Abstract

This quantitative descriptive research was conducted with the main objective to comprehensively map and describe the level of essay writing ability of 9th grade students of UPT SMP Negeri 3 Galesong Selatan. The ability to write essays is considered an important prerequisite that measures students' critical thinking competencies and academic communication skills before continuing to higher levels of education. All 9th grade students in the academic year [Academic Year] were sampled through a total sampling technique or census (N=120). Data were collected through a practical essay writing test instrument, which was then analyzed based on a multi-aspect assessment rubric, including formative structure, content quality (content), grammatical and spelling accuracy, and citation and bibliography systems. The results of the analysis using descriptive statistics showed that students' overall essay writing ability was in the Sufficient category (Average Score = 61.8). Detailed aspect mapping showed a significant disparity in ability, with the highest score achieved in the Structure and Format aspect, while the lowest score was significantly in the Citation and Bibliography aspect (49.3%). These findings underscore the need for focused pedagogical interventions for teachers at the UPT SMP Negeri 3 Galesong Selatan to improve academic literacy, particularly in citation ethics and the application of formal writing rules.

Abstract

This study examines the differences between Islamic muamalah and conventional muamalah in modern economic practices. The main issue addressed is the low level of public understanding of the principles and implementation of both systems. This study aims to compare Islamic and conventional muamalah in terms of principles, objectives, and implementation. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method using a literature review approach by analyzing books and academic references related to Islamic and conventional economics. The results indicate that Islamic muamalah is based on Islamic law derived from the Qur’an and Hadith, emphasizing justice and the prohibition of riba, gharar, and maysir, while conventional muamalah is oriented toward profit and market mechanisms. This study concludes that Islamic muamalah offers an ethical and just economic system.

Abstract

Low learning outcomes in IPAS at the elementary school level remain a recurring issue, particularly when instructional practices are still teacher-centered and less engaging for students. This study aimed to examine teacher activities, student activities, and the improvement of IPAS learning outcomes through the implementation of the Examples Non Examples learning model in fourth-grade students. The research employed a mixed-methods approach using Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles. The participants consisted of 26 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through observation and learning achievement tests. The findings revealed a consistent improvement in teacher performance, student participation, and learning outcomes across cycles. Teacher activity scores increased from 9 in the initial meeting to 14 in the second cycle. Student activity improved from 52% to 81%, while the average learning achievement rose from 63.57 to 92. These results indicate that the Examples Non Examples model effectively enhances active learning and improves IPAS learning outcomes among elementary school students.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in lower grades requires a concrete, contextual approach that is appropriate for the cognitive development stage of early childhood. This study is an observational study conducted during an internship at SDN 13/1 Muara Bulian, specifically in grades 1A and 1B. The objective was to analyze and compare two mathematics learning strategies that used sensory-based media: a movement-based number floor (kinesthetic) in class 1A and sticks as concrete counting tools in class 1B. The results of the observation showed that both media were effective in helping students understand the concepts of addition and subtraction, although each had challenges in terms of classroom management and resource availability. This study also highlights the importance of the teacher's instructional assertiveness as the main foundation in learning in lower grades. These findings confirm that the teacher's creativity in choosing learning media that is appropriate to the local context and student characteristics is crucial to the success of mathematics learning at an early age.

Abstract

The sandwich generation phenomenon is a condition in which individuals of productive age bear the financial needs of two generations simultaneously: children who are not yet independent and elderly parents who have no source of income. This study aims to understand the real experiences of individuals who live as the sandwich generation, analyze the factors causing the double burden of income, and examine livelihood priority strategies from a muamalah perspective. The research method used was descriptive qualitative interviews with respondents who have dual responsibilities in Muslim families. The results show that economic pressures, increasing education costs, the lack of parental pension insurance, and cultural and religious values regarding the obligation of birrul walidain are the main factors that place individuals in the sandwich generation position. From a muamalah perspective, the obligation of income must be carried out based on ability (al-qudrah) and the principle of benefit (maslahah) to maintain a balance between the needs of all family members. Respondents implement financial management strategies such as detailed budgeting, prioritizing urgent expenses, saving, and income diversification. This study confirms that the sandwich generation phenomenon requires social support, financial management education, and a moderate understanding of religion to ensure the sustainability of family. welfare. Keywords: Sandwich generation, muamalah, family economy.

Abstract

This study aims to describe teacher strategies for increasing student interest in learning and developing character in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at SMPN 23 Tulang Bawang Barat. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and questionnaires. This approach was used to obtain an in-depth understanding of the learning process and the strategies teachers employ in PAI learning activities. The results of the study indicate that students' learning interest is quite high, as indicated by a sense of enjoyment in the lessons, readiness to learn, and active participation in the learning process. However, several obstacles were still encountered, such as boredom due to monotonous learning methods and a lack of enthusiasm for learning in some students. In terms of character, students generally demonstrate good character, especially in aspects of honesty, responsibility, politeness, social awareness, and discipline in worship, although there are still some students who require further guidance. Teacher strategies in increasing students' interest in learning and building their character include the application of varied learning methods, such as lectures, discussions, stories, and assignments, the use of visual learning media, providing motivation and praise, instilling character values through group prayer, and teacher role models in attitudes and actions. The conclusion of this study shows that creative, varied, and role model-oriented Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teacher learning strategies have proven effective in increasing students' interest in learning while shaping their character, so they can be a reference for teachers and schools in improving the quality of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning sustainably.

Abstract

This study explores the utilization of flashcard media in teaching letter recognition to Group A children at TK Kanigaran, Probolinggo City. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed to understand teachers' and children's experiences, teaching strategies, and responses to flashcard use. Participants included one Group A classroom (n=16s), two classroom teachers, and the school principal; data were collected through eight sessions of participant observation, semi-structured interviews with teachers and the principal, and documentation of teaching materials and children's work. Data analysis followed reduction, display, and verification procedures to generate primary themes. Findings revealed three central themes: (1) interactive teaching strategies that combine play and songs enhanced children's engagement; (2) pictorial and locally contextualized flashcard design facilitated letter-image association; and (3) implementation challenges included limited instructional time, variation in children's abilities, and the need for teacher training. The findings highlight flashcards' role as a supportive tool for early literacy through multimodal repetition and emotional engagement. Trustworthiness was ensured via data triangulation, member checking, and an audit trail. Practical implications include recommendations for inclusive flashcard design, integration of play-based activities, and teacher capacity building. This study contributes empirical evidence to early childhood education literature in Indonesia by emphasizing process, media design, and pedagogical practice within local contexts, and provides a basis for future longitudinal studies measuring early literacy development quantitatively.
