Abstract

This study was motivated by the low early reading skills of young children, particularly in recognizing letters, understanding letter sounds, and combining letters into simple syllables. The use of less interactive learning media also led to low learning motivation. This study aimed to examine the effect of the Canva-based educational game “Alfabeta Adventure” on the early reading skills of children at Villa Beta Kindergarten, Padang City. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental method and a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 15 children from Group B at Villa Beta Kindergarten, Padang City. Data were collected using a test consisting of 6 items. Data analysis included normality tests and hypothesis testing using a paired sample t-test with SPSS version 29.0 for Windows. The results showed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores of early reading skills, with a significance value of 0.001 < 0.05. The average score of children’s early reading skills increased after the intervention using the “Alfabeta Adventure” educational game. It can be concluded that the “Alfabeta Adventure” educational game is effective in improving early reading skills of young children.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of development of English vocabulary comprehension skills of early childhood children, especially in recognizing, understanding meaning, and matching vocabulary with appropriate images. In addition, the use of less interactive learning media causes low motivation and involvement of children in the learning process. Therefore, innovation of learning media that is interesting and appropriate to the characteristics of early childhood is needed. This study aims to test the effect of Visual Studio Code-based matching games on the ability to understand English vocabulary of children in Hangtuah Padang Kindergarten. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method. The research subjects were 20 children in group B consisting of two classes, namely class B2 as the experimental class and class B1 as the control class, each consisting of 10 children. The data collection technique used a test consisting of 4 statement items. Data analysis was carried out through normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis test (independent sample t-test) with the help of SPSS version 29.0. The results of the study showed a significant difference between the ability to understand English vocabulary of children in the experimental class and the control class with a significance value of 0.004 <0.05. The average ability score of children in the experimental class experienced a higher increase than the control class after being given treatment. Thus, it can be concluded that the Visual Studio Code-based matching game is effective in improving the ability to understand English vocabulary of early childhood children

Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of the Wayground application as an interactive learning medium in supporting the learning process in the digital era. The research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, analyzing various sources such as books, academic journals, and previous studies. The findings indicate that Wayground plays a significant role in enhancing student interactivity and learning motivation through the integration of gamification elements, real-time feedback, and ease of access. The platform can be implemented across different stages of learning, including introduction, core activities, and evaluation, and is applicable in online, offline, and blended learning models. However, the use of Wayground also presents several limitations, such as dependence on technological infrastructure, the potential for superficial learning, and varying impacts of competitive elements on students. Therefore, its implementation should be carefully integrated with appropriate instructional strategies and supported by teachers’ competencies and adequate facilities. In conclusion, Wayground has strong potential as an effective learning medium in creating more interactive, engaging, and meaningful learning experiences.

Abstract

Bullying is a form of peer violence that continues to occur frequently in school settings and exhibits a recurring pattern over time. This phenomenon is not only related to individual behavior but also to social structures, school culture, and patterns of power relations that develop within educational institutions. This study aims to analyze bullying as a form of the normalization of violence that is reproduced through social interactions and the school system. A qualitative approach based on a literature review was used to examine empirical literature and current social theories, utilizing Weinberg’s three-stage framework: problem identification, diagnosis of causes, and solution. The results indicate that bullying is influenced by family dynamics, peer group pressure, children’s characteristics, and weaknesses in school supervision mechanisms. The normalization of violence occurs when bullying is considered commonplace or becomes part of traditions such as seniority, thereby reinforcing the reproduction of violence in students’ daily interactions. This study emphasizes that addressing bullying requires a comprehensive approach through individual interventions, strengthening the role of families, enhancing teachers’ capacities, and transforming school culture to create a safe, inclusive, and violence-free learning environment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze teachers efforts in improving reading literacy skills of grade III elementary school students in Blitar Regency. The background of this study is based on the low interest and ability of students in reading which is a challenge in fostering a culture of literacy in the Elementary School environment. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, with 10 third grade students as research subjects. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, semi- structured interviews, and documentation, which were analyzed using data reduction techniques, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study showed that students' literacy skills were still relatively low, as indicated by the majority of students not having reached the complete category in understanding, concluding, and reflecting on reading. Efforts made by teachers include making reading a habit for 15 minutes every morning, providing a reading corner, and giving assignments to retell the contents of the reading. Supporting factors in the implementation of literacy include parental support, the active role of teachers, and the availability of facilities and infrastructure. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include low motivation and interest in reading for students, the negative influence of gadgets, and lack of parental involvement. Thus, structured and consistent literacy activities are more effective in improving students' reading literacy skills, especially if supported by elaboration strategies and collaboration between the family and school environments.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the need for science learning on animal classification materials that can improve conceptual understanding, creativity, and collaboration among elementary school students. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of implementing project-based learning with a STEAM approach through educational games on the learning outcomes of third-grade students at SDN 42 Pekanbaru. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 33 students. The implementation was conducted in two meetings, consisting of pretest administration, material delivery using the Cambridge module, group formation, implementation of an educational game project entitled Discover Animal Classification, and posttest administration. Data were collected through learning outcome tests and analyzed descriptively and inferentially. The results showed that project-based learning with a STEAM approach through educational games was able to improve students’ understanding in distinguishing vertebrate and invertebrate animals, classifying animals based on their diets, and identifying their locomotor organs. In addition, students became more active, enthusiastic, creative, and able to collaborate effectively in groups. Therefore, this learning model is effective in improving learning outcomes and developing 21st-century skills among elementary school students.

Abstract

Research on the counseling process in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) reveals that a guidance and counseling program is essential for the development of students. Therefore, a policy is needed to support the guidance and counseling program. Using written data sources such as journals and articles, this study aims to understand the guidance and counseling process in Islamic boarding schools. The results indicate that the guidance and counseling process differs from that in formal educational institutions, stemming from Islamic values and teachings. Because Islamic boarding schools often conduct Islamic activities or curricula, guidance and counseling must be integrated into Islamic boarding school activities.
