Abstract

Misconceptions that occur continuously and protracted can interfere with the learning process. Therefore, educators must be able to identify precisely the misconceptions that occur. This research was conducted to find out the implementation of four-tier diagnostic tests in analyzing the misconceptions of students in high school in North Aceh regency and understand the results of analysis of the comprehension level of learners' concepts, whether they Scientific conception, Lack of knowledge, and misconception. Four-tier diagnostic test instrument has been developed by adapting 4D models (Define, Design, Development and Disseminate). Through these steps, the four-tier diagnostic test instrument is produced that is valid through content validation with content-validity coefficient of 0.89 and an average aspect of 4.5 and includes an excellent category. On average, the overall profile of learners got 44.47% who Scientific conception, 44.03% Lack of knowledge and 11.50% who experienced misconceptions in acids and bases materials. The implication of this study is that educators can analyze scientific conception, lack of knowledge and misconceptions on acids and bases materials in learners, and use suitable learning methods so that the misconception is not repeated.

Abstract

A picture is considered to have a significant role in facilitating the students' English learning. Thus, understanding the picture represented in an EFL textbook considered one of the sources through which the students learn the English materials is crucial. Nevertheless, to the best of the writers' knowledge, few studies investigating the interrelations between visual and verbal text focusing on the learning material of acrostic poems were found. Thereby, this study aimed to scrutinise the interrelations of the visual-verbal text concerning acrostic poems. To that end, a qualitative research method using Systemic Functional Multimodal Discourse Analysis (SF-MDA) was employed to investigate the analysis units, i.e., the acrostic poems included the images of a primary level EFL textbook. Besides, analysis units were investigated based on the relative status and logico-semantics relations and grammar of visual design deriving from systemic functional linguistics. The findings revealed that the visual image could be construed through ideational, interpersonal, and textual/compositional meanings. Besides, there are some interrelations in a certain extent and fashions between the pictures and the verbal text, indicated by the relative status and logico-semantics comprising independent and complimentary equal status with exposition, exemplification, and extension. In summary, the trinocular meanings, i.e. ideational, interpersonal, and compositional meanings, along with the interactions between the visual image and verbal texts, the pictures are considered to have significant roles in assisting the readers/viewers in understanding the poems due to such an interaction built by the images and verbal texts exist.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the use of integrated blended learning on multiple intelligences (multiple intelligence) and student character education during the COVID-19 period. This type of research is a meta-analysis research. The research sample came from a search of 21 national and international journals. Search articles through databases sourced from Google Scholar, Eric, IEEE, Science Director and Wiley. The sample selection technique is purposive sampling technique. The data sampled relates to the use of Blended Learning, Multiple Intelligence and character education. Data analysis used quantitative data analysis techniques by conducting effect size and N-Gain tests using JASP software version 26. The results showed that the use of STEM integrated blended learning was effective in increasing students' multiple intelligence with an average value of 76.25 and student character education of 75 with the value of effect size (ES) is 0.44 and the N-Gain is 0.65 category medium.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze data related to the application of collaborative learning based on lesson study on science learning achievement of elementary school students during the implementation of PPKM Level 3 in the Pandemic Covid-19 situation. The research method used was True Experiment Design which was analyzed with a quantitative approach. Based on the sampling technique used, namely simple random sampling, 30 students were assigned as research samples which were then divided into two small classes, namely class A (experimental class) and class B (control class). To assist the smooth running of the research, an observation sheet instrument was used (Plan, Do, and See). The results showed that the implementation of lesson study based learning was carried out with a very good assessment. As presented in the Plan Phase, Do Phase and See Phase, respectively from Meeting I (73.48%), Meeting II (75.83%), Meeting III (85.42%), and Meeting IV (92.55 %). From these findings, it also affects the increase in science learning achievement with a significant level of influence, namely 94%.

Abstract

The inclusion of information and communication technology is a requirement in today’s education.  During the COVID-19 outbreak, this necessity becomes more significant since we need to move from face-to-face to online classrooms. This article aims to explore English teachers’ perception and use of technology during the COVID-19 pandemic. Twenty-two English teachers in South Kalimantan voluntarily joined this research. Questionnaire and interview are two main instruments to collect the data. The questionnaire explored their perceptions on how technology helped them in improving the learning quality during remote teaching. Then, the interview is intended to deepen the data regarding the information given by the participants. The findings reveal that most English teacher's had positive attitudes toward the use of technology to improve the quality of learning. In addition, the condition of COVID-19 made them learn to use various digital tools to teach English. Some challenges and recommendations are discussed.

Abstract

It is pivotal for English for Specific Purposes (ESP) teachers to conduct need analysis before they start to teach ESP students. It is required to portray the needs of the ESP students to learn English to fit with their real life. That is why ESP teachers have to be able to support the student with a fit module, instructions, and many other aspects for the effectiveness and the success of ESP course. This study aims to discover what the students need to gain after learning English and what environment and learning materials can boost their motivation to learn English. This research used quantitative research method in which the researchers administer a questionnaire to the participants of the study. The questionnaire consisted of two categorizes, namely Learning Need Analysis (LNA) and Target Situation Analysis (TSA) that is adapted and modified from (Hutchinson, T. & Waters, 1987).  The respondents of the study were 66 first-year students of the Management program. The findings divide into 6 parts. There were students' (1) Goal (2) Competence (3) Problem (4) Expectation (5) Preferred learning activities (6) Preferred classroom setting. The results need to be considered to improve the students’ learning environment and receive proper material designated for their major. It can also enhance their awareness of the importance of English for their future career as they still lack motivation.

Abstract

This research aims to develop the existing reading handbook that is related to the students' needs and students’ English proficiency at Balikpapan State Polytechnic. The research method used research and development (R & D) for developing a supplementary existing reading handbook based on TOEIC. The R & D study is divided into 2 stages: (1) exploration stage, consisting of library research, document analysis, and needs analysis. Based on the findings of the exploration stage, it can be concluded that: (a) the students have difficulty in analyzing the question pattern of completion and error recognition; (b) the students do not master the vocabularies of TOEIC reading comprehension ;(c) the students do not familiar with the context of TOEIC reading text; (d) the students have difficulty to analyze the pattern of TOEIC reading comprehension question; and (2) development stage, consisting of numerous steps aimed at designing  the supplementary existingreading handbook based on TOEIC : (a) designing prototype based on the result of exploration stage; (b) experts’ validation; (c) trying out the prototype; (d) final revision. The result shows that supplementary existing reading handbook based on TOEIC can help the students increase their TOEIC reading score and useful in their job field.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the design of learning based on Schoology and Zoom Meeting. In the final stage, the effectiveness of using e-learning will be known.Learning during the COVID-19 pandemic makes students less motivated to study. Most students choose to do face-to-face learning compared to online. These problems certainly make lecturers have to think creatively in delivering teaching materials to their students. The learning design by mixing and matching the Schoology and Zoom Meeting platforms is one of the innovations of learning media in the COVID-19 pandemic situation. The design of learning media is carried out in the lesson planning course, because it is one of the courses that must be mastered by prospective students of Cultural Arts teachers. This design is expected to make students focus on receiving teaching materials so they can apply them in future work. The results of this study are able to describe the learning design of the Learning Planning subject based on e-learning Scchoology and Zoom Meeting.
