Abstract

Spatial thinking is a skill to remember, operate, manipulate, predict, combine, interpret, transform, explore an object to solve problems in various life contexts. Spatial thinking requires three related components, namely: the concept of space, spatial representation methods, and spatial reasoning. The difficulty of students for representing ideas encourages researchers to observe the spatial reasoning of elementary teacher training program’s student. Visual learning style is closely related to exact mathematical soul. Therefore, this study focuses on describing elementary teacher training program’ student’s visual learning style. The subjects of this research are students of class 2019 A and 2019 B as many as 70 elementary teacher training program’s student who are taking elementary school mathematics learning courses at a University in Surabaya and have been grouped into high, medium groups. and below. Medium group elementary teacher training program’s student were selected to be given a learning style test, which then described their spatial reasoning. The purpose of this study was to describe the reasoning of elementary teacher training program student’s visual learning style. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. Researchers used written test, geometry problem-solving questions, and interviews to explore in-depth information on students who are elementary teacher training program’s student of visual learning style. There are 40 students in the medium group with details of 10 students with visual learning style, 30 students with auditory learning style and 10 students with kinesthetic learning style. The group of students who are elementary teacher training program student’s visual learning style are analyzed for their spatial reasoning based on the results of written tests and interviews. The results showed that the visual learning style student’s group tended to work sequentially and neatly meeting the criteria for spatial reasoning indicators. Visual learning style of elementary teacher training program’s student (KSV) could describe their spatial reasoning through the process of categorizing, generalizing, synthesizing, evaluating, define, combine, and represent in solving geometric problems. One of the main characteristics of visual learning styles appears when they manipulate objects and illustrate with sketches. They carry out the work process in detail and detail, and represent through pictures or visuals

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a change in the education system, namely regular or face-to-face Numerical literacy ability is the ability or skill in using various kinds of numbers and symbols related to basic mathematics to solve practical problems in the context of everyday life. This study aims to determine the numeracy literacy ability of students in solving math problems in terms of reflective and impulsive cognitive styles. In looking at students' numeracy literacy skills, indicators of numeracy literacy abilities are used which are adjusted to the stages of the problem solving process. This research is a descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The research subjects consisted of 23 students of the Mathematics Education Study Program at the University of Papua. Data collection consisted of a numeracy literacy test, an MFFT (Matching Familiar Figure Test) test to determine cognitive style, interviews and documentation. The results of the MFFT test showed that there were 11 students with a reflective cognitive style, 9 students with an impulsive cognitive style, 1 student with a low accurate cognitive style, and 2 students with a fast accurate cognitive style. After that, 2 subjects with a reflective cognitive style were obtained which were supported by 2 subjects who had a tendency for a reflective cognitive style and 2 subjects who had an impulsive cognitive style. The results showed that the reflective subject one (SR1) the first reflective student completed the numeracy literacy problem in 91 minutes and the reflective subject two (SR2) completed the problem in 98 minutes, where the two subjects with the minute reflective style had exceeded the predetermined maximum time limit, namely 90 minutes. Impulsive subject one (SI1) completed the numeracy literacy test in 32 minutes. The second impulsive subject (SI2) completed the numeracy literacy test questions within 40 minutes. The two students completed it faster than the specified time limit of 90 minutes. Subjects with a cognitive-reflective style in solving problems take a long time but the results obtained tend to be correct or accurate, while subjects with an impulsive cognitive style seem to be in a hurry to answer and tend to be wrong

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a change in the education system, namely regular or face-to-face learning suddenly changed to learning from home (BDR). One of the difficulties is the change in the direct learning climate to online learning, which is done individually. This difficulty resulted in learning loss for students. Learning loss has a long-term negative impact, namely reduced student academic achievement and cognitive skills. Therefore, it is necessary to choose learning media to minimize learning loss due to BDR during the Covid-19 pandemic. One learning media that is suitable for the conditions of the learning community in Kefamenanu City is the Mathematics learning media made from Waste (MPMBS), namely positive and negative charges. This study aims to reduce learning loss for students in the learning community in the city of Kefamenanu. The type of research is an experimental, pre-Experimental Design, namely a One-Group Pretest-Posttest with 11 students in the Sunday school community at one of the GMIT Churches in Kefamenanu. Data collection methods are tests, questionnaires and documentation. The data analysis techniques are descriptive statistical analysis, N-Gain analysis and inferential analysis. The results showed that the average value of the pretest was 33, and the average value of the posttest was 57.17. There was an increase after the students were given the learning treatment using MPMBS with a charge of 27.57 and an average N-gain of 0.64, including the medium category. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the use of waste-based MPMBS in learning integer operations can improve learning achievement while reducing learning loss in the community of Sunday school children in Kefemenanu. The next plan that will be done is to analyze the level of motivation of respondents to the use of MPMBS
