Abstract

This study addresses the rising prevalence of overthinking among adolescents, which has been linked to decreased academic performance, emotional disturbances, and unhealthy social relationships. A quantitative approach was used with a true experimental design involving pre-test and post-test control groups. The participants consisted of six students selected through purposive sampling and divided into two groups: the experimental group received group counseling incorporating mindfulness therapy, while the control group received no intervention. The results revealed a significant reduction in overthinking levels in the experimental group, with the average pre-test score decreasing from 93 to 57.6 in the post-test. In contrast, the control group showed an insignificant change, from 92.3 to 90.6. The t-test analysis showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.001 < 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference between the two groups. Furthermore, the N-Gain Score for the experimental group was 37.99%, categorized as moderate, whereas the control group scored only 1.78%, categorized as low or ineffective. These findings suggest that group counseling with mindfulness therapy is moderately effective in reducing overthinking in students

Abstract

This study was conducted based on data obtained from a preliminary study involving eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Bontang, which indicated a low level of adversity quotient. The findings revealed that students tended to give up easily when facing difficulties in learning or social situations, felt unable to control challenging circumstances, were reluctant to take responsibility for their problems, and experienced a decline in learning motivation when confronted with academic pressure or failure. The research employed a quantitative experimental design, specifically a nonequivalent control group design. The population consisted of 30 eleventh-grade students identified as having a low adversity quotient, with a sample of six students selected based on purposive non-probability sampling techniques. The sample was divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The group counseling sessions were conducted five times, applying the Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) approach for the experimental group and conventional group counseling for the control group. The pre-test scores showed an average of 31.66 for the experimental group and 29.33 for the control group. After the counseling sessions, the post-test average scores increased to 72.33 for the experimental group and 63.33 for the control group, indicating an average score increase of 40.67 and 34.00, respectively. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in students’ adversity quotient. Therefore, it can be concluded that REBT-based group counseling is effective in enhancing the adversity quotient of eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Bontang in the 2024/2025 academic year.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of group counseling using the group discussion technique in preventing excessive Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) behavior among students in Bojonegoro. Group counseling with the group discussion technique aims to help students understand the negative impacts of FoMO, increase self-awareness regarding social media use, and develop critical thinking and self-control skills through interaction and open exchange of ideas within the group. This study employed a quantitative pre-experimental approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects consisted of ten students from the Guidance and Counseling Study Program in Bojonegoro, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a FoMO scale that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was conducted using a paired sample t-test to determine the difference in FoMO levels before and after the treatment. The results showed a significant difference between FoMO scores before and after the implementation of group counseling with the group discussion technique, with a t-value of 11.354 and a significance level (2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05. This confirms that group counseling using the discussion technique is an effective intervention in addressing psychological challenges in the digital era such as FoMO and is relevant to be applied in school-based mental health programs.

Abstract

Guidance and Counseling (BK) management in schools plays a strategic role in student development, yet its implementation often faces obstacles in meeting the Operational Implementation Guidelines (POP) standards. This study aims to identify the discrepancy between the ideal POP BK standards and the actual implementation of individual counseling management at SMA Negeri 4 Surabaya. This study employed an evaluative approach using the Discrepancy Evaluation Model (DEM) to assess Planning, Organizing, Actuating, and Controlling (POAC) aspects. Data were collected via interviews, observations, and documentation to compare actual conditions with established standards. The results show that overall, individual counseling management complies with standards, but implementation is not yet comprehensive. Significant discrepancies were found in the counseling process, which lacked theoretical adherence, needs assessments limited to AKPD instruments, and outcome evaluation and follow-up restricted to monitoring without in-depth analysis. While service management is functional, strengthening counselors' professional competence and developing data-driven evaluation systems are necessary to optimize counseling effectiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the implementation of data-driven supervision in school counseling services and its contribution to improving service quality. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, the research involved school principals, supervisors, and guidance and counseling teachers who were purposively selected due to their direct engagement in the supervision process. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, supervision observations, and document reviews, including student needs assessments, counseling journals, and case reports. The data were analyzed through stages of data reduction, thematic categorization, interpretation, and triangulation to ensure accuracy and credibility. The results indicate that data-driven supervision is carried out systematically through a sequence of pre-conference, observation, post-conference, and follow-up meetings, enabling professional development to occur objectively based on empirical evidence rather than subjective judgment. The novelty of this study lies in its empirical mapping of the integration between clinical supervision and scientific supervision within data-driven supervision practices in school counseling, a topic that remains underexplored in the Indonesian context. Overall, data-driven supervision enhances the precision of service planning, the quality of documentation, and the relevance of interventions to student needs, and has the potential to evolve into a continuous professional development model when supported by improved digital literacy and a reflective, collaborative school culture.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Guidance and Counseling teachers in preventing bullying in schools through a literature review approach. The review was conducted using various scholarly sources published between 2015 and 2025, including journals, books, and relevant research reports. The findings indicate that Guidance and Counseling teachers play a strategic role in three main dimensions: preventive, curative, and collaborative. In the preventive aspect, Guidance and Counseling teachers help raise students’ awareness of the negative impacts of bullying through guidance services, counseling sessions, and character-strengthening programs. In the curative aspect, Guidance and Counseling teachers provide individual and group counseling services to assist both victims and perpetrators in their psychological recovery and behavioral change processes. Meanwhile, in the collaborative aspect, Guidance and Counseling teachers work together with subject teachers, homeroom teachers, principals, and parents to create a safe and inclusive school environment. The study concludes that the effectiveness of Guidance and Counseling teachers’ roles is strongly influenced by professional competence, school policy support, and the involvement of the entire school community. Therefore, Guidance and Counseling teachers serve as key agents of change in fostering a school culture free from violence and in promoting students’ positive character development.
