Abstract

Students’ self-confidence is an important psychological aspect that supports their academic and social development. Internal factors such as self-concept and self-esteem play a significant role in shaping self-confidence and therefore need to be examined empirically. This study aimed to determine the effect of self-concept on students’ self-confidence, the effect of self-esteem on students’ self-confidence, and the simultaneous effect of self-concept and self-esteem on students’ self-confidence. This research employed a quantitative approach with an associative research design. The population consisted of all seventh- and eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Malalak, totaling 72 students, and total sampling was applied so that all population members were included as research samples. The research instruments were self-concept, self-esteem, and self-confidence scales developed by the researcher. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression and multiple linear regression. The results indicated that self-concept had a positive and significant effect on students’ self-confidence with a contribution of 35.8%. Self-esteem also showed a positive and significant effect on self-confidence with a contribution of 60.9%. Simultaneously, self-concept and self-esteem contributed 61.0% to students’ self-confidence. These findings highlight the importance of fostering self-concept and self-esteem to enhance students’ self-confidence.

Abstract

This study is based on the frequent procrastination behavior exhibited by students who are more focused on non-academic areas, such as prioritizing extracurricular activities over academic assignments. In this case, it can also be seen that guidance counselors never provide group counseling services to address student problems, but rather focus on individual counseling services. This study aims to determine the level of academic delay among students before they are provided with group counseling services using self-management techniques, describe the implementation of these services, and analyze efforts to reduce academic delay among eighth-grade students. The type of research used was experimental research with a pre-experimental design, namely a single group pre-test and post-test design with a quantitative approach. The research subjects were determined using non-probability sampling with a purposive sampling technique involving 6 subjects. The results of this study indicate an increase in efforts to reduce procrastination behavior among students, with a pre-test average score of 83.2 and a post-test average score of 102.5. The T-test analysis produced a significance value (two tails) of 0.020 < 0.05, which indicates a difference between the pre-test and post-test scores, as well as an N-Gain score of 71.39% in the effective category. This study concludes that group counseling using self-management techniques is effective in reducing academic procrastination among students.

Abstract

One counseling approach that can be applied by counselors to enhance students’ career self-efficacy by utilizing their strengths and personal resources is group counseling using the Solution-Focused Brief Counseling (SFBC) approach. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Solution-Focused Brief Counseling group counseling in improving the career self-efficacy of Grade XII students at SMAN Model Terpadu Bojonegoro. The study employed a quasi-experimental design using a nonequivalent control group design. The research participants consisted of 18 students, including 9 students in the experimental group and 9 students in the control group, selected through a non-random purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a career self-efficacy questionnaire. The implementation of Solution-Focused Brief Counseling group counseling was conducted in four sessions, which include rapport building, problem identification, counseling goal setting, intervention implementation, termination, evaluation, and follow-up. The results of data analysis showed that the experimental group achieved a posttest mean score of 88.67, while the control group obtained a posttest mean score of 81.67. These findings indicate a significant difference between the two groups, with a higher increase in career self-efficacy observed in the experimental group compared to the control group. Furthermore, the independent samples t-test revealed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.005, which is lower than the significance level of 0.05. This result indicates that Solution-Focused Brief Counseling (SFBC) group counseling is effective in improving the career self-efficacy of Grade XII students at SMAN Model Terpadu Bojonegoro.

Abstract

The abstract should end with a comment about the importance of a brief outcome or conclusion. The integration of information and communication technology (ICT) in education often remains limited to knowledge transfer without adequately promoting critical thinking or emotional development. School counselors are expected to adopt holistic, student-centered approaches aligned with deep learning principles. This study aimed to enhance junior high school counselors' competencies in Garut Regency through Socratic method training as a strategy for implementing deep learning principles in guidance and counseling services. A qualitative participatory action research design was employed with 51 guidance and counseling teachers using the APPLE Facilitation Model (Assess, Plan, Prepare, Lead, Evaluate). Data were collected through reflective exercises, service plan development, practical implementation observations, and in-depth interviews, then analyzed using thematic analysis. Profound professional transformation emerged across four dimensions: identity shift from advice-givers to facilitators, enhanced student engagement, collaborative professional culture development, and increased comfort with uncertainty. Implementation outcomes showed 98% increased confidence in student-centered approaches, 91% motivation for facilitative methods, and 96% intention to implement Socratic questioning. The integration of deep learning principles through Socratic method training demonstrated significant promise for enhancing school-based guidance and counseling effectiveness. The APPLE model proved effective for systematic professional transformation in Indonesian educational contexts.

Abstract

The problem in this study departs from the low learning discipline of students, which can be seen through behaviors such as being late to class, not doing assignments, lack of focus during learning, and violations of school rules. This condition has an impact on the decline in the quality of the process and learning outcomes. For this reason, effective interventions are needed, one of which is through group counseling with token economy techniques that focus on providing positive reinforcement to form disciplined behavior. This study uses a quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design. The research sample amounted to 10 students of class VIII.5 who were selected using the purposive sampling technique. The research instrument in the form of a learning discipline scale contains 32 items that have been validated. Data analysis was carried out using the t-test and the N-gain test to see the difference in scores before and after treatment. The results of the study showed that there was a significant influence of token economy technique group counseling on improving student learning discipline. The t-test results in a tcal value = 9.649 > ttable = 2.262, so H0 is subtracted and Ha is accepted. The results of the N-gain test showed a moderate improvement category, which means that this technique is effective in modifying more disciplined learning behaviors. It can be concluded that group counseling with token economy techniques has a significant effect on improving student learning discipline. This technique is able to provide systematic reinforcement so that disciplinary behavior can be formed and maintained more consistently.

Abstract

Social independence is an important indicator in assessing the success of family empowerment programs, particularly in the Family Hope Program (PKH) through P2K2 group counseling activities. However, most Beneficiary Families (KPM) still show a high level of dependence on government assistance, limited decision-making ability, and low control over their daily socio-economic behavior. This article aims to analyze the effectiveness of self-management techniques in group counseling as an intervention approach to foster independent behavior among KPM. The analysis covers the concept of social independence, the dynamics of group counseling in P2K2, and the relevance of self-management components to behavioral change. The method used is a literature review focusing on group counseling theories, self-management models, PKH implementation guidelines, and empirical findings related to improving social independence. The results show that self-management contributes to increasing social independence through self-control, self-monitoring, self-planning, and self-evaluation. These aspects help participants internalize behavioral changes, set realistic goals, and improve reflective abilities. In addition, group counseling provides social support that strengthens the behavior change process through discussion, experience sharing, and motivational support.

Abstract

The ability to manage emotions is an important aspect in the psychological development of students in the early adulthood phase. The family environment, especially the level of family harmony, is often seen as a factor that influences an individual's emotional development. However, empirical findings show that the relationship between family harmony and the ability to manage emotions is not always positive. This study aims to analyze the relationship between family harmony and the ability to manage emotions in students of the Guidance and Counseling Study Program, Jambi University, Class of 2023. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The study population consisted of 101 students and all were sampled through a total sampling technique, with the limitation of the sample of students coming from complete nuclear families. The research instruments were a family harmony scale and an emotion management scale that had met validity and reliability tests. Data analysis was carried out using Pearson Product Moment correlation with the help of IBM SPSS Statistics 26. The results showed a negative and significant relationship between family harmony and the ability to manage emotions (r = -0.258; p = 0.009). These findings indicate that high family harmony is not always followed by high emotion management abilities in students. The results of this study are expected to provide theoretical contributions to the study of family psychology and practical implications for guidance and counseling services in higher education.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of behavior contract–based group counseling in reducing truancy behavior among junior high school students. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed. The participants consisted of 11 seventh-grade students identified through a needs assessment as having high levels of truancy. Data were collected using a validated truancy behavior questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results showed a decrease in the mean truancy score from 66.73 in the pretest to 54.18 in the posttest, with a Z value of −3.059 and a significance level of 0.001 (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that group counseling integrated with behavior contract techniques is effective in reducing truancy behavior. The novelty of this study lies in applying a structured behavioral contract within group counseling in an Islamic junior high school context.

Abstract

Emotional regulation is a critical developmental competence for children with intellectual disabilities, particularly in inclusive primary school settings. This study examined the strengthening of emotional regulation through social-emotional group guidance. A quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach was employed. Participants consisted of six children with intellectual disabilities enrolled in an inclusive primary school. Emotional regulation was assessed using a structured observational scale administered before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (Z = −2.201; p = 0.031), indicating a gradual improvement in emotional regulation following the group guidance program. These findings suggest that social-emotional group guidance is a relevant and developmentally appropriate approach to supporting emotional regulation within school-based counseling services in inclusive education.
