Abstract

The development of technology in the 21st century has brought fundamental changes to the education system, particularly in primary education in Indonesia. Digital transformation requires the renewal of learning processes that not only focus on cognitive achievement but also on fostering students’ creativity and innovation. This article aims to examine the development of technology in the field of primary education in order to generate creative and innovative works through research on primary school education policy practices from a historical perspective. This study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method, utilizing various sources such as books, academic journal articles, and relevant education policy documents. The results indicate that educational technology has undergone significant conceptual and practical development since the early 20th century to the present digital era, marked by a shift from simple visual media to the integration of digital- and multimedia-based learning systems. Primary education policies in the field of technology play a strategic role in directing the integration of technology into curricula and learning practices to improve educational quality. Furthermore, the application of technology in learning encourages creativity and innovation through the use of interactive media, e-learning, gamification, and the strengthening of digital literacy. Thus, the development of technology in primary education serves not only as a supporting tool for learning but also as an important instrument in shaping an adaptive, creative, and innovative educational ecosystem in accordance with the demands of the times and the needs of Indonesian students.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the meaning and moral values contained in the Hela Keta traditional ritual practiced by the Amanuban and Mollo communities in South Central Timor Regency. The ritual plays an important role in traditional marriage as it serves to reconcile and unite two groups that were once bound by an ancestral oath prohibiting intermarriage due to past conflicts. The research applied a descriptive qualitative approach consisting of two stages: library research and fieldwork. Data were collected through interviews with traditional leaders, community elders, and local authorities in Kesetnana Village, South Mollo District. The results show that Hela Keta holds deep symbolic meanings, such as the river symbolizing purification and peace, the sacrificial animal representing sincerity and reconciliation, and the communal meal reflecting unity and equality. The moral values found in this ritual include honesty, responsibility, brotherhood, peace, and respect for ancestors. These values represent the local wisdom of the Timorese people in maintaining social harmony and can serve as a source for character education in social studies learning.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the motivations of students in choosing the English Education major at the Faculty of Tadris and Tarbiyah, UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu, cohort 2024, and to analyze their influence on academic achievement. This research employed a qualitative descriptive design using in-depth interviews with three students representing both male and female perspectives, supported by observations and relevant document studies. The findings reveal that student motivations differ according to gender: female students are primarily driven by intrinsic factors, such as personal interest in English, enjoyment of learning, and the aspiration to become educators, while male students tend to emphasize extrinsic factors, including career prospects, financial independence, and parental support. Some students exhibit a combination of intrinsic and extrinsic motivations, where personal interest is reinforced by external encouragement. Motivation was found to significantly impact academic achievement: intrinsic motivation fosters deep engagement, active participation, and additional learning efforts, whereas extrinsic motivation promotes goal-oriented behavior, discipline, and consistency in completing assignments. Understanding these motivational differences and their effects on academic performance is crucial for educators to design supportive learning environments that meet diverse student needs and enhance overall academic success.

Abstract

All humans can use language to speak and interact with others to fulfill their life needs. Language also distinguishes humans from other creatures created by God. In contrast, animal communication is limited to instinctive signals used for basic purposes such as warnings, mating, and defending territory. Communication with animals is well established and has not undergone major developments in terms of complexity or well-being. In addition, human language is productive, able to form new sentences and convey ideas that have never been expressed before, while animal communication is limited to repetitive and established behavioral patterns. This article examines the linguistic, biological evolutionary, and cognitive differences that underlie the differences between the two communication systems, and shows that human language explains how this is possible about the unique position of humans in the use of language and the use of animal language.

Abstract

Escherichia coli is a Gram-negative bacterium that frequently causesgastrointestinal infections and remains a public health concern due to increasingantimicrobial resistance. This condition encourages the exploration of herbal plantsas alternative antibacterial agents. Centella asiatica (pegagan) is a medicinal plantwidely used in traditional medicine and is known to contain bioactive compoundssuch as flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and triterpenoids that potentially exhibitantibacterial activity. This study aimed to evaluate the inhibitory effect of ethanolicextract of C. asiatica leaves against E. coli using the disc diffusion method. Freshpegagan leaves were processed into simplicia, extracted with 96% ethanol, anddiluted into four concentrations (15%, 30%, 45%, and 60%). Escherichia colicultures were standardized to 0.5 McFarland and inoculated onto agar media. Paperdiscs impregnated with each extract concentration were applied, with ciprofloxacinused as a positive control and ethanol as a negative control. After incubation at 37°Cfor 24 hours, inhibition zones were measured. The results showed that none of theextract concentrations produced a measurable inhibition zone, while ciprofloxacinformed a clear zone of inhibition, indicating bacterial sensitivity and method validity. These findings suggest that ethanolic extract of C. asiatica leaves at concentrationsof 15–60% does not exhibit measurable antibacterial activity against E. coli, possiblydue to insufficient concentration of active compounds to penetrate the Gramnegative bacterial cell wall.

Abstract

Scientific literacy is an essential competence in elementary science education, particularly in relation to students’ ability to plan and evaluate scientific investigations. However, previous studies indicate that these inquiry skills have not been optimally developed among elementary students. This study aimed to describe fifth-grade students’ ability to plan and evaluate scientific investigations in science learning on magnetic force material. A quantitative descriptive method was employed without experimental treatment. The study was conducted at SD Negeri Sokowaten, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, involving 50 fifth-grade students selected using cluster sampling. Data were collected through a test instrument designed to measure students’ abilities in planning and evaluating scientific investigations and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and non-parametric analysis. The results revealed that students’ ability to plan scientific investigations was generally in the low to moderate category, particularly in formulating investigable questions and designing experiments. In contrast, students demonstrated relatively better ability in evaluating scientific investigations, although difficulties were still found in interpreting data. Overall, the findings indicate that students’ scientific inquiry abilities have not yet developed evenly. Therefore, strengthening inquiry-based science learning is necessary to support the balanced development of students’ scientific literacy.
