Abstract

This study aims to improve the critical thinking skills of fifth-grade students at SDN Kebonsari 3 on angle materials through the application of Problem Based Learning (PBL) assisted by clock-angle media and educational games. The low critical thinking ability of students in mathematics learning about angles is the background of this research. This is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. The research subjects were 21 fifth-grade students of SDN Kebonsari 3 in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data collection instruments included observation sheets, critical thinking ability tests, and documentation. The critical thinking indicators used refer to Ennis's indicators: interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, and self-regulation. The results showed an improvement in students' critical thinking ability from pre-cycle with a completeness percentage of 33.33%, increasing to 61.90% in cycle I and reaching 85.71% in cycle II. The average critical thinking score also increased from 58.57 in the pre-cycle to 72.38 in cycle I and 82.14 in cycle II. Thus, the application of the PBL model assisted by clock-angle media and educational games was proven effective in improving students' critical thinking skills on angle materials.

Abstract

Computational thinking is a foundational problem-solving competence that can be introduced in early childhood, yet digital devices are not always accessible or developmentally suitable. This study analyzes the effectiveness of an unplugged coding activity book as a screen-free medium for developing young children's computational thinking. An integrative review was conducted on peer-reviewed literature published mainly between 2019 and 2026 concerning unplugged programming, early coding, activity-based learning, and assessment for children aged three to eight. The synthesis shows that paper-and-pencil tasks, cards, tangible sequencing, stories, movement, and visual routes can strengthen sequencing, pattern recognition, algorithmic thinking, representation, decomposition, and debugging when activities are systematic and supported by teacher scaffolding. Activity books are promising because they organize gradual, repeatable, low-cost, and observable tasks. Their effectiveness depends on developmental suitability, clear visuals, opportunities for manipulation and discussion, sufficient duration, teacher knowledge, and valid assessment. They are best used as an introductory and complementary medium rather than a substitute for play, social interaction, or later plugged coding experiences.

Abstract

Employee motivation is crucial for the success of any business, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). In Cirebon City, increasingly fierce competition in the culinary business requires MSMEs to maintain the enthusiasm and responsibility of their employees serving customers. This study aims to examine the role of leadership and communication styles in improving employee motivation in culinary MSMEs in Cirebon City. This study used a qualitative approach with interviews as the primary data collection technique. Ten informants residing in Cirebon City, consisting of employees and MSME owners/managers, were selected using purposive sampling based on their work experience. Interview data were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques, namely through transcription, coding, grouping themes, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the form of leadership most preferred by employees was not simply giving instructions, but when the business owner directly worked with employees during peak customer hours and directly modeled correct work techniques rather than simply reprimanding them, so that employees felt supported and did not work alone. The most memorable forms of appreciation for employees are generally not formal bonuses, but rather personal things like the convenience of changing shifts or taking time off, holiday allowances, and even invitations to vacation together out of town, paid for by the business owner. Meanwhile, the most common communication problem is the lack of structured information channels: operational instructions and information such as stock, prices, and order details are often only conveyed verbally and suddenly during peak business hours, which can lead to minor errors, such as mixed up customer orders. This study concludes that leadership style and communication support each other in building work motivation in MSME employees and is expected to provide input for small business owners in Cirebon in managing their employees.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of IPAS (Natural and Social Sciences) instruction based on the Kenduren local wisdom tradition to strengthen the values of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) and politeness among fourth-grade students at SDN Karangsono, as well as to identify teacher strategies and analyze obstacles encountered during the learning process. The Kenduren tradition was selected because it embodies values of togetherness and etiquette that resonate with the students' lives. A qualitative case study approach was employed, utilizing structured interviews and observations. The findings indicate that the values of mutual cooperation and politeness inherent in the Kenduren tradition are relevant for integration into IPAS instruction. Mutual cooperation is instilled through group discussions, peer tutoring, and the habit of helping one another, while politeness is fostered through teacher role modeling, the use of polite language, showing respect to teachers and peers, and introducing the etiquette associated with the Kenduren tradition. Implementing instruction based on local wisdom has positively impacted student behavior, evidenced by increased willingness to help peers, improved cooperation skills, the use of more polite language, and respectful attitudes toward teachers and elders. However, the study also identified a gap between understanding and application; while students can articulate these values, they do not yet consistently practice them in their daily lives, particularly outside of teacher supervision. To address this, teachers employ strategies such as peer tutoring and role modeling during morning routines, and utilize digital media such as Smart TVs to boost learning motivation. The study concludes that IPAS instruction based on the Kenduren local wisdom tradition contributes to strengthening the values of mutual cooperation and politeness. Sustaining the reinforcement of these values requires closer collaboration among schools, families, and the community to ensure consistent internalization in daily life.
