Abstract

Women exposed to HPV are at a higher risk of developing cervical cancer. One preventive measure is HPV vaccination, which can be administered starting at the age of >9 years. However, the motivation, willingness, and acceptance of HPV vaccination among adolescents remain relatively low. This study aims to analyze the relationship between predisposing, reinforcing, and enabling factors influencing HPV vaccination behavior in adolescent girls based on Green's theory. This research is a descriptive analytic study using a cross-sectional approach. The population consists of female adolescents from SMA Pembangunan Jaya 2. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling, targeting participants who meet the inclusion criteria. The independent variables include predisposing factors (knowledge, attitude), reinforcing factors (information sources, costs), and enabling factors (family support, peer support). The dependent variable is HPV vaccination behavior. Data were analyzed using bivariate statistical analysis with the Chi-Square test. Statistical tests on predisposing and reinforcing factors using Chi-Square revealed that knowledge (p-value: 0.097 > 0.05), attitude (p-value: 0.084 > 0.05), information sources (p-value: 0.285 > 0.05), and costs (p-value: 0.981 > 0.05). For enabling factors, parental support (p-value: 0.001 < 0.05) and peer support (p-value: 0.021 < 0.05). Predisposing and reinforcing factors do not have a significant relationship with HPV vaccination behavior, while enabling factors have a significant relationship with HPV vaccination behavior.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is the second leading cause of death among women in Indonesia. This health issue is actually preventable through HPV vaccination, which can be administered to 5th-grade elementary school children. Several factors influence parents' decisions not to allow their children to receive the first dose of the HPV vaccine. The aim of this study was to analyze the determinants associated with the first dose of HPV vaccination among elementary school children. This study employed a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 281 mothers of 5th-grade elementary school children. Data were collected at elementary schools in Sigli City by distributing questionnaires from December 20–28, 2023. Quantitative data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression at a significance level of α=0.05 and a 95% confidence interval. The results showed that 258 children (91.81%) did not receive the HPV vaccine. Factors associated with the first dose of HPV vaccination among elementary school children were knowledge (OR=6.46; 95% CI=1.87–22.2), attitude (OR=2.74; 95% CI=1.04–7.18), concern (OR=3.31; 95% CI=1.09–10.00), and lack of utilization of information sources (OR=3.30; 95% CI=1.00–10.83). Factors not associated with the first dose of HPV vaccination included perception (OR=1.20; 95% CI=0.50–2.84), school support (OR=1.44; 95% CI=0.54–3.78), cultural beliefs (OR=1.12; 95% CI=0.47–2.63), and non-electronic media sources (OR=1.46; 95% CI=0.46–4.65). The most dominant factor associated with the first dose of HPV vaccination was poor knowledge (AOR=11.95; 95% CI=1.90–72.47).

Abstract

The surfactants and co-surfactants combination in nanoemulsion formulations is important to obtain optimal formulations. Mangosteen rind extract has various benefits. Objective: determine the effect of a combination of surfactant (Tween 80) and Co surfactant (PEG 400) on the physical characteristics of mangosteen rind extract nanoemulsion. The research method was carried out by comparing the physical characteristics of the nanoemulsion formula of mangosteen rind extract by testing pH, viscosity and particle diameter. Three formulas were made (F1, F2 and F3) and one formula without co-surfactant as a negative control (KN). The combination of surfactant and cosurfactant provided pH, viscosity and particle diameter characteristics that were significantly different between formulas and with the negative control. The combination of surfactants and co-surfactants influences the properties of Mangosteen Rind Extract (Garcinia mangostana L) Hand and Body Lotion.

Abstract

The success of healthcare organizations depends heavily on the quality of human resources, particularly nurses, who play a critical role in the organization's growth and sustainability. Performance evaluation, such as Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE), is essential to assess nurses' contributions, productivity, and competencies. Objective: This study aims to optimize the role and function of managers in nurse performance evaluation through the OPPE approach. Methods: The study employed a case study method with a pilot study approach involving 21 nurses at RSAB Harapan Kita. Data collection was conducted through interviews, observations, and questionnaires. Problems were analyzed using the Ishikawa diagram, followed by problem prioritization, action planning, and implementation based on the POSAC method (Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Actuating, Controlling). Results : The analysis revealed that performance evaluation was not optimal, with outdated guidelines, the absence of standard operating procedures (SOPs), and irrelevant assessment tools. Current OPPE evaluations showed behavior scores at 48.5%, clinical performance at 93.5%, and professional development at 55.5%. Interventions included developing updated guidelines, SOPs, and relevant assessment tools. Conclusion: Optimizing managers' roles through updated guidelines, SOP development, and improved assessment tools significantly enhanced the effectiveness of performance evaluations. The implementation of tiered supervision and periodic evaluations is expected to improve nursing service quality and support the sustainable achievement of organizational vision and mission.

Abstract

Mental health in older adults is shaped by physical and social environments, life experiences, and aging-related challenges like declining capacity, reduced functionality, and psychological stress. The 2019 Global Health Estimates (GHE) reports mental disorders account for 10.6% of elderly disability, with 14% of those aged 60 and over affected, primarily by depression and anxiety. Objective: This study aims to examine the differences in mental health based on age and gender among the elderly in social shelters. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the social shelter, in September-October 2023. A sample of 80 elderly individuals was selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews using a questionnaire with the DASS 21 (Depression Anxiety Stress Scales) instrument. Data analysis was performed using chi-square tests. Results: Most had normal mental health: depression (43.8%), anxiety (61.2%), and stress (76.2%). Gender correlated with anxiety (p<0.001) but not depression or stress, while age showed no significant relationships. Conclusion: Most elderly in the shelter had normal mental health, with gender linked to anxiety and age unrelated to depression, anxiety, or stress. These findings emphasize the importance of considering gender factors in efforts to improve mental health among the elderly.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The increasing elderly population in Indonesia poses significant challenges for families acting as caregivers responsible for providing optimal care. Caregivers often experience physical, mental, and emotional stress, commonly referred to as caregiver burden. Mindfulness therapy has emerged as an effective approach to reducing stress by transforming negative thought patterns. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness interventions in reducing caregiver burden and enhancing the health and well-being of caregivers for elderly family members through a systematic review. Method: A systematic review was conducted using the PRISMA approach. Data were collected from three databases: PubMed, EBSCOHost, and Scopus, with inclusion criteria focusing on research articles evaluating the effectiveness of mindfulness for caregivers of the elderly, published between 2019–2024. Five studies with a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) design were thoroughly analyzed using the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP). Results: The findings revealed that mindfulness interventions significantly reduced stress levels, depressive symptoms, and anxiety among caregivers. Additionally, improvements in sleep quality and emotional well-being were noted in some studies. While the effect on reducing caregiver burden was inconsistent, most studies demonstrated significant enhancements in mental health and overall well-being. Conclusion: Mindfulness-based interventions have proven effective in supporting the physical and mental health of caregivers for the elderly.
