Abstract

Vitamin E acetate has antioxidant activity that can prevent premature aging of the skin, but its nature is very lipophilic (log p±12.2) and has the potential to degrade. To overcome the problems of permeability and stability, vitamin E acetate needs to be developed in Nanostructured Lipid Carrier (NLC), which is a nano delivery system based on solid lipids and liquid lipids stabilized by surfactants as a colloidal system. The formulation of vitamin E acetate into NLC was carried out using the heat homogenization method, then sonicated using a probe sonicator. The materials used were 2% vitamin E acetate, 2-6% Compritol® and Precirol® solid lipids, 1% Myritol®, and 1-3% Chremophore and Plantacare® surfactants. The NLC results were then characterized by measuring particle size, zeta potential, polydispersity index, entrapment efficiency, and morphology. The characterization results showed that NLC vitamin E acetate had a particle size of 280-375 nm, a zeta potential of -23 mV to -28 mV, a polydispersity index <0.5, an entrapment efficiency of 92-97%, and a spherical morphology. The results showed that Nanostructured Lipid Carrier vitamin E acetate gave good results.

Abstract

This study aimed to compare serum levels of Insulin-like Growth Factor-1 in children with malnutrition and good nutritional status. This cross-sectional study included 41 participants consisting of 31 malnourished, 10 well-nourished children, aged between 36-60 months. Demographic data of participants were obtained by means of a questionnaire. Nutritional status was determined by calculating the Z-score of body weight for age, height for age and body weight for height indices using the WHO classification. IGF-1 levels were determined by Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) method. Median serum IGF-1 levels in malnourished children were found to be lower i.e. 1.75 ng/mL (minimum-maximum: 0.97-85.97) compared to well-nourished children 101.81 ng/mL (minimum-maximum: 1.23-158.12).

Abstract

Miscarriage is one of the major reproductive health problems that contribute to maternal morbidity and mortality in Indonesia. This study aims to explore the relationship between prenatal check-ups, medical measurements, and the risk of miscarriage in women who have experienced pregnancy. Using data from the Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) 2014-2015, this study involved 14,952 female respondents. Multivariate analysis showed that age, hemoglobin test, fetal height measurement, blood pressure measurement, tetanus toxoid (TT) injection, and iron supplementation significantly affected the risk of miscarriage (p < 0.05). The main findings of this study were the age, Hb test, fetal height examination, pelvic examination, weighing, height measurement, blood pressure measurement, administration of TT injections, and administration of iron pills associated with miscarriages among experienced pregnant women. However, limited access to health services and low levels of education about the importance of early pregnancy check-ups remain significant challenges, especially in rural areas. This study recommends increasing public awareness, education, and access to reproductive health services as an effort to reduce miscarriage rates in Indonesia.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by increased fasting blood glucose. The purpose of this studyto analyze the relationship between nutrient intake, nutritional status and physical activity with blood sugar levels. This research design usescross-sectionalwith a total of 42 respondents. Data on fiber and cholesterol intake usingSQ FFQ. Waist circumference data measured with a measuring tape with an accuracy of 0.1 cm and physical activity data measured using the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE). Fasting blood glucose levels were measured using hexokinase. There was a significant relationship between fiber intake (p=0.001), cholesterol intake (p=0.006), and physical activity (0.014) to the increase in fasting blood glucose. However, waist circumference did not have a significant relationship to the increase in fasting blood glucose (p=0.895). Increased blood glucose was related to fiber intake, cholesterol intake, and physical activity, while waist circumference was not significantly related in the prolanis participants of Kedaton Health Center.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and dysmenorrhea pain scale in female adolescents at SMP Nurul Jadid, Paiton District. Dysmenorrhea is one of the common complaints in female adolescents that often affects daily activities and academic achievement. BMI, which is an indicator of a person's nutritional status, is thought to be related to the severity of dysmenorrhea pain. By understanding this relationship, it is hoped that more effective treatment strategies can be developed to reduce dysmenorrhea pain based on the individual's physical condition. This study used an observational analytical method with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 174 female adolescents who were randomly selected from SMP Nurul Jadid. Data collection was carried out through BMI measurements and dysmenorrhea pain scale questionnaires filled out by respondents. Data analysis was carried out using the Pearson correlation test to determine the relationship between BMI and dysmenorrhea pain scale. The results showed a significant negative correlation between BMI and dysmenorrhea pain scale in female adolescents (-698, p < 0.01). This indicates that the lower a person's BMI, the higher the level of dysmenorrhea pain experienced. Discussion of these results suggests that adolescent girls with higher BMI may experience increased levels of the hormone prostaglandin, which can increase the intensity of menstrual pain. In addition, lifestyle factors and dietary habits also have the potential to influence the relationship between BMI and dysmenorrhea pain. The conclusion of this study is that there is a negative relationship between BMI and the scale of dysmenorrhea pain in adolescent girls at SMP Nurul Jadid. This study suggests the need for special attention to nutritional status and healthy lifestyles to reduce dysmenorrhea pain in adolescent girls. Education on dysmenorrhea management involving lifestyle changes and weight management may be an effective step to help adolescents cope with dysmenorrhea better.

Abstract

A successful development across various sectors, particularly in healthcare, results in a rise in life expectancy worldwide, including in Indonesia. Referring to the health perspective, the elderly population may naturally experience a decline in health or as a result of diseases. One of the health issues encountered by the elderly is diabetes mellitus, a chronic non-communicable degenerative disease caused by insulin secretion abnormalities. In this case, family support is essential for improving the quality of life of the elderly patients with diabetes mellitus. This study investigates the various dimensions of family support as caregivers that are most associated with the quality of life of elderly diabetes mellitus patients at the IRJ RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan. This cross-sectional study involves a sample of 80 elderly diabetes mellitus patients, selected using a non-probability sampling technique. Both primary and secondary data serve in data collection, which are then processed using a logistic regression test. The results of multivariate statistical analysis reveal that the family support dimensions are associated with the quality of life of elderly diabetes mellitus patients in the IRJ RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan encompasses the appreciation dimension (p = 0.000) demonstrated by OR = 11.087, followed by the emotional dimension (p = 0.008), and instrumental dimension (p = 0.010). On the other hand, the informative dimension (p = 0.077) is not associated. Conclusion: There is a considerable correlation between family support as caregivers and the quality of life of elderly diabetes mellitus patients at the IRJ RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan.

Abstract

Preventing the spread of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) in Serdang Bedagai Regency in 2024 requires a collaborative governance approach involving various stakeholders. Based on the Global TB Report 2023, Indonesia ranks second in the world in the number of TB cases, with an estimated 1,060,000 new cases and 134,000 deaths per year (Kork et al., 2021). TB prevention efforts must involve the health and non-health sectors simultaneously, with the aim of finding and treating all TB cases until cured. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques through interviews and literature studies, involving informants from various government agencies and community organizations. The results of the study show that there are three main elements in collaborative governance: principled engagement, shared motivation, and capacity for joint action. Principled engagement includes open and inclusive communication between stakeholders, while shared motivation is characterized by mutual trust and understanding between actors. The capacity for joint action involves procedures, leadership, knowledge, and resources coordinated by the local government. This study emphasizes the importance of cross-sector collaboration to achieve TB elimination in Indonesia by 2030.
