Abstract

The Hajat Sasih tradition in Kampung Adat Naga, Tasikmalaya, is a series of annual ceremonies that reflect the harmony between Islamic teachings, Sundanese local wisdom, and ancestral cosmology. This study aims to describe the form, meaning, and socio-spiritual values of six rituals Muharaman, Rajaban, Ruwah, Nisfu Sya'ban, Idul Fitri, and Idul Adha while also examining customary prohibitions (pamali) as cultural preservation mechanisms. Using a qualitative ethnographic approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with caretakers, traditional leaders, and residents, supported by documentation of sacred spaces, the forbidden forest, and ritual practices. The findings indicate that Hajat Sasih carries both spiritual and social functions: expressing gratitude, seeking protection, and strengthening communal cohesion. Customary prohibitions, such as avoiding stretching one’s legs toward the qibla, maintaining the leuweung larangan, and prohibiting photography of Bumi Ageng, serve to protect the sanctity of space and uphold adat values. These practices demonstrate how the community preserves cultural identity amid modern changes through rituals, taboo systems, and inherited knowledge. This research contributes to cultural anthropology and indigenous heritage studies, enriching discussions on the integration of religious and customary traditions in contemporary Sundanese society.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between self-esteem and the fear of missing out (FOMO) among adolescents who actively use social media, focusing specifically on tenth-grade students at SMAN 3 Jombang. Growing concerns regarding FOMO among teenagers highlight the need to investigate psychological factors that may contribute to its emergence. Employing a quantitative correlational design, the study involved 108 participants selected through purposive sampling. Two standardized psychological scales were utilized to measure levels of self-esteem and FOMO. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality test and Spearman correlation analysis. The findings reveal no significant relationship between the two variables, as reflected by a correlation coefficient of –0,107 and a significance value of 0,272. These results indicate that self-esteem does not serve as a primary predictor of FOMO among adolescents. The study concludes that other psychological or social factors may play a more prominent role in shaping FOMO within this population. Future research is encouraged to explore additional variables such as social comparison, emotional regulation, patterns of social media use, and potential mediating or moderating mechanisms to provide a more comprehensive understanding of FOMO among adolescents.

Abstract

Based on tracer study data from SMKN 1 Gempol, 62.8% (349 out of 557) students have not yet entered the workforce. Hesitation and the lack of digital guidance and counseling media pose career challenges. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Lumio media on students' career self-efficacy and career decision-making. The research used a quantitative quasi-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. Purposive sampling was used. Data analysis used paired t-tests, ANOVA, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Tests at a significance level of 0.05. The results of the study in the experimental class showed that the average CSE score increased from 73.90 (pretest) to 84.40 (posttest) with a paired t-test result of Sig. <0.001 and a Cohen's d effect size of 1.34 (large category). The average PKK score also increased from 73.50 to 81.83 with Sig. < 0.001 and effect size Cohen's d = 0.74 (moderate category). In contrast, in the control class, the increase in CSE was not significant (Sig. = 0.326), while PKK showed significant (Sig. < 0.001). The results of the ANOVA test showed a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class (Sig. < 0.001). The results of the Pearson correlation test showed a positive and significant relationship between CSE and PKK in the experimental class with a value of r = 0.700 (Sig, < 0.001). It can be concluded that lumio media is effective in improving students' CSE and PKK.

Abstract

Today's teenagers are experiencing difficulties in making career decisions, as evidenced by their confusion in determining their future career choices. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-determination and self-efficacy with career decision-making among 12th grade students at SMK Negeri 9 Semarang. This study used a correlational quantitative design with data collection techniques using the career decision-making scale (Tiedeman & O'Hara), self-determination scale (Ryan & Deci), and self-efficacy scale (Bandura) with a Likert model. The population consisted of 351 students and the sample consisted of 187 students using probability sampling with proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The validity and reliability test results for the career decision-making instrument (0.904), self-determination (0.832), and self-efficacy (0.881) were declared valid and reliable. The data analysis technique used multiple linear regression. Self-determination influenced career decision-making with a significance value of 0.023 < 0.050, and self-efficacy also influenced career decision-making with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.050. Simultaneously, both have an influence of 16.8% with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.050, while the remaining 83.2% is influenced by other variables. It can be concluded that the higher the self-determination and self-efficacy of students, the more likely they are to improve their career decision-making abilities.

Abstract

Drug abuse in Indonesia demands empowerment-based handling strategies through the Community-Based Intervention (IBM) Program. Recovery agents face complex challenges, requiring strong self-regulation to maintain work effectiveness and psychological resilience. This study explores the meaning of self-regulation within the lived experiences of recovery agents using a phenomenological approach. Three participants were purposively selected from Gayamsari Sub-district, Semarang City, with at least one year of active involvement and direct mentoring experience. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and analyzed using phenomenological analysis supported by NVivo. The findings reveal three integrated dimensions of self-regulation: metacognition, motivation, and behavior. Recovery agents demonstrate goal setting, action evaluation, internalization of altruistic values, and adaptive strategies. Collaborative support from the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and fellow agents strengthens individual self-regulation capacity. This study contributes theoretically to understanding self-regulation in social work and offers practical implications for developing holistic training and sustained support systems.

Abstract

Academic self-handicapping is a critical issue as it may hinder students’ academic achievement and personal development. This study aimed to describe the tendency of such behavior among junior high school students. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed. The participants consisted of 83 students who completed an academic self-handicapping questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics by categorizing scores into very high, high, moderate, and low levels, and by mapping them into behavioral and claimed self-handicapping dimensions. The findings revealed that 7 students (9%) were in the very high category, 39 students (47%) in the high category, 31 students (37%) in the moderate category, and 6 students (7%) in the low category. In terms of behavioral forms, 48 students (58%) predominantly exhibited behavioral self-handicapping, while 35 students (42%) showed greater tendencies toward claimed self-handicapping. These results indicate a relatively high level of self-handicapping, primarily expressed through observable behaviors that may negatively affect academic performance. The findings highlight the importance of guidance and counseling interventions to promote more adaptive learning strategies

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the influence of academic stress on student subjective well-being and to examine the role of positive religious coping as a moderating variable among high school students in a boarding school setting. The study employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory research design. The research population consisted of all students of SMA IMBS Yogyakarta who resided in the dormitory, totaling 139 students, and a saturated sampling technique was used. Data were collected using a questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale. The instruments were adapted from the Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents (ESSA), Student Subjective Well-Being Questionnaire (SSWBQ), and Brief RCOPE. Data analysis was conducted using SEM-PLS with the assistance of SmartPLS 4. The results showed that academic stress had a negative and significant effect on student subjective well-being (β = −0.436; p < 0.05). Positive religious coping had a positive and significant effect on student subjective well-being (β = 0.536; p < 0.05). However, positive religious coping did not function as a moderating variable in the relationship between academic stress and student subjective well-being (β = −0.095; p > 0.05). These findings indicate that higher levels of academic stress experienced by students are associated with lower levels of student subjective well-being. Meanwhile, positive religious coping can enhance student subjective well-being, but it does not strengthen or weaken the influence of academic stress on student subjective well-being.

Abstract

This study focuses on examining the relationship between parenting styles and spiritual intelligence on self-control possessed by junior high school students in Pageruyung District. The method used in this study is quantitative correlation with data collection techniques using parenting style scales, spiritual intelligence scales, and self-control scales with a Likert model. The total population was 759 students and a sample of 262 students spread across grades VII, VIII, and IX at junior high schools in Pageruyung District obtained through probability sampling techniques with proportionate stratified random sampling techniques. Data analysis used multiple linear regression. The research findings show that parenting styles and spiritual intelligence simultaneously have a positive and significant relationship with students' self-control by 32.1%, meaning that an increase in the quality of parenting styles and spiritual intelligence is followed by an increase in students' self-control. Meanwhile, the other 67.9% is influenced by other factors outside the research variables. The findings of this study can be used to develop guidance and counseling services that focus on improving students' self-control through strengthening spiritual intelligence and optimizing the role of parental parenting styles.
