Abstract

Local residents of Batu Bulan Village have been processing buffalo meat into traditional flavored jerky called “raret”. The jerky is marinated in salt and tamarin juice therefore has a less varied taste. Besides that, the long drying time of the jerky makes the texture become tough. Therefore ready-to-eat jerky is one of the innovations to make beef jerky easier to process and maintain its nutritional content. Fermentation lactic acid bacteria (BAL) is one well-known processing technique that are considered most suitable. The aim of this program is to increase the added value of buffalo jerky through processing and packaging innovation. The method used is socialization, counseling, as well as training and mentoring. Furthermore, the implementation of the socialization event took place at the Batu Bulan Village Office which was attended by the woman empowerment and village officials. The results obtained from this activity are the increased ability of Batu Bulan woman empowerment in processing and packaging ready-to-eat buffalo jerky. There has been an increase in the ability of Batu Bulan women in developing their business from the aspect of producing and product packaging.

Abstract

The condition of the Mahakam Delta area, especially the coastal region of Kuala Samboja, Kutai Kartanegara Regency has been decreased due to coastal abrasion and several human activities. As a result, several ecological and economic functions of the mangrove ecosystem on the coast of Kuala Samboja have been dropped. One of the alternative activities carried out by individuals and groups to protect and improve the coastal environment of Kuala Samboja due to the impact of coastal abrasion and human activities is to plant mangrove seedlings. The purpose of this community service activity was to increase knowledge, awareness and concern by academics and students towards the preservation of the coastal environment in Kutai Kartanegara Regency by planting Rizophora mucronata seeds. The mangrove seedling planting activity was carried out on May 30, 2022 in Kuala Samboja Village, Kutai Kartanegara Regency after the student practical course activities were completed. The method used in this activity is a lecture followed by demonstration activities for planting mangrove seedlings for the participants. The result of this community service activity was the planting of 400 seeds of Rizophora mucronata in areas affected by human exploitation and abrasion in the village of Kuala Samboja. The beach clean-up activities have been carried out by the participants around the planting of mangrove seedlings in order to maintain the cleanliness of the coastal environment by collecting various types of garbage scattered around the beach. Several evaluations of activities from the participants were found from the results of mangrove seedling activities, such as the maintenance process, data collection, and monitoring of mangrove seedlings that may need to be carried out by the participants. Therefore, an evaluation of this activity should be carried out by the activity participants to make the successful planting of mangrove seedlings. In general, the planting of mangrove seedlings may increase the knowledge, awareness and concern of the participants for the mangrove ecosystem in Kuala Samboja village. In addition, the collaboration between lecturers, local government and local communities during the planting of mangrove seedlings on the coast of Kuala Samboja village might preserve the mangrove ecosystem in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

Most of the people of Tlogohaji Village are shallot farmers. However, the community's economy is still at the lower middle level. This is because one of them is that the community has not been able to process the harvested shallots so that the people who are mostly farmers directly sell them to collectors. On the other hand, this potential should be used as an opportunity to be developed so that it can improve the welfare of the community through processing shallot agricultural products. Therefore, this community service activity aims to improve community knowledge and skills through community empowerment activities in Tlogohaji Village, Sumberrejo District, Bojonegoro Regency in developing shallot agro-industry villages through a holistic program of village development and empowerment (PHP2D) in 2021. community empowerment activities through PHP2D, including socialization activities for the development of agro-industrial villages, training / counseling on shallot cultivation, shallot processing, marketing of processed shallot products, and processing of onion skin waste. The activity involved village officials, PKK, Karang Taruna, BUMDes, as well as onion farmer groups. Based on the activities carried out, the results obtained through these activities showed that as many as 70% of the people who participated in the activities already had the understanding and skills in developing agro-industrial villages. The achievement of the objectives of the activity is also shown by the community through increasing enthusiasm and positive motivation in processing agricultural shallots into various types of products as an indicator of the development of agro-industrial villages. In addition, the community has the insight and skills in processing and packaging processed shallot products, such as fried onions, chili sauce, and onion powder. This is then used to market processed onion products that have been produced, both online and marketed directly. Thus, the community empowerment activities carried out have been carried out properly according to the expected goals, namely empowering the people of Tlogohaji Village, Sumberrejo District, Bojonegoro Regency so that they have the insight and skills to process and market the results of onion processing.

Abstract

Waste cooking oil is one of the sources of environmental pollutants from the household sector which, if discharged into the environment, it can pollute the environment. Therefore, alternative processing of cooking oil waste is needed into a valuable product and of course can overcome environmental pollution. One alternative that can be chosen is the manufacture of soap and candles based on the presence of fatty acids derived from vegetable oils. Community service activities about making soap and wax from used cooking oil aim to increase the use value and economic value of used cooking oil waste which has not been utilized and even becomes waste that can pollute the environment. This activity was carried out in the Bukit Dewa Residence Residential community in Bengkulu City with 15 participants consisting of housewives. This activity was carried out by several methods, namely the delivery of information, discussions and questions and answers as well as product manufacturing practices and training. Based on the activities carried out, it can be seen that this activity is going well. This is shown by the enthusiasm of the community when delivering information, discussions, questions and answers as well as very good practice and training activities. Evaluation of the success of service activities is known by reviewing the stage of understanding before and after the activity. The achievement indicator is a change in public understanding before and after the activity about making soap from cooking oil waste. Before the activity, 80-90% of participants did not know and after the activity all participants knew the process of making soap and wax from waste cooking oil. This activity is expected to have a significant impact on the cooking oil waste processing sector in the community which can reduce the risk of environmental pollution and provide economic value for the community.
