Abstract

Inflammation is a normal protective response to tissue injury caused by physical trauma, chemical damage, or microbiological substances. Banana stems (Musa paradisiaca L.) have been empirically believed for their topical anti-inflammatory properties. The purpose of this study was to scientifically evaluate the in vivo preclinical anti-inflammatory activity of banana stems. This research was designed experimentally using twenty-five albino male rats which were divided into five groups: the positive control group which received sodium diclofenac gel, the negative control group which received gel basis preparation without any active ingredient, and three experimental groups which received banana stem extract gel in three different concentrations, 5%, 10%, and 15%. Every five rats of every group were firstly injected with 1% of carrageenan, and the anti-inflammatory effect was evaluated every hour for 4 hours using a plethysmometer. The collected data were statistically evaluated. The results showed that banana stem extract gel with concentrations of 15% produced the best anti-inflammatory effect, compared to other gel concentrations. In conclusion, the preparation of 15% banana stem extract gel can be applied as potential topical anti-inflammatory preparation.

Abstract

Background: Chronic inflammation of the joints that occur in the condition of gout or osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis often causes repeated inflammation which requires patients to take a long-term pain medication, leading to serious side effects. Alternative treatment especially from herbal ingredients in a topical form is needed.Objective: This study aims to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activity of the leaves extract of Drymoglossum piloselloides (L) Presl. in mice to prove their potential as an anti-inflammatory agent.Methods: Mice were divided into four groups (n=7), namely positive control (sodium diclofenac emulgel), negative control (placebo), P1 (emulgel extract 2.5%), and P2 (emulgel extract 5%). The anti-inflammatory activity test was carried out on mice with carrageenan-induced paw edema by measuring the relative changes in the volume of inflammation at 0 and 3 hours after treatment. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests with a confidence level of 95%.Results: The emulgel contained flavonoids, triterpenoids, steroids, tannins, and quinones. The anti-inflammatory test showed a significant inhibition of inflammation (p <0.05) at concentrations of 2.5% and 5%. This anti-inflammatory activity could be influenced by the phytochemical compounds contained in the emulgel.Conclusion:Drymoglossum piloselloides (L) Presl. emulgel at concentrations of 2.5% and 5% had an anti-inflammatory activity on mice with carrageenan-induced paw edema.Keywords: inflammation, Drymoglossum piloselloides (L) Presl., emulgelIntisari Latar belakang: Peradangan kronis pada persendian dapat terjadi pada kondisi gout ataupun osteoartritis dan rheumatoid arthritis (RA) sering kali menimbulkan inflamasi berulang yang mengharuskan pasien mengkonsumsi obat nyeri atau anti-inflamasi nonsteroid dan kortikosteroid dalam waktu lama sehingga dapat menimbulkan efek samping yang serius, sehingga diperlukan alternatif pengobatan yang relatif lebih aman terutama dari bahan herbal dalam bentuk topikal. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji aktivitas antiinflamasi emulgel ekstrak daun paku sisik naga (Drymoglossum piloselloides (L) Presl.) pada mencit untuk membuktikan potensinya sebagai anti-inflamasi.Metode: Mencit dibagi empat kelompok (n=7) yaitu kontrol positif (emulgel natrium diklofenak), kontrol negatif (placebo), P1 (emulgel ekstrak konsentrasi 2,5%) dan P2 (emulgel ekstrak konsentrasi 5%). Selanjutnya dilakukan pengujian anti-inflamasi pada mencit paw edema yang diinduksi karagenan dengan mengukur perubahan volume peradangan kaki mencit pada jam ke-0 dan jam ke-3 setelah perlakuan. Data selanjutnya dianalisis menggunakan uji Kruskal-Wallis dan Mann-Whitney dengan taraf kepercayaan 95%.Hasil: Hasil uji aktivitas anti-inflamasi menunjukan adanya penghambatan peradangan yang signifikan (p<0,05) baik pada konsentrasi 2,5% maupun maupun 5% pada jam ke-3. Kesimpulan:Emulgel ekstrak daun paku sisik naga konsentrasi 2,5% dan 5% memiliki aktivitas anti-inflamasi pada paw edema mencit yang diinduksi karagenan.Kata kunci : inflamasi, Drymoglossum piloselloides (L) Presl., emulgel

Abstract

Leguminosae is widely known for its anti-inflammatory properties due to the presence of several beneficial phytochemicals, including alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, and saponins. Dadap (Erythrina subumbrans (Hassk.) Merr), a Leguminosae member, has empirically been used to treat inflammation. This research aimed to prove the anti-inflammatory effect of Dadap leaves scientifically. Dadap leaves were macerated in 96% ethanol to produced crude ethanol extract, followed by in vivo anti-inflammatory assay with the paw edema method. Three different doses of extract: 200, 300, and 400mg/kg BW, were administrated to Wistar rats to observed its ability in reducing carrageenan-induced inflammatory. All extract doses produced similar anti-inflammatory activity as compared to diclofenac sodium as a positive control. There is no significant difference among the three different doses. The results indicated that all treatment doses produced anti-inflammatory activity, but 200mg/kg BW administration was most efficient.

Abstract

One of the complications that occur due to diabetes mellitus (DM) is Diabetic Foot Ulcer (UKD). UKD is an incidence of injuries that occur on the feet of people with diabetes due to complications of microangiopathy and macroangiopathy which can cause disability and even death. This study aims to identify and document traditional medicine used by traditional healers in Bali to treat UKD. This research was conducted using a comparative qualitative descriptive method that compares the data obtained from in-depth interviews and questionnaires filling with literature. Data collection was carried out by in-depth interviews with BATTRA in Bali as informants who have competence in the field of traditional UKD medicine. Determination of informants in this study using snowball sampling technique. The results of the research were carried out from the data obtained by 8 (eight) sources and obtained 10 ingredients, consisting of 6 (six) ingredients used topically and 4 (four) ingredients used orally. The main ingredient used in topical ingredients is honey. Of the 10 ingredients, there are 15 types of medicinal plants used for the treatment of UKD. Most of the medicinal plants used are aloe vera, garlic, pepper, onion and sandalwood.

Abstract

Kasus hipertensi, diabet, stroke, penyakit Ginjal konis (PGK), Alzeimir setiap tahun meningkat dikarenakan jumlah kasus di Indonesia,terkait erat hubungannya dengan radikal bebas. Pentingnya pengetahuan masyarakat terhadap radikal bebas dan antioksidan alami yang banyak pada buah dan sayuran yang dapat dimanfaatkan alternatif sebagai upaya untuk mencegah radikal bebas bila dalam kondisi stress oksidatif, pilihan antiokidan alami menjadi alternatifnya, karena dari hasil peneltian pemakaian antioksida sintesis dilaporkan dapat memacu kanker, sehingga antioksidan alami yang terdapat dalam buah dan sayuran merupakan sumber yang bisa dimanfaatkan untuk mengurangi kerusakan sel akibat radikal bebas. Tujuan pengabdian adalah peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat tentang obat penyakit degeneratif alternatif obatnya dari herbal yang berkhasiat sebagai antioksidan dan cara pemanfaatanya. Metode Pengabdian di adakan secara virtual dengan pemberian materi secara daring. Peserta sebanyak 65 orang berasal dari mahasiswa beserta orang tua. Dari hasil survei pre dan post tes peserta menunjukkan partisipasi cukup bagus. Hali ini dibuktikan tingkat pengetahuan dan ketrampilan cara memanfaatkan. pada penyakit degenertif hasil post test lebih baik dari pada pre tes. Hasil pengabdian masyarakat secara daring peserta merasakan manfaat berupa peningkatan pengetahuan dan mampu menerapkan dalam keseharian pemanfaatan dengan baik dan benar tanaman yang banyak mengandung antioksidan sebagai pemeliharaan kesehatan terutama penyakit hipertensi dan hiperlipidemia.

Abstract

Penggunaan obat antiinflamasi non steroid (AINS) pada nyeri kronis dalam jangka waktu panjang dapat menimbulkan efek samping terutama gangguan pada saluran pencernaan sehingga diperlukan agen alternatif yang lebih aman terutama dari herbal. Dalam Usada Bali, salah satu tanaman yang digunakan untuk mengurangi nyeri adalah Liligundi (Vitex trifolia L.) famili Lamiaceae. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan aktivitas analgesik ekstrak daun Liligundi pada mencit. Daun Liligundi diekstraksi menggunakan pelarut alkohol 70% dilanjutkan dengan skrining fitokimia dan uji aktivitas analgesik menggunakan metode induksi panas (hot plate) suhu 55°C pada 20 ekor mencit yang terbagi menjadi empat kelompok, yaitu kelompok kontrol negatif diberikan Tween 80, kelompok kontrol positif diberikan Ibuprofen 52 mg/kg BB, dan perlakuan Ekstrak Daun Liligundi (EDL) dosis 250 mg/kg BB dan 500 mg/kg BB. Waktu respon nyeri pada mencit diukur pada menit ke-30 ditandai dengan gerakan melompat ataupun menjilat kaki setelah diletakkan diatas hot plate. Data dianalisis secaraOne Way ANOVA dilanjutkan dengan uji Tukey.Dari hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa EDL mengandung alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tanin dan terpenoid. EDL dosis 250 mg/kgBB dan 500 mg/kgBB mampu memperpanjang respon nyeri secara bermakna dibandingkan kontrol negatif dan menghasilkan waktu respon nyeri yang lebih panjang secara bermakna dibandingkan Ibuprofen (p<0.05).

Abstract

Lapas Perempuan Kelas IIA Denpasar adalah Lembaga Pemasyarakatan Perempuan Kelas IIA Denpasar, dengan kapasitas hunian 120 orang dan saat ini dihuni oleh 168 warga binaan pemasyarakatan. Warga binaan permasyarakatan tersebut adalah narapidana perempuan yang menghuni LAPAS Perempuan Kelas IIA Denpasar. Data yang teregistrasi saat ini warga binaan merupakan narapidana dari kasus narkotika, korupsi, kriminal, dan perlindungan anak. Lapas Perempuan Kelas IIA Denpasar dengan total warga binaan sebesar 168 narapidana memiliki potensi yang tinggi untuk pemberdayaan sumber daya manusia menjadi sumber daya manusia yang unggul, kreatif sehingga terwujud usaha mandiri dan ekonomi kreatif. Pelaksanaan kegiatan pembinaan pembuatan produk hand sanitizer dari bahan alam kepada warga binaan dilakukan dengan tujuan meningkatkan keterampilan usaha mandiri dan ekonomi kreatif warga binaan, merubah persepsi negatif masyarakat menjadi positif terhadap warga binaan.Tim pelaksana memfasilitasi terkait pelatihan dan pendampingan berkelanjutan selain di bidang produksi , juga dilanjutkan dengan pelatihan dan pendampingan berkelanjutan di bidang kewirausahaan

Abstract

Peel-off gel masks made from extracts of banana stem (Musa paradisiaca L.) and widuri flower (Calotropis gigantea L.) are natural cosmetic products that contain flavonoids, a secondary metabolite that acts as an antioxidant. The evaluation by consumers is important to understand the level of product acceptance and preference in the market. This study aims to evaluate consumer acceptance of peel-off gel masks made from banana stem and widuri flower extracts, using a quantitative descriptive survey. The sample was collected using an accidental sampling technique from panelists aged between 20 and 40 years old at Universitas Mahasaraswati Denpasar. The survey was conducted through a Google Form that contained questions about consumer preferences (hedonic test) for aroma, viscosity, texture, color, stickiness, and overall product. A total of 40 panelists participated in the hedonic test, while the irritation test was conducted on 9 panelists to observe the possibility of redness or itching reactions on the skin after use. The banana stems peel-off gel mask scored 21.1 in the hedonic test, while the widuri flower peel-off gel mask scored 20.3. The results indicate that the banana stem peel-off gel mask was accepted by 84.4% of the participants in the hedonic test, while the widuri flower peel-off gel mask was accepted by 81.5% of the participants. The irritation test results indicate that neither type of peel-off gel mask caused any irritation after use. Panelists preferred the banana stem peel-off gel mask over the widuri flower peel-off gel mask, with a score of 21.1 and a percentage of 84.4%. Both types of peel-off gel masks are safe to use.

Abstract

Tujuan kegiatan pelatihan ini untuk memberdayakan warga binaan Lapas Perempuan Kelas IIA Denpasar agar memiliki keahlian sebagai bekal berwirausaha untuk meningkatkan produktivitas dan ekonomi selepas masa tahanan, disamping untuk menumbuhkan rasa percaya diri. Kegiatan pelatihan ini juga merupakan upaya diseminasi hasil penelitian tim dosen kepada mitra binaan, yang dalam hal ini ditujukan kepada warga binaan Lapas Perempuan Kelas IIA Denpasar. Metode yang digunakan dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan ini adalah dengan memberikan pengetahuan dan pelatihan keterampilan. Pengetahuan yang diberikan dalam bentuk penyuluhan manfaat farmakologi secara empiris maupun saintifik dari tanaman pisang secara umum maupun mengkhusus pada bagian batang pisang. Pengetahuan tambahan juga diberikan berupa strategi pemasaran produk sediaan herbal. Pelatihan keterampilan diberikan kepada warga binaan dalam bentuk pelatihan mengolah batang pisang menjadi produk sedian teh herbal dari proses awal berupa bahan segar, pembuatan simplisia batang pisang, pencampuran simplisia batang pisang dengan simplisia tambahan (daun mint dan daun stevia) sebagai komposisi teh, sampai dengan pengemasannya. Kegiatan ini dimonitoring dan dievaluasi dengan mengacu kepada keberhasilan warga binaan membuat produk herbal sediaan teh batang pisang, yangmana produk hasil karya warga binaan tersebut dipasarkan di lingkungan internal Kantor Wilayah Kementerian Hukum dan HAM Denpasar. Kata kunci— Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat, Lapas Perempuan, Teh Herbal Abstract The aim of this training activity is to empower the inmates of the Denpasar Class IIA Women's Prison to have skills to prepare for entrepreneurship to increase productivity and the economy after prison, in addition to growing self-confidence. This training activity is also an effort to disseminate the research results of the lecturer team to partners, which in this case is aimed at residents of the Class IIA Denpasar Women's Prison. The method used in implementing this activity is to provide knowledge and skills training. The knowledge provided is in the form of counseling on the empirical and scientific benefits of pharmacology of banana plants in general and specifically on the banana stem. Additional knowledge is also provided in the form of marketing strategies for herbal preparation products. Skills training is given to inmates in the form of training in processing banana stems into herbal tea products from the initial process in the form of fresh ingredients, making banana stem simplicia, mixing banana stem simplicia with additional simplicia (mint leaves and stevia leaves) as a tea composition, up to packaging. This activity is monitored and evaluated with reference to the success of the inmates in making herbal products made from banana stem tea. Keywords— Community Services, Women’s Prison, Herbal Tea

Abstract

Infectious diseases are still a health problem throughout the world, including in Indonesia. One cause of infection that needs to be watched out for is resistance to Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteria. Continuous use of antibiotics can cause problems with microbial resistance. Indonesia has various plant species that can actually provide benefits but have not been specifically cultivated. Jeruju leaves (Achanthus ilicifolius) from mangrove plants contain bioactive compounds that have the potential to be antibacterial. The aim of this research is to determine the antibacterial activity of Jeruju leaf decoction and infusion against MRSA bacteria. Antibacterial activity testing uses MRSA bacteria. The results of the phytochemical screening of Jeruju leaf infusion contained secondary metabolite compounds in the form of flavonoids, tannins, saponins and quinones. Meanwhile, the results of the phytochemical screening of Jeruju leaf decoction contained secondary metabolites in the form of tannins, saponins and quinones. Based on the results of research conducted on infusions and decoctions of Jeruju leaves at concentrations of 30%, 60% and 90%, they did not have inhibitory power on the antibacterial activity of MRSA, as seen from the inhibition zone. Zero inhibition zone for MRSA bacteria. It can be concluded that the infusion and decoction of Jeruju (Achantus illicifolious) leaves do not have antibacterial activity against MRSA.
