Abstract

The transformation of learning time management through the five-day school policy has become an important discourse in the Indonesian education system. This policy aims to improve learning effectiveness and provide broader opportunities for students’ character development. However, the implementation of such policy requires a comprehensive study that considers the readiness of various stakeholders and the socio-economic conditions of the community. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of the five-day school policy discourse in Pematangsiantar City and to identify factors influencing the readiness of schools, teachers, students, and parents in responding to changes in the learning time system. This research employs a qualitative approach using descriptive analysis of educational data, socio-economic conditions of the community, and stakeholder responses toward the policy. The findings indicate that the implementation of the five-day school system in Pematangsiantar has not been evenly adopted because the policy is not mandatory for all educational institutions. Furthermore, teacher readiness, socio-economic conditions of students’ families, transportation accessibility, and school infrastructure readiness are significant factors affecting the effectiveness of policy implementation. The study also reveals that changes in the learning time system potentially generate multidimensional impacts on educational, social, and economic aspects of society. Therefore, a more comprehensive policy analysis using a transdisciplinary approach is required before implementing the policy more broadly.

Abstract

Urban overheating and outdoor thermal discomfort have become critical challenges in rapidly urbanizing tropical cities, significantly reducing the environmental quality, usability, and livability of public spaces. Despite the growing emphasis on climate-responsive and performance-based urban design, the integration of environmental simulation into urban design education and spatial decision-making processes remains limited. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a simulation-informed urban design learning model in improving both design quality and outdoor thermal comfort performance. A quasi-experimental approach was employed within an urban design studio involving 40 architecture students divided into control and experimental groups. The experimental group applied a simulation-informed workflow using ENVI-met and Ladybug Tools, while the control group followed conventional urban design methods. Design quality was evaluated through spatial organization, public-space quality, climate responsiveness, vegetation integration, and design coherence. The results demonstrate that the experimental group achieved a 39.6% improvement in overall design quality, with the highest increase observed in climate responsiveness (60.7%). In terms of thermal performance, the simulation-informed approach reduced air temperature by 4.3°C and MRT by 9.5°C, while increasing shading coverage by 30%. Statistical analysis confirms that the differences between groups are significant (p < 0.05). The findings indicate that environmental simulation substantially enhances spatial responsiveness and thermal performance by enabling iterative and evidence-based design decisions. This study contributes to performance-based urban design and architectural pedagogy by establishing a quantitative relationship between microclimate simulation,

Abstract

This study examines the advantages and disadvantages of using deep learning technology in the analysis of student cognition. This study employs a literature review method with a descriptive analytical approach, which is used to analyse the data. Deep learning technology utilises neural networks and CNNs; this technology offers several advantages, such as the ability to accurately and immediately detect students’ cognitive patterns in line with adaptive learning activities, and to reduce the risk of learning failure, thereby enabling deep learning to enhance students’ knowledge retention. The disadvantages of using deep learning include the need for large, robust, and highquality datasets and networks; high hardware and software costs; the requirement for powerful networks; a lack of transparency (‘black box’); and the risk of student data privacy breaches due to hacker attacks. This research makes a methodological contribution through an efficient descriptive analytical approach based on literature review, which is suitable for research with limited access to empirical data, as well as a risk evaluation model. In terms of policy, the findings encourage advocacy for a national digital education infrastructure, contributing to the equitable distribution of access to AI technology in regional educational institutions. This research enriches the edutech discourse with an Indonesian contextual perspective, opening up opportunities for further research such as field trials.

Abstract

This study aims to examine religious moderation education from the perspective of educational philosophy at Roudlatul Qur'an Islamic Boarding School in Metro, Lampung. The background of this research is the increasing prevalence of religious radicalism and socio-religious conflicts in Indonesia, as well as the suboptimal implementation of religious moderation in Islamic boarding schools. This study employs an interpretative qualitative approach with a field research design. The research subjects include the boarding school leader, teachers, and students. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data validity was ensured through triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model: data condensation, data display, and verification. The findings indicate that religious moderation education in this Islamic boarding school holds high urgency as a response to the complexity of contemporary religious life. Its implementation encompasses planning, execution, and evaluation, centered on the selection of moderate educators, wasathiyyah-based materials, and open learning methods. The philosophical construction integrates three pillars: values (derived from the Qur'an), processes (progressive), and objectives (pragmatic), while remaining grounded in Pancasila and maqasid al-shariah. This model is conceptualized as progressive, pragmatic, and religiously moderate education

Abstract

The integration of local wisdom in English learning in Jayapura Regency is not optimal due to the gap between teachers' theoretical knowledge and practical skills in developing teaching materials. Factors that influence this are geographical constraints, the lack of written cultural references, and time constraints due to administrative burdens. This study aims to improve teachers' competence in developing teaching materials based on local wisdom through the Hyflex Participatory Workshop. Using the Stringer (Look, Think, Act) School Action Research method in two cycles, the study involved 35 MGMP English teachers in Jayapura Regency as subjects. This study design used a mixed method approach. Data were collected through tests, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using inferential and descriptive statistics. The results showed that active participation of participants increased from 75% in Cycle I to 95% in Cycle II after optimizing hyflex learning (hybrid synchronous, online synchronous, and online asynchronous) with the help of valid and practical LMS and Flipbook guides. Teacher competence increased with an average score rising from 90.7 (pre-test) to 98.4 (post-test) and classical completeness reaching 100%. There was a significant difference in the pre-test and post-test averages based on the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test with a Sig. 0.001 (<p=0.05). The action was proven effective in improving teacher competence as evidenced by an N-Gain score of 0.88 (g>0.7). This study resulted in an integrated digital teaching material bank. It was concluded that Hyflex flexibility and participatory collaboration effectively overcome technical and epistemological barriers for teachers in the English MGMP in Jayapura Regency.

Abstract

The rapid diffusion of digital technologies and the imperative of sustainable economic development converge to place unprecedented demands on aspiring entrepreneurs. The cognitive and psychological pathways through which individuals translate technological competence and psychological hardiness into a firm commitment to sustainable venturing remain underexplored, particularly in cross-national ASEAN settings. This study examines how digital capability and psychological hardiness jointly shape sustainable entrepreneurial intention, with hardipreneurial self-efficacy as mediator and institutional support as moderator. Grounded in Social Cognitive Theory (Bandura, 1997; 2023) and applying PLS-SEM on N = 300 students across Indonesia and Malaysia, the findings confirm all six hypotheses. Digital capability and psychological hardiness each significantly influence hardipreneurial self-efficacy, which fully mediates both pathways to sustainable entrepreneurial intention, while institutional support significantly amplifies the efficacy–intention link. These findings advance sustainable entrepreneurship theory and generate actionable policy implications for university ecosystems and SDG-aligned entrepreneurship programs in ASEAN.

Abstract

Listening remains one of the most challenging skills in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning, particularly at the tertiary level, where learners are required to construct meaning beyond surface-level linguistic recognition. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of needs-based listening materials in enhancing students’ comprehension and engagement. A mixed-methods sequential design was employed, integrating quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data were collected through pre-test and post-test measures and analyzed using a paired sample t-test, while qualitative data were obtained through classroom observations and interviews to examine students’ engagement and learning experiences. The findings reveal a statistically significant improvement in students’ listening performance, with mean scores increasing from 58.40 to 72.85 (p < 0.05) and a large effect size. This improvement reflects substantial development in macro listening skills, particularly in identifying main ideas and constructing overall meaning. These quantitative results are further supported by qualitative evidence indicating high levels of student engagement, as demonstrated by active participation (82%), sustained attention (85%), and increased learning motivation (81%). The findings suggest that needs-based materials provide more relevant and accessible input, thereby facilitating both cognitive and affective engagement in the listening process. This study contributes to the literature by integrating needs analysis with a specific focus on macro listening skills within a mixed-methods framework. It not only demonstrates the effectiveness of instructional materials quantitatively but also elucidates the underlying mechanisms of learning improvement qualitatively. The study offers important pedagogical implications for designing contextually relevant and learner-centered listening materials in EFL higher education contexts

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that requires a holistic approach to its management. Kampar Regency, with 89.12% of its population being Muslim, has successfully reduced the prevalence of stunting from 1,300 children to 571 children through the integration of Islamic religious education values in its prevention programs. This study aims to describe the implementation process of Islamic religious education values in stunting prevention programs in Kampar Regency, identify inhibiting factors in implementing Islamic religious education values, and propose strategies to overcome barriers in implementing Islamic religious education values in stunting prevention programs. The research used a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews with 6 key informants, observations of 5 stunting prevention programs namely Gadih Ancak, Ocu Mapan, Gemarikan, Mobile Posyandu, and BAAS, as well as documentation. Data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model with stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The implementation of Islamic religious education values was manifested through three main dimensions: aqidah values that teach that maintaining children's health is Allah's trust, sharia values that apply the concept of halal-thayyib in providing nutritious food, and akhlaq values that form social solidarity through the BAAS program. The religious approach increased community participation from 60-70% to 85-90%. Inhibiting factors include limited religious understanding among health workers, differences of opinion among religious scholars, and the absence of formal regulations. Strategies to overcome barriers include cross-sector training for human resources, strengthening cross-sector coordination, developing formal regulations, and standardizing health da'wah materials. The integration of Islamic religious education values has proven effective in increasing community motivation and participation in stunting prevention programs. The Kampar Regency model can serve as a reference for best practices with improvements in formalization and standardization aspects.
