Abstract

Perceptions and intentions about breastfeeding, especially among adolescents who represent future parents vary widely. Understanding these views is essential for designing impactful health education programs. This study aimed to assess perceptions and intentions toward breastfeeding among adolescents in Bangladesh. Method used a cross-sectional survey conducted on 132 adolescents aged 14-18 years from urban and rural areas of Bangladesh, who were selected through appropriate sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Analysis was conducted using a computer program that used descriptive and inferential statistics. Significant relationships were identified between breastfeeding perception and several socio-demographic factors such as class level (t=2.107, p=.037), mother’s education level (t=2.215, p=.029), father’s education level (F=5.189, p=.007), and source of information on breastfeeding (F=4.290, p=.006). Additionally, a positive correlation was found between the number of siblings and breastfeeding perceptions (r=.047, p=.047). On the other hand, no significant relationship between a range of socio-demographic factors and adolescents' intentions regarding breastfeeding in Bangladesh was noticed in this study. P<.05 was used as the significant of this study. It is concluded that educational interventions that address both male and female adolescents, emphasizing the health benefits of breastfeeding and overcoming social barriers, are crucial for promoting a supportive breastfeeding culture.

Abstract

Sedentary Lifestyle is defined as a lifestyle characterized by a lack of physical activity. Based on data from the Indonesian Health Survey (SKI), the issue of overweight among children aged 15-12 years in Indonesia remains quite high. The national prevalence of overweight is 11.9%, and obesity reaches 7.8%. Children’s current lifestyle resembles a sedentary lifestyle, where activities are done with minimal energy expenditure. A sedentary lifestyle can negatively impact health, including increasing the risk of obesity due to an imbalance between calorie intake and energy expenditure. Objective. This study aims to determine the relationship between sedentary lifestyle and obesity in school children at SDN Majalengka Wetan VII in 2024. This research uses a quantitative correlational approach and a cross-sectional method. Data on dependent and independent variables were collected at the same point in time to determine if there was a relationship or association between the variables. Primary data were obtained through structured questionnaires using the ASAQ and measurements of weight and height to assess obesity incidence based on the Z-Score. The results of the Chi-Square statistical test showed a p-value of 0.000, smaller than α = 0.005, meaning that Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. It can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between sedentary lifestyle and obesity in children at SDN Majalengka Wetan VII in 2024. It is suggested that children increase daily physical activity, such as playing outdoors or participating in sports, reduce excessive sitting time, and limit the use of electronic devices to avoid obesity.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition of impaired physical and cognitive growth due to malnutrition during the growth period. Children who are stunted can experience disruptions in physical, mental, cognitive, and intellectual development, making them unable to learn optimally. The aim of the research is to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge and attitudes towards stunting prevention efforts and the incidence of stunting in toddlers. The research method is quantitative with a correlational research design using a cross-sectional approach. The population consists of all mothers with toddlers in the working area of the Cigeureung Health Center in Tasikmalaya City, with proportional random sampling yielding a total of 94 samples. Data were analyzed using frequency distribution and chi-square test. The research results showed that the majority of toddlers experienced stunting, with 54 toddlers (57.4%), the majority of mothers had low knowledge, with 67 respondents (71.3%), and negative maternal attitudes, with 55 respondents (58.5%). The results of the Chi-square test for knowledge showed that there is a significant relationship between mothers' knowledge and attitudes about stunting prevention efforts and the incidence of stunting in toddlers. Based on the research results, it is recommended to conduct health education regularly and on schedule to improve mothers' knowledge and attitudes about stunting prevention efforts, especially for mothers with toddlers, by implementing health promotion methods in both small and large groups.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a global health issue with a rising prevalence. One effective intervention for managing blood glucose levels is diabetic foot exercises, which enhance blood circulation and insulin sensitivity. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of diabetic foot exercises on blood glucose levels. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a control group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of 30 respondents divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group performed diabetic foot exercises twice a week for four weeks. Data were analyzed using the Independent T-test. The intervention group showed a significant decrease in mean blood glucose levels, from 245.40 mg/dL to 204.93 mg/dL, with a difference of 40.47 mg/dL. Conversely, the control group experienced an increase in mean blood glucose levels, from 258.46 mg/dL to 305.80 mg/dL, with a difference of 47.34 mg/dL. Statistical analysis indicated a significant difference between the intervention and control groups, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Diabetic foot exercises effectively lower blood glucose levels in type 2 DM patients. This intervention can serve as an additional therapy for diabetes management, particularly for patients at risk of diabetic neuropathy. Education and widespread implementation of diabetic foot exercises are recommended as an accessible and efficient diabetes control strategy.

Abstract

Parenting refers to how parents guide and educate their children, either directly or indirectly, as part of their responsibility. ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a psychiatric condition characterized by difficulty focusing, excessive attention shifts, and hyperactivity. This disorder affects children's learning abilities and daily functioning, with a prevalence of 5-8%, primarily in boys. ADHD rates vary globally, ranging from 2-20%, with 14.5% in the United States, 22.5% in Colombia, 20% in Ukraine, and 26.4% in Indonesia, according to 2007 data from the National Statistics Agency. This study aimed to explore the connection between parenting styles and the risk of ADHD in preschool children at TK Kuntum Mawar, Pamulang Barat. Using a quantitative, cross-sectional design, data were gathered through questionnaires from 64 parents of children aged 5-6 years at TK B Kuntum Mawar. Statistical analysis using the Spearman rank test revealed a significant relationship between parenting styles and the risk of ADHD (p-value = 0.014 <α 0.05). The findings suggest that parenting styles influence the likelihood of ADHD in preschoolers. Parents are encouraged to adopt effective parenting approaches to reduce the risk of ADHD in young children.

Abstract

Oxygen saturation is the amount of oxygen in the arteries. Because the bronchi shorten, carbon dioxide is trapped and oxygen has difficulty entering the lungs, resulting in decreased oxygen saturation in COPD. Non-medical complementary therapies such as Pursed Lips Breathing are used to treat COPD patients. A common breathing technique to improve activity tolerance is Pursed Lips Breathing (PLB), which is performed on COPD patients to alleviate dyspnea symptoms and increase the patient's oxygen saturation levels. Objective to understand PLB Therapy as an effort to improve oxygen saturation in COPD patients. Literature Review as a research method from accredited articles. The articles in this study are sourced from several search engines such as Google Scholar, PubMed, and Harzing published in the last 5 years. There were 594 from the search engine queries from 2020 to 2024 and 8 articles included in the study. Of these 8 journals, they discuss PLB therapy in COPD patients. PLB therapy has been proven effective in improving oxygen saturation levels in COPD patients.

Abstract

Low Birth Weight (LBW) babies are babies born weighing between 1500 and 2500 grams, and lack of sucking reflex is one of the health problems they may experience. Early oral stimulation, such as massaging the muscle tissue around the mouth, can help overcome weak sucking reflexes. To improve the sucking reflex of patients with LBW, this study aims to apply evidence-based oral motor exercises. This study uses a case study type and is descriptive. In three days, oral motor exercises were carried out every day for fifteen minutes. The results of the study on patient after being given oral motor exercises on the first and second days the patient was still given nutrition through OGT and on the day when client had been given milk through a bottle as much as 10 cc / 3 hours, but client finished the milk as much as 5-7 cc / 3 hours. It can be concluded that the focus data of the assessment results obtained that client was medically diagnosed with LBW, OGT was installed due to weak sucking and swallowing reflexes, Patient weight was 2200 g, then the author raised the main diagnosis of nutritional deficit and disorganized infant behavior which was given oral motoric exercise, and the results obtained that oral motor exercise can increase sucking reflexes in LBW infants. With this study, the suggestion for hospital service institutions is that oral motor exercises like this can be used as an alternative to increase sucking reflexes in LBW.
