Abstract

Premarital screening checkup is a series of tests that couples must undergo before getting married. Prospective brides and grooms need to prepare reproductive health for both prospective brides and grooms, so that after marriage they can have good health status in order to produce a quality generation. Objective: To identify the factors that influence the willingness to undergo premarital screening tests among prospective married couples. Quantitative research type with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study was prospective married couples at the Gayabaru Health Center, Central Lampung Regency, the sample used was 73 respondents with an accidental sampling technique. The study was conducted in May-June 2024. Data collection using questionnaire sheets, bivariate data analysis (chi square). The univariate analysis of 73 respondents showed that 50 respondents (68.5%) had good knowledge, 39 respondents (53.4%) had a positive attitude, and 64 respondents (87.7%) had no family relationship. The bivariate analysis revealed that knowledge (p-value = 0.001), attitude (p-value = 0.001), and family relationship (p-value = 0.025) were statistically significant, as the p-values were less than α = 0.05 (Ha accepted and Ho rejected). There is a relationship between knowledge, attitude and kinship on the willingness to take premarital screening tests.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the major public health problems that may lead to serious cardiovascular complications if not properly managed. An unhealthy dietary pattern, such as high intake of sodium, fat, and carbohydrates, is a significant factor contributing to increased blood pressure. This study aimed to describe dietary patterns and the incidence of hypertension among patients at Limapuluh Health Center, Pekanbaru City. This descriptive study employed a cross-sectional approach. A total of 63 respondents were selected using an accidental sampling technique. Data were collected through interviews using a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) and blood pressure measurements, then analyzed univariately. The results showed that most respondents had poor dietary patterns (58.7%) and experienced grade 1 hypertension (50.8%) and grade 2 hypertension (33.3%). These findings indicate a tendency between poor dietary patterns and the high incidence of hypertension. Nutritional education and healthy lifestyle promotion are recommended to prevent hypertension in the community.

Abstract

Digitalization of hospital services is a strategic necessity to improve effectiveness, efficiency, and patient safety. RSUD Arifin Ahmad Hospital in Pekanbaru, as a provincial referral hospital, faces complex inter-unit service processes, making digital transformation imperative. This study addresses a gap in the literature by emphasizing the integration of inter-unit services, which is often overlooked in the transition toward a smart hospital. Employing a qualitative method with a case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that digitalization accelerates service delivery, enhances data accuracy, strengthens coordination, and reduces administrative burdens, although its success is influenced by infrastructure quality, human resource readiness, SIMRS integration, and organizational culture. These findings underscore that digitalization is a fundamental foundation for realizing a modern, patient safety–oriented smart hospital.

Abstract

This qualitative case study examines social participation in the Tree Bank Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Riau, as a climate adaptation and campus health-promotion strategy. Existing green-campus studies largely emphasize physical infrastructure or environmental performance, while the social processes that sustain tree-based adaptation and health co-benefits remain underexplored. This study addresses that gap by integrating Cohen and Uphoff’s participation framework, social capital, and climate-health perspectives. Informants representing faculty leaders, lecturers, staff, students, alumni, Humendala, BPDAS, and DLHK were purposively selected. Data from interviews, observations, focus groups, and documents were thematically analyzed using NVivo 12 Plus. Participation was strongest in implementation, adequate in decision-making and benefit utilization, and weakest in evaluation. The study’s novelty lies in conceptualizing the Tree Bank as participatory green infrastructure whose adaptation and health value depends on maintenance, canopy growth, survival monitoring, heat-risk literacy, inclusive green-space use, and shared responsibility.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose due to impaired insulin secretion or action. This study aimed to analyze prescribing patterns and evaluate the rationality of antidiabetic therapy in hospitalized patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Arifin Achmad Regional General Hospital, Pekanbaru, during 2021–2023. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted using 76 eligible medical records. Most patients were female (57%) and aged 45–54 years. Insulin monotherapy, particularly novorapid, was the most commonly prescribed treatment, followed by metformin and combination insulin therapy. Rationality assessment showed that most prescriptions met criteria for appropriate indication, drug selection, dosage, patient suitability, and dosing interval. However, potential drug interactions were identified, mainly of moderate severity. In conclusion, prescribing patterns were generally rational, although monitoring of potential drug interactions remains necessary to ensure safe and effective therapy.

Abstract

Dental caries is an oral health problem that is caused by Streptococcus mutans. Pineapple peel is known to contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins, phenolics, and bromelain, which have potential antibacterial properties. This study aimed to formulate an ethanol extract of pineapple peel into a mouthwash preparation and to evaluate its antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans. This research used an experimental laboratory method with the disc diffusion technique. The extract concentrations used were 5%, 10%, and 15%, which were then formulated into mouthwash preparations F1, F2, and F3. The evaluation of the formulations included organoleptic tests, pH, viscosity, and antibacterial activity. The results showed that the ethanol extract of pineapple peel at concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15% produced inhibition zones of 12.1±1.05 mm, 12.0±1.00 mm, and 13.4±1.64 mm, respectively. Meanwhile, the mouthwash formulations F1, F2, and F3 produced inhibition zones of 11.1±0.1 mm, 11.5±1.2 mm, and 11.2±0.76 mm, respectively. ANOVA test results indicated a significant difference among treatments (p < 0.05). It can be concluded that the ethanol extract of pineapple peel formulated as a mouthwash exhibits strong antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans

Abstract

Digital nutrition education interventions have shown promise, yet most remain monolingual and rarely integrate local cultural food content, limiting their relevance in multilingual, culturally diverse settings such as Indonesia. This study addresses this gap by evaluating NutriPlay, a bilingual (Indonesian-English) mobile application that uniquely integrates nutrition education, English vocabulary acquisition, and Indonesian cultural food awareness—a combination not previously examined among elementary school students. A quasi-experimental one-group pre-post intervention study involved 30 fifth-grade students in Pekanbaru, Riau. Overall nutrition knowledge improved significantly from 37.2% to 83.1% (mean gain +45.9%, t(29)=18.47, p<0.001, Cohen's d=3.37, η²=0.92). Bilingual vocabulary mastery increased from 15.3% to 73.2% (+57.9%), and cultural awareness of Indonesian traditional foods reached 84%. Application engagement exceeded benchmarks with 95% repeat-use and mean session duration of 17.2 minutes. These findings demonstrate that a single mobile application can simultaneously advance nutrition literacy, second-language acquisition, and cultural identity in resource-limited school settings, offering a novel, scalable model for integrated health-language education in similar contexts
