Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of monthly nadhom recitation evaluation as an effort to increase students’ memorization at Dormitory I of Ngalah Islamic Boarding School, Pasuruan. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving the dormitory head, ustadzah responsible for nadhom memorization guidance, and students participating in the recitation program. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was examined through source and technique triangulation. The results show that the nadhom recitation evaluation is implemented systematically through daily recitation submissions, weekly evaluations, and monthly evaluations. Ibtida’ students submit one nadhom per day, while Wustho students submit two nadhom per day. Weekly evaluations are conducted every Thursday to control and reinforce memorization, while monthly evaluations are conducted at the end of the month to determine target achievement. Recitation results are recorded in an assessment book and used as a basis for follow-up actions, including guidance, motivation, murojaah, mentoring, and educational sanctions for students who have not achieved the target. Documentation shows an increase in memorization from 3 nadhom on April 19 to 39 nadhom on May 25. Supporting factors include a structured guidance system, the active role of ustadzah, assessment administration, and targets based on educational levels. Inhibiting factors include differences in memorization abilities, consistency in murojaah, and limited time. Thus, monthly evaluation functions not only as an assessment activity but also as a monitoring and guidance mechanism that supports the gradual development of students’ memorization.

Abstract

This study aims to improve mathematics learning outcomes on plane geometry (bangun datar) material through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model among fourth-grade students (Class IV-A) at UPT SD Negeri Latsari, Tuban Regency. Prior to the intervention, most students’ scores were below the Learning Achievement Criterion (KKTP) of 75, reflecting a broader national pattern in which Indonesian students’ mathematics literacy remains low, as shown by the 2022 PISA results. This study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design following the Kemmis and McTaggart model, implemented in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 30 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through learning outcome tests administered at the pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II stages, then analyzed descriptively together with the Normalized Gain (N-Gain). Results showed that the average score increased consistently from 59.83 (pre-cycle) to 68.67 (Cycle I) and 72.00 (Cycle II), while classical mastery rose from 23.33% to 43.33% and 50.00% respectively, with an overall N-Gain of 0.303 (medium category). However, the 75% classical mastery target had not yet been achieved by the end of Cycle II. These findings indicate that PBL contributed positively to improving students’ mathematics learning outcomes on plane geometry material, although its effectiveness across cycles was not fully linear, suggesting the contextual nature of PBL’s impact and the need for further pedagogical reinforcement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of YouTube educational content viewing duration on the critical thinking skills of elementary school students at SDN 1 Wawolemo. This study used a quantitative approach with an ex post facto design. The study population was all students, with a sample determined through purposive sampling technique, namely students who actively use YouTube as a learning medium. Data collection techniques used a questionnaire to measure viewing duration and a test to measure students' critical thinking skills. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, specifically simple linear regression tests. The results showed that the duration of watching educational content was in the moderate category, while students' critical thinking skills were in the moderate to high category. The regression test results showed a positive and significant effect between the duration of watching educational content on YouTube and students' critical thinking skills. These results indicate that YouTube can be utilized as an effective alternative learning medium when used appropriately. However, viewing duration needs to be controlled and balanced with the selection of quality content and guidance from teachers and parents to optimally impact students' cognitive development.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Jarimatika (finger-counting) method on the mathematics learning outcomes of fourth-grade elementary school students on multiplication material. A quantitative approach with a quasiexperimental design was employed, involving 52 fourth-grade students of SDN 1 Cibogohilir, Plered, Purwakarta, consisting of 27 students in the experimental class and 25 students in the control class, determined through saturated sampling. Data were collected using pretest and posttest instruments that had been tested for validity and reliability. The pretest results showed no significant difference between the experimental class (mean = 38.48) and the control class (mean = 32.80), asindicated by an Independent Samples t-test (Sig. = 0.792 > 0.05), confirming that both groups had equivalent initial abilities. After treatment, the posttest mean of the experimental class (81.59) was far higher than that of the control class (37.40). Because the posttest data were not normally distributed, the Mann-Whitney U test was applied and produced a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant difference in learning outcomes between the two groups. The effect size analysis using Cohen's d yielded a value of 2.69, categorized as a large effect. These findings indicate that the Jarimatika method is highly effective in improving students' understanding of multiplication concepts and can be recommended as an alternative learning strategy for elementary mathematics teachers.

Abstract

Islamic Cultural History (ISCH) learning is characterized by material containing various figures, events, places, chronologies, and values that require continuous memorization and understanding. This condition requires teachers to use learning methods that can strengthen student understanding. This study aims to describe the implementation of the repetitive method in improving student learning comprehension in the ISCH subject and identify supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation at MTs Miftahul Ulum Sek Gersek Palengaan Laok Pamekasan. The study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation with informants such as the madrasah principal, ISCH teachers, and grade VIII students. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, while data validity was carried out through source and technique triangulation. The results showed that the repetitive method was applied systematically through repeating previous material before entering new material, giving questions and quizzes, re-explanation of material that has not been understood, linking old material with new material, practice questions, discussions, assignments, and evaluation. The implementation of this method demonstrated improved student understanding, characterized by the ability to comprehend and re-explain the material, increased memory, engagement, self-confidence, and improved learning outcomes. Supporting factors included the support of the madrasah principal, teacher competence and creativity, student motivation, facilities and infrastructure, and a conducive classroom atmosphere. Obstacles included differences in student ability, lack of concentration, time constraints, boredom due to repetition, and the difficulty of some Islamic Studies material. Teachers addressed these issues by varying the forms of repetition through quizzes, discussions, Q&A sessions, practice exercises, motivation, and guidance.

Abstract

Academic supervision is an important function of school leadership in improving teacher professionalism and the quality of learning. This study aims to analyze the implementation of academic supervision by the principal at SMA Negeri 3 Merangin, focusing on the supervision model, the application of supervision principles, implementation constraints, and its impact on teacher professionalism. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data validity was strengthened through technical triangulation. The results showed that academic supervision had been implemented according to a planned schedule through planning, pre-observation, classroom observation, post-observation, and documentation stages. However, its implementation was still predominantly conventional and administrative, particularly focusing on the completeness of learning administration. The scientific principle was reflected in the use of structured supervision instruments, while democratic, cooperative, and constructive principles had not been optimally implemented. The main obstacles included the principal's limited time, insufficient coaching skills, resistance from some teachers, and supervision instruments that were not sufficiently responsive to contemporary learning needs. The impact of supervision was more evident in improving teachers' compliance with learning administration than in producing substantial changes in teaching practices and reflective professional culture. The study concludes that academic supervision needs to shift from administrative inspection toward collaborative, constructive, and coaching-oriented professional development.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the phenomenon of low mathematical concept mastery among junior high school students, particularly in statistics material. Conventional learning patterns, which tend to be monotonous and dominated by procedural formula delivery, result in students' difficulty in understanding the essence and interrelationships between concepts. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach integrated with PhET Interactive Simulation media in improving students' mathematical concept understanding. Utilizing a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design (The Nonequivalent Pretest–Posttest Control Group Design), this study involved a sample of 64 eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Langsa, divided into an experimental class (n = 32) and a control class (n = 32). Data were collected using an essay test assessing concept understanding that met the criteria for validity, reliability (r = 0.806), discriminating power, and difficulty index. The analysis results revealed a significant increase in the experimental class, with an average posttest score of 75.75 and an N-Gain index of 0.66, whereas the control class achieved an average posttest score of 64.84 with an N-Gain index of 0.51. Hypothesis testing via Independent Sample t-Test yielded a significance value (2-tailed) of p = 0.000 < 0.05. These findings demonstrate that implementing the contextual approach assisted by PhET Simulation is significantly more effective in facilitating mathematical concept understanding compared to conventional learning.

Abstract

Computational thinking is a form of Higher-Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) that assists students in decision-making and problem-solving, while also enhancing their performance in mathematics. This study aims to determine the differences in computational thinking skills among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 101789 when taught using the Problem-Based Learning model versus the Problem-Posing model. Quantitative research is defined as a method grounded in positivism; it involves studying specific populations or samples—typically selected via random sampling—collecting data through research instruments, and employing quantitative or statistical analysis to test established hypotheses. A population comprises the entire set of objects under study, whether they are people, things, events, values, or occurrences. Based on this definition, the target population for this study consists of all 60 fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 101789, comprising 28 boys and 32 girls. Random sampling was used to assign classes to the two experimental groups: Experiment Group I consisted of 30 students from class V-A (taught using Problem-Based Learning), and Experiment Group II consisted of 30 students from class V-B (taught using Problem-Posing). This study employs an experimental research method, specifically a quasi-experimental design. The hypothesis test analysis presented in the table above reveals a significance value of 0.000 for both the Problem-Posing and Problem-Based Learning methods, indicating a significant difference between the two. Furthermore, a comparison of the calculated t-value (t_{count} = 4.058) against the critical t-value (t_{table}) at df = 58 (2.001) shows that t_{count} > t_{table}. Based on the significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), it can be concluded that the null hypothesis (H₀) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) is accepted; there is a difference in students' understanding of computational thinking skills when using the Problem-Based Learning and Problem-Posing learning models. Results from Experiment I indicate that Problem-Based Learning is highly effective in developing computational thinking skills related to problem-solving. However, students' creativity in formulating problems was not optimally honed, as the problems were provided by the teacher.
