Abstract

The epidemiology and area of the spread of DHF is increasing along with the increasing mobility and population density. One of the efforts made in eradicating mosquito vectors is by using insecticides. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the combination of avocado (Persea americana) and betel leaf (Piper betle) ethanol extracts against the death of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the combination of avocado (Persea americana) and betel leaf (Piper betle) ethanol extracts against the death of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. This research design is experimental with post test only control group design. The electric mat that had been soaked with a combination of ethanolic extract of avocado (Persea americana) and ethanolic extract of betel leaf (Piper betle) was divided into 4 concentration groups, namely positive control, negative control, and a combination of extracts with concentrations of 1%, 3% and 5 %. Then tested with 10 Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in each treatment. Then tested with 10 Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in each treatment. The results showed that at a concentration of 5% it was able to kill 10 Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in just 5 minutes compared to concentrations of 1% and 3%. From this study it can be concluded that the greater the concentration of extract used, the faster the duration of time to kill the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Abstract

Tabat barito leaf (Ficus deltoidea) is a single leaf of a sole form, the leaf has round tip with a flat edge and a pointed base. These leaves have a smooth surface, coloured green above and brownish yellow beneath. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of polar, semi-polar and non-polar compounds contained in Tabat barito leaf extract extracted with solvents of different polarity. The highest bacterial inhibition was also measured against Bacillus substillis which is a gram-positive bacterial. The maceration method uses 3 levels of solvents with different polarities, started with a non-polar solvent (n-hexan), a semi-polar solvent (ethyl acetate) and finally macerated with a polar solvent (methanol). The bacterial activity test was done with diffusion method. The results showed that the Tabat Barito leaf extract contained antibacterial compounds that were non-polar, semi-polar and polar. The highest inhibition of the hexane extract at concentration 15% with a clear zone diameter of 22.33 mm in very strong inhibition category against Bacillus substilis bacteria

Abstract

Family Planning (KB) is a national scale program to reduce birth rates and control population growth in Indonesia. Family planning has three phases. The first phase is the phase of delaying/preventing pregnancy. The second is the phase of spacing out pregnancies, and the third is the phase of terminating/terminating pregnancy/fertility. The use of contraceptives in family planning is an effort to prevent pregnancy. The most common contraceptive methods are the pill, injection, and IUD. The purpose of this study was to determine the cost-effectiveness of the use of oral contraceptive pills, contraceptive injections, and IUD at the Loa Janan Health Center. This study used a sample of 42 acceptors. The average cost of injection contraceptives is (Rp 25,000), pills (Rp 15,000), IUD (Rp 107,000) and the effectiveness of injection contraceptives (0.95%), pills (0.857%), and IUDs (0.867%). The ACER (Average cost-effectiveness ratio) value of injection contraceptives was Rp. 26,315, and 75% of the acceptors had an average quality of life. The ACER value of the pill was Rp. 17,502, and 85.7% of the acceptors had a good quality of life, the ACER value of the IUD was Rp. 123,414, and 60% of the acceptors had a good quality of life. The Pill-Injection's ICER (incremental cost-effectiveness ratio) value is Rp. 107,526. The ICER of IUD-Injection is Rp. -987,951, and the IUD-Pill (Rp.9,200,000). Hence, oral contraceptive gave a good quality of life and is more cost-effective than contraceptive injection and IUDs. Abstract

Guava leaf extract is known to contain flavonoids, a class of flavone compounds that have very strong antioxidant activity. The antioxidant activity of guava leaf ethanol extract as measured by the DPPH method showed an IC50 value of 72 µg/ml. Body butter preparations have a better ability to nourish and maintain skin moisture because they contain high oil components. Cocoa butter and milk butter are the bases that are widely used in body butter formulas and are able to maintain skin health. This study aims to determine the area of optimum composition of the combination of cocoa butter and milk butter in body butter preparations of guava leaf ethanol extract (Psidium guajava L.). This study used a factorial design with two factors, namely cocoa butter and milk butter and two levels, namely 2% and 4% for cocoa butter and 2% and 15% for milk butter. The observed responses were pH and spreadibility with data analysis using Design Expert and SPSS software. Based on the results of the research, the optimum area for the combination of cocoa butter and milk butter with the pH equation is Y = 6.00000 – 1.77504(X1) – 4.73345 (X2) + 1.8336(X1X2) and the dispersion equation is Y = 3 ,77692+0,366667(X1) – 0,005128(X2) + 0.033333(X1X2). The optimal composition area of cocoa butter and milk butter has been validated on the combination of 3% cocoa butter and 8,5% milk butter.

Abstract

Pneumonia is a disease in Indonesia that has a high mortality rate in 2018. Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lungs caused by microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites). Pneumonia caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis is not included. While lung inflammation caused by non-microorganisms (chemicals, radiation, aspiration of toxic substances, drugs, etc.) is called pneumonitis. One of the treatment for pneumonia is antibiotics where the incidence of resistance in patients often occurs due to irrational use, therefore it needs to be monitored and evaluated by health workers. The purpose of this study was to determine the use of antibiotics in pneumonia patients at Bhayangkara Hospital Kupang with the Gyssens method according to the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No. 8 of 2015. The Gyssens method is an evaluation of the use of antibiotics to assess the accuracy of the use of antibiotics which includes the accuracy of indications, the accuracy of selection based on effectiveness, toxicity, price and spectrum, duration of administration, dose, interval, route and time of administration. The method used is non-experimental with a descriptive research design, the sample taken is 25 medical record data. The results of the research category 0 (precise and rational) were 84% or in other words the use of antibiotics was rational, category IVb (there were antibiotics that were less toxic) was 12% and in category IIb (inappropriate interval antibiotics) was 4%.

Abstract

Drying is one of the steps in making basil leaves simplicia. Drying is done to reduce the water content of simplicia. This study aims to determine the effect of the drying method on the water content of simplicia basil leaves. This research is an experimental post-test only group design. The basil leaves were dried using 2 methods, namely the direct sunlight method with a black cloth cover and the oven method at 50°C for 7 hours. The dried simplicia was then determined the water content using the gravimetric method. The water content data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test to determine the normality of the data, followed by the Independent T-test with a 95% confidence level. The results showed that the average moisture content of the drying method using the oven was 9,58±0.15% and the drying method using sunlight was 11,39±0.15%. These results indicate a significant difference (p≤0,05). This study concludes that different drying methods can affect the water content of basil leaves simplicia
