purworejo Village to become partners. The Livestock Farmers Groups targeted in the village empowerment activities are the Jaya Livestock Farmers Group and the Muda Bakti Sejahtera Livestock Farmers Group. The problems that arise in livestock farmers are related to milk production that is not yet optimal. Low milk production can be caused by the provision of feed that is not Accordance with the nutritional needs of livestock. The nutritional needs of livestock in each physiological phase are different. The solution provided through this Village Empowerment Program is the manufacture of complete feed for dairy goats. Complete feed is a fairly simple technology in livestock feed management. The ration for making complete feed is adjusted by looking at the availability of feed ingredients around Purworejo Village, namely cassava, bran, corn cobs, CGF, copra cake, and minerals. The Village Empowerment Program begins with socialization followed by workshops and mentoring. The conclusion after a series of programs have been completed is that farmers can understand the use and process of making complete feed technology which is assessed through the tests provided and their activeness during the mentoring session.

Abstract

Analysis of Coffee Farming Using Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Coffee Farming in Garut Regency. Good Agricultural Practices, or GAP on Coffee, is a guideline for good and sustainable coffee cultivation. An analysis of coffee farming in Garut Regency was conducted using GAP on Coffee. The purpose of the analysis was to determine the suitability of farming practices with GAP on Coffee. This was a quantitative descriptive study using interviews and observation techniques to collect data. The analysis was conducted on 11 aspects of good coffee cultivation practices, namely selection, suitability, land preparation, shade tree planting, use of high-quality planting materials, seedling production, planting, fertilization, pruning, shade tree management, integrated pest management, and harvesting. The harvesting aspect includes both harvesting and post-harvest handling. The research results indicate that Garut coffee farmers have implemented GAP on Coffee, with 75% of the scope meeting or exceeding the requirements of GAP on Coffee (≥ 60-100%), specifically in fertilization, planting, seedling production, use of high-quality planting materials, shade tree planting, land suitability, and land selection (≥ 80-100%). And the harvesting scope, which includes harvesting (77%) and integrated pest management (78%). However, the scope that does not yet meet the requirements includes land preparation (40%) and shade tree management and pruning (57%). Limited capital, lack of knowledge, and skills are the main constraints. Limited capital, lack of knowledge, and skills are obstacles. Therefore, to meet the requirements of GAP on Coffeefarming in Garut Regency, there needs to be a fertilizer assistance program as well as training and technical guidance, and ongoing education in implementing GAP, one of which can be done by involving cooperatives and farmer groups as assistants.

Abstract

Pengoptimalan potensi sumber daya lahan di Kabupaten Pacitan sangat penting dilakukan untuk pengembangan kawasan pertanian. Salah satu pengembangan kawasan pertanian yang dapat dilakukan yaitu pengembangan perkebunan kopi berbasis agroforestri. Pengembangan kawasan pertanian merupakan suatu kegiatan yang kompleks dan perlu memerhatikan berbagai aspek kelestarian lingkungan dan kesesuaian serta daya dukung lahannya. Tujuan pengabdian adalah untuk mengevaluasi kesesuaian lahan dan memberikan rekomendasi pengelolaan tanaman kopi arabika di Desa Tokawi, Kecamatan Nawangan, Kabupaten Pacitan. Kegiatan dilaksanakan pada bulan Maret – Oktober 2021 di Desa Tokawi, Kecamatan Nawangan, Kabupaten Pacitan. Metode pendekatan yang digunakan adalah community-based. Hasil kegiatan pendampingan menunjukkan bahwa pengembangan kopi arabika di Desa Tokawi, telah sesuai peruntukkannya hanya saja kendala peningkatan produksi seperti suhu yang belum sesuai, ketersediaan air, dan ketersediaan hara harus diperhatikan. Untuk mengatasi persoalan yang ada maka perbaikan harus didasarkan pada faktor penghambat pertumbuhan tanaman seperti ketersediaan air dan hara. Beberapa unit lahan telah mengalami peningkatan kelas kesesuaian lahan (kesesuaian lahan potensial) setelah ada input teknologi perbaikan yaitu pembuatan drainase, penambahan bahan organik, pengapuran, pemupukan N, pemupukan batuan fosfat, pemupukan K, dan pembuatan teras.

Abstract

Sambel pecel home industry, founded by Tri Nurhayati, sells sambel pecel (pecel sauce) products under the brand “Sambel Pecel Mbak Nur". As a newcomer, “Sambel Pecel Mbak Nur" already had quite a lot of enthusiasts. However, the production capacity had only reached 20 kgs/month due to constraints on the equipment. “Sambel Pecel Mbak Nur” had only a small capacity of the chopper, so the production process ran inefficiently. Excess oil of the product is also a problem, causing shorter product shelf life. Another problem was less attractive packaging and labelling, as it only used thin, clear, flat polypropylene plastic bags as primary packaging and thin, clear, flat polyethylene plastic as secondary packaging, with limited information on the label. The last problem faced was the limited demand and market reach. The aims of this program were to increase the production capacity of sambel pecel, improve product quality, improve product packaging and labelling, increase the number of sales, and expand marketing reach. This community service activity has introduced appropriate technology at the home industry “Sambel Pecel Mbak Nur" by introducing a larger capacity chopper and a spinner to drain excess oil. This activity has also improved the product packaging by introducing thick standing pouches, plastic, and thicker mica plastic as secondary packaging with a more informative label, so that the product is better protected and more attractive. Increased market reach has been attempted with digital marketing training. From the evaluation conducted, it can be seen that the introduction of appropriate technology and training in e-marketing was able to upgrade production capacity and product quality of “Sambel Pecel Mbak Nur".
