Abstract

Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) is one of the most serious environmental impacts of mining activities, especially coal mining. It is characterized by low pH and high concentrations of heavy metals such as Fe, Mn, and Cr. This study aims to analyze a phytoremediation-based AMD management system using local plants. The research methods include a literature review and system modeling using the IDEF0 approach to illustrate the AMD management flow. A SWOT analysis was also conducted. The results show that phytoremediation can reduce heavy metal content by more than 90% and raise the pH of the acidic water from below 4 to near neutral (pH 6–7) within a certain period. From an industrial engineering perspective, this system is efficient because it utilizes local resources, reduces operational costs compared to chemical methods, and supports Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) based on circular economy principles. The integration of phytoremediation into the mining green supply chain provides added value in terms of environmental sustainability, regulatory compliance, and corporate image enhancement.

Abstract

The salt boiling process in small-scale industries is still largely performed manually, requiring repetitive physical activities that can potentially lead to musculoskeletal disorders among workers. This study aims to evaluate ergonomic risks in the salt boiling process and formulate improvement interventions to reduce these risks. A quantitative approach was applied through work posture observation, the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire, and posture assessment using the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method on three operators in a salt industry laboratory. NBM results indicated that the highest complaints occurred in the back, waist, shoulders, and lower limbs. REBA analysis identified the drying stage as the most high-risk activity (score 10, very high), followed by salt cooking (score 8, high), and fire stove preparation (score 6, medium). Based on these findings, interventions such as adjusting worktable height, using lifting aids, and implementing job rotation are recommended to reduce injury risk while improving operator productivity.

Abstract

Food Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in the economy, yet hygiene and safety aspects are often overlooked. This study aims to improve MSMEs' understanding of food industry hygiene and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) through a visual-based educational approach. The study employed a quasi-experimental design, with a Keripik MSME owner in Kemiri Village, Mojokerto Regency as the subject. Data collection methods included observation, interviews, a pre-test, education using posters and videos, and a post-test. The results showed an increase in knowledge scores from 20% in the pre-test to 70% in the post-test, indicating the effectiveness of the educational approach. Despite the increased understanding, resistance to the use of PPE was still found due to comfort concerns. These findings underscore the importance of ongoing education and behavioral approaches in establishing a hygienic and safe work culture in the food MSME sector.

Abstract

Spare parts inventory is a crucial component in supporting the smooth operation of mining service companies, one of which is PT. XYZ. The company faces excess inventory of workshop support spare parts, particularly oil filters (21707133, 21707132) and fuel filter (22480372). Data processing begins with a variability test, followed by forecasting, and then inventory calculations using the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) and Silver Meal (SM) methods. The variability test results indicate that oil filters are static (V<0.25), while fuel filters are dynamic (V≥0.25). Forecasting is conducted using a moving average, with MAPE values of 14%, 13%, and 12% respectively. The results show that the total inventory cost amounted to Rp398,085 or 39% lower than the company’s current policy. The optimal order quantity for fuel filter 22480372 from periods 1 to 12 in succession is 20, 21, 20, 18, 18, 19, 18, 18, 20, 20, 19, and 19.

Abstract

Global competition, digital transformation, and rising expectations for product quality all pose challenges for the automotive sector.  Kaizen, a concept of continuous improvement that is widely used in manufacturing processes, is one strategic way to address this challenge.  The purpose of this study is to examine the role of Kaizen in improving the quality of automotive products by conducting a comprehensive literature review of eleven selected scientific articles from national and international journals. The study found that Kaizen tools such as 5S, Poka-Yoke, PDCA, and Kaizen Costing were successful in reducing production errors and improving process efficiency.  However, cultural opposition, inadequate training, and adaptability to digital technologies all pose obstacles to Kaizen adoption.  This study shows that the effectiveness of Kaizen depends on management support, employee engagement, and the organization's capacity to incorporate technology into the philosophy of continuous improvement.  This research provides a foundation for building a Kaizen strategy in the Industry 4.0 era.

Abstract

The palm oil industry plays a vital role in the national economy through palm oil mills (POMs) that process fresh fruit bunches into crude palm oil and packaged products. The Consumer Packaging (CPC) department ensures product quality, yet its tasks requiring high accuracy, speed, and consistency may cause mental workload. This study assesses and analyzes the mental workload of Consumer Packaging (CPC) operators in a palm oil mill using the NASA-TLX method, involving eight respondents from the forklift, Samarpan machine, packing, and stuffing units. The results indicate an average NASA-TLX score of 82% (very high category), with effort identified as the dominant dimension (26%). Simulation of additional workers reduced workload to 59.6%. These findings highlight the importance of task redistribution, workplace improvements, and temporary contract workers to maintain productivity and operational sustainability.

Abstract

Traffic congestion in Indonesia, particularly on the Jakarta–Bandung route, significantly reduces mobility efficiency. Nebengers, a carpooling platform, offers an alternative solution to reduce private vehicle usage, but the drivers’ routes must be optimized to minimize travel costs. This study is a case study using the Vehicle Routing Problem with Profits (VRPP), the Prize Collecting Travelling Salesman Problem (PCTSP) model, and the heuristic nearest neighbor algorithm to determine the optimal route. The data considered include toll fees, fuel consumption, revenue from each drop-off point, and penalties for unvisited points. The results indicate that visiting all points produces a total cost of IDR 222,219, which is lower than the route with penalties (IDR 225,333). It is concluded that visiting all drop-off points is the best option to maximize profit and travel efficiency.
