Abstract

Plastic waste is one type of waste that is not easily biodegradable and is not environmentally friendly. Plastic waste is still a major problem for the community that has not been resolved because of the low level of recycling and the lack of proper handling in the community and schools. The purpose of this activity is as an effort to overcome plastic waste in the Meulaboh State 6 Elementary School (SD) in West Aceh by providing education about ecobric practices and creating positive vibes for students to manage plastic waste into something useful. This educational activity is carried out in two stages, namely the preparation (search of information on the location of the activity implementation and coordination with partners) and the implementation stage (socialization and ecobric practices). The training for partners was carried out using lecture methods, interactive discussions and hands-on practice of making ecobricks with students at SD Negeri 6 Meulaboh, Aceh Barat. The output of this activity is to increase the knowledge and skills of elementary school students through ecobric practices to manage plastic waste around their environment into something useful in everyday life. The conclusion of this activity is that ecobric education is able to minimize the impact of plastic waste through creative, educational and sustainable management, as well as raise awareness of protecting the environment by generating positive vibes from an early age to students. Education and training on making ecobricks at SDN 6 Meulaboh was able to reduce plastic waste in the environment by 11.37 kg.

Abstract

The Province of the Special Region of Yogyakarta ranks third with the highest number of cases of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) nationally. One of the complications of DM, a severe health problem, is diabetic ulcers. Diabetic ulcer care and Covid-19 prevention are strictly associated with a high risk of transmission, a poor prognosis, and a high mortality rate when infected with Covid-19 are needed during a pandemic situation, one of which is to increase the role of the family (caregiver). The purpose of the activity is to optimize the role of caregivers in the simple care of diabetic wounds at home (stay at home) during the Covid-19 period. Comprehensive education about DM management in general and diabetic wounds in particular to families (caregivers), which is carried out using a direct method in conjunction with homecare services for simple treatment of diabetic ulcers while still implementing the Covid-19 health protocol. Providing good benefits to the family (caregiver) as evidenced by an increase in the average score of knowledge and also an increase in the average score of self-perception of ability in performing simple diabetic wound care. The development of long-term care for chronic patients can continue to be carried out by involving the active role of the family (caregiver) as the closest support system for patients. Education to the family directly increases the knowledge and confidence of the family in performing simple diabetic wound care. This program can be an alternative to optimizing infection prevention and the healing process of diabetic wounds.

Abstract

The problem of stunting is important to solve because it has the potential to disrupt the potential of human resources and is related to the level of health, even child mortality. One area in Indonesia that needs attention in terms of stunting is Pijot Village, which is located in Keruak District, East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province. Efforts made by the University of Mataram in preventing stunting in Pijot Village are involving KKN students to conduct training on making MPASI from fish. The purpose of the training activity is to direct the community to be able to make MPASI from marine fish and provide an understanding to the community of the nutritional content of marine fish. The training on making MPASI from fish applies adult learning methods so that the training is carried out with an active participatory approach, two-way communication, and a combination of theory and practice. The target participants in the training were 22 Posyandu cadres in Pijot Village. The result of the training activities for making MPASI in Pijot Village was that the representatives of Posyandu cadres who attended received increased knowledge or skills in making MPASI. This is evidenced by their success in producing solid food in the form of porridge containing marine fish. In addition, the MPASI from fish produced also has a proper texture and taste for babies aged 6-24 months. No significant obstacles were found in the manufacture of MPASI. Based on the results of the training on making MPASI from fish, it can be concluded that the potential of marine fish in Pijot Village can be processed into MPASI for infants aged 6-24 months because marine fish have very rich nutritional content to meet the nutritional needs of infants so as to prevent stunting in children.

Abstract

Consumption of a balanced nutritional diet in adolescents can prevent various kinds of nutritional problems. Currently, many problems related to balanced nutrition are experienced by teenagers, which if not addressed immediately will have an impact until they are adults. Abstract

Sukogidri Village is an underdeveloped village towards an independent village. The topography of the village is in the form of highlands and hills where many bamboo plants grow which is great potential to be utilized. However, bamboo has not been used strategically and has not been of high selling value. One of the benefits of bamboo is used as concrete reinforcement. The basic problem is that the village community, especially the craftsmen, do not yet know about bamboo as concrete reinforcement, so they need mentors and motivators to increase community empowerment. The objectives of this activity include the achievement of the level of empowerment of members of the creative community group and the growth of the entrepreneurial spirit of the craftsmen through counseling and training. Methods for implementing the activities include: (1) providing guidance and training on how to produce concrete reinforcement from bamboo for the structure of simple houses; (2) providing training on bamboo treatment as concrete reinforcement; (3) providing counseling about the marketing and economic prospects of bamboo. The results achieved are the level of empowerment of members of the Community Creative Group increases. From the results of practical and theoretical tests, 80% of the builders did not make mistakes, and only 19.70% made mistakes. As many as 19.70% of the builders are skilled workers but still, need further assistance. And 80.30% of the builders are skilled workers who are independent and do not need further assistance. It can be concluded that training and guidance on bamboo as concrete reinforcement can improve the entrepreneurial spirit of the community with the formation of the Community Creative Group.

Abstract

Today's mangrove ecosystem is increasingly under pressure, mainly due to the conversion of mangrove land into aquaculture, tourism, and industrial areas. At the same time, the mangrove ecosystem has a very vital role in life. Efforts have been made to slow down the degradation rate of the mangrove ecosystem, including by replanting activities (reforestation). Mangrove planting activities are often constrained by the lack of healthy seeds or a mismatch between the seeds and the planting environment. It causes the planted mangrove seedlings not to be able to grow appropriately and even die. This community service activity aims to educate and assist the community in Poton Bako Hamlet, Jerowaru Village, Jerowaru District, East Lombok Regency regarding mangrove nursery techniques, especially R. mucronata and S. alba species, properly and correctly. The method used is using booklet media and direct practical assistance. Moreover, the community listens and practices what has been conveyed regarding nursery procedures. The results of this activity received high enthusiasm from the community, and the community felt its usefulness. This mentoring activity requires follow-up in the form of continuous control and assistance so that future nursery programs carried out independently by the community can continue and run optimally. In the future, it is hoped that the community's independence to carry out mangrove nurseries can run well. Thus what has been obtained by the community can be transmitted to others so that mangrove conservation is maintained.
