Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of audio-visual based Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning strategy and its effectiveness in improving student learning outcomes at a public elementary school in Sungai Ulu. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings reveal that the strategy was implemented through a structured pedagogical cycle consisting of pre-lesson media preparation, facilitated active viewing via projector, and post-viewing reflective discussion, applied consistently across PAI topics including Quranic letter recognition and inspirational Islamic narratives. The strategy produced significant improvements in student learning outcomes at cognitive, affective, and participatory levels. Three factors were identified as primary drivers of effectiveness: curriculum-aligned content selection, the teacher's active facilitation competency, and consistency of implementation. Critically, this study demonstrates that teacher pedagogical agency, rather than institutional infrastructure, is the most decisive determinant of audio-visual learning success in resource-constrained rural settings. These findings contribute field-validated evidence supporting SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), affirming that inclusive and effective PAI instruction is achievable across underserved educational contexts in Indonesia.

Abstract

Science literacy remains a critical competency for elementary school students in the 21st century, yet its development continues to face significant challenges in Indonesian educational contexts. This literature review examines the theoretical foundations and empirical evidence supporting the development of an ethnoscience-based electronic flipbook (e-flipbook) to enhance science literacy among Grade 4 elementary school students. The review systematically analyzes relevant literature on four interconnected themes: science literacy in elementary education, ethnoscience as a culturally responsive approach in science learning, e-flipbook as an interactive digital learning medium, and the integration of local wisdom into primary school science curricula. Findings reveal that ethnoscience-based learning effectively bridges indigenous cultural knowledge with formal scientific concepts, making abstract science content more contextual and meaningful for students. Furthermore, the integration of digital interactive media such as e-flipbooks has consistently demonstrated improvements in student engagement, motivation, and conceptual understanding across multiple studies. The Kampung Kue Rungkut context in Surabaya presents a rich ethnoscience source, particularly regarding the concept of matter state changes embedded in traditional cake-making practices. This review concludes that the development of an e-flipbook grounded in the ethnoscience context of Kampung Kue Rungkut holds strong potential as an innovative and effective instructional medium for building science literacy competencies among Grade 4 students. Implications for curriculum development and future research directions are discussed.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of visual media as a learning resource in Civic Education (PPKn) instruction in elementary schools and to examine its implications for learning interaction patterns and student engagement in fostering democratic learning. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation at five elementary schools in Bunta Subdistrict. Informants included school principals, teachers, and students. Data analysis utilized the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña interactive model with source triangulation and. The results indicate that visual media have been consistently used and are effective in enhancing students’ attention and initial understanding. However, their utilization remains instrumental, serving primarily as a tool for conveying information. Learning interaction patterns remain teacher-dominated, so student engagement has not yet evolved into active, dialogic, and reflective participation in Civic Education (PPKn) learning. The novelty of this study lies in the reconstruction of the role of visual media as a source of democratic learning, not merely as a visual aid. This study develops the perspective that visual media can function as a catalyst for interaction, reflection on values, and the formation of students’ civic experiences in Civic Education (PPKn) learning in elementary schools

Abstract

This study aims to develop a moral loving-based co-curricular module to strengthen character education for elementary school students. The method used is Research and Development (R&D) employing the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The study was conducted at two elementary schools in Bulango Selatan Subdistrict, Gorontalo, with fifth-grade students as the subjects. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining qualitative data from observations and interviews with quantitative data from validation results, practicality tests, and effectiveness tests using a pretest-posttest design. The results of the study indicate that students’ initial character traits were still low, particularly in the aspects of empathy and self-control. The developed module underwent a validation process by experts in curriculum, content, language, and end-users, receiving ratings of “highly suitable” and “practical.” The implementation of the module demonstrated a significant improvement in student character, both quantitatively and qualitatively, marked by increased self-confidence, empathy, honesty, and the ability to control emotions. This study concludes that character education will be more effective if designed as a systematic, experience-based process that integrates action and reflection. Moral loving-based co-curricular modules can serve as an implementational tool that bridges the gap between character education policies and learning practices in schools, and have the potential to support the continuous strengthening of student character through co-curricular activities

Abstract

This study examines the importance of reactualizing the value of social justice as an ethical guideline in political behavior in Indonesia. Social justice, as contained in the fifth principle of Pancasila, should serve as a fundamental principle that guides every policy and political action in order to create an equal, prosperous, and civilized society. However, in reality, political practices in Indonesia are still largely characterized by corruption, nepotism, and weak leadership ethics, which hinder the achievement of these goals. This study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method to analyze the concepts of social justice and political ethics, as well as the relationship between the two in strengthening substantive democracy. The discussion focuses on the challenges faced in implementing the value of social justice, as well as strategies for its reactualization through political education, law enforcement, and the strengthening of public participation. The results of the analysis show that the reactualization of the value of social justice is essential to improving deviant political behavior and realizing a system of governance that is more just, transparent, and civilized.
