Abstract

Abstract

Cassava Peel Chips as an Effort to Utilize Economic Value Waste in Keripik Selo Gedong MSME. Micro Small Medium Enterprise (MSME) Selo Gedong Chips has produced various chips, including cassava, banana, and bote. The obstacle is that cassava peel waste, which reaches 20% of the total cassava produced so far, has only been used as animal feed and has not been widely used for human consumption. Even though cassava peel still has the potential to be a healthy food because its fiber content is 15.20% (w/w). However, the high content of cyanide acid (HCN) (419.8 mg/kg) and its toxic nature is a weakness so it needs to be treated to reduce the toxicity. This activity aims to process cassava peel waste into cassava peel chips with economic value. To increase the selling value of the cassava peel chips, a cassava peel chip oil drainer was provided to increase the product's shelf life and attractive packaging was introduced for the cassava peel products. Based on the results of training in making cassava peel chips, soaking in salt for three days succeeded in reducing cyanide acid levels to a concentration suitable for consumption, namely 4.32 ppm. The formulations most preferred by the panelists were the balado flour and original flour formulations. One 80-gram package of cassava peel chips can be sold for IDR 6,500.00. Judging from the evaluation aspect, the enthusiasm of the training participants in making cassava peel chips has a high score. Apart from that, looking at the skill aspect, participants were able to produce cassava peel products that were safe to consume and crunchy with attractive packaging.

Abstract

Enhancing Essential Oils Yield through Initial Maceration using Ultrasonication Method at Rumah Atsiri Indonesia.

Abstract

Integration of Agrotourism Mapping and Community Based Landslide Disaster Mitigation in Anggrasmanis Village, Karanganyar. Anggrasmanis Village has the potential to become a tourist village with a variety of destinations, ranging from religious tourism to nature tourism to educational tourism. Its location in Karanganyar Regency, with its fertile soil, adds to the opportunities for regional development in agrotourism management. On the other hand, the steep topography and high rainfall intensity cause some areas to be prone to landslides, despite mitigation efforts that have been made. In fact, the largest landslide disaster in Karanganyar Regency occurred in 2007, claiming 58 lives. Based on this background, community service activities in Anggrasmanis Village, Karanganyar Regency, aim to map areas with tourism potential and identify landslide prone areas to support sustainable development planning. The methods used include field surveys, spatial analysis, and participatory mapping involving the community, village officials, and volunteers from Anggrasmanis Village. The mapping was carried out using editing applications such as CorelDraw, Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator. The optimization of map use was also carried out using barcode scanning technology, which aims to make it easier for the community to gather information independently through cell phone layers. The results of this activity are thematic maps showing the locations of agrotourism sites and landslide prone zones. The thematic maps are expected to be used by local governments, tourism operators, and the community to make informed decisions and serve as a basis for developing sustainable agrotourism in Anggrasmanis Village.

Abstract

The poultry group of Curah Leduk, Banyuanyar Village, Banyuwangi Regency has experience in raising and selling live chickens to collectors and traditional markets. However, their business is still limited to selling live chickens without any post-harvest processing, which restricts opportunities for value addition and causes around 10% of chickens to remain unsold due to low body weight. To address this issue, a program was introduced to develop smoked chicken products using cold smoking technology as a solution to utilize unsold chickens and expand market opportunities. This program applied cold smoking as a novel approach, replacing the commonly used hot smoking method with a low-temperature process. This method offers advantages such as better product texture, a more delicate flavor, and lower nutrient loss. The initiative aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of the poultry group through practical training in cold smoked chicken processing, reducing dependence on live chicken sales. The program was implemented through five main stages: coordination, socialization, direct practical training, evaluation, and mentoring. During processing, the cold smoking method resulted in an average weight loss of 6.1% due to evaporation of water and fat. All 15 participants showed a 100% increase in knowledge, particularly in calculating weight loss after training. Smoked chicken processing also increased product value by approximately 48.9% compared to fresh broiler chicken. The outcome showed that the activity improved participants’ understanding of production cost estimation and selling price calculation based on weight loss, while also developing their practical skills to independently produce smoked chicken products.

Abstract

Fermented Feed for Cattle Based on Local Resources in the “Lembah telaga” Livestock Farmers Group, Gumantar Village, North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province. Gumantar is a village located in Kayangan District, North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. This village has agricultural and plantation potential with the main products being rice, corn, peanuts, cashews, coffee, cocoa, coconut, bananas, and other horticultural crops. The problem that is often encountered is the very limited availability of food in the dry season. This makes many breeders sell their livestock at low prices during the dry season. Another problem is farmers' low knowledge of storage and preservation technology for feed ingredients as feed in the dry season. In the rainy season, the available food is quite abundant. Therefore, it is necessary to provide training regarding animal feed storage and preservation technology. One method that is widely used and easy to do is making fermented feed. Fermentation is the process of changing  organic materials into other, more useful materials with the help of microorganisms in a controlled manner. The aim of fermentation is to reduce anti-nutritional substances, increase digestibility, increase shelf life and increase selling value. The final fermentation product contains compounds that are simpler and easier to digest than the source material. After the implementation team provided outreach to partners, knowledge of the types of forage waste for feed increased from 40% to 80%. Increase in forage nutrition (protein) from 6.7% to 16.45%. The results of the activity showed that there was an increase in farmers' ability to make fermented feed, the fermented feed produced could be stored for 6 months and there was an increase in the nutritional value of the feed.
