Abstract

This study aims to vitalise epistemology by exploring alternative philosophical foundations from QS. Al-Hujurāt: 13 and operationalising them through synthesis with critical and multicultural education theories. This study employs a qualitative research Design with a library research approach to examine the epistemology of ta‘āruf as articulated in QS Al-Hujurāt 13 and its relevance to the revitalisation of multicultural education. Data collection is conducted through documentation techniques by systematically identifying, classifying, and reviewing relevant texts and written sources. The data analysis employs a hermeneutic method to interpret the Qur’anic text contextually and dialogically, combined with qualitative content analysis to examine conceptual patterns and theoretical intersections between Islamic epistemology and multicultural education theories. The results reveal that the concept of “i ta'ārufū” (getting to know each other) in the verse encompasses Ta’aruf Epistemology, a relational, dialogical, and socially transformative knowledge paradigm. Vitalisation is achieved by synthesising and integrating Freire’s concept of dialogue-praxis with Banks’ five dimensions of multicultural education, resulting in a transformation model at the levels of curriculum (oriented towards experience), pedagogy (teacher as learner and facilitator), and evaluation (authentic assessment).

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe how the campus environment shapes students’ Arabic communication skills. This study applies a descriptive qualitative approach with a field study conducted at the Arabic Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah, UIN Imam Bonjol Padang. Data collection was conducted through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and the data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with data validity reinforced through source and method triangulation. The results showed that a campus environment that actively encourages the use of Arabic significantly improves students’ communicative skills, particularly fluency, confidence, and the courage to express opinions. Social interaction among students and support from lecturers and the academic community also strengthen functional and contextual language practice. However, this study also identified several obstacles, including inconsistent use of Arabic outside the classroom, limited space for continuous practice, and psychological factors among students. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen language policies and develop a campus ecosystem that consistently supports the use of Arabic to optimally and sustainably improve students’ communicative competence.

Abstract

This study analyzes the strategy of Arabization of information technology terms in UNESCO's official terminological documents to reveal the Arabic language's response to the development of modern science. This study employs a descriptive–analytical research design using standardized information technology terms extracted from UNESCO’s official terminological documents as the primary data source. The data were collected through systematic documentation and classification of terminological entries, and were analyzed qualitatively using the theoretical framework of taʿrīb and Arabic morphological analysis to identify patterns of linguistic adaptation. The results of the study show three main strategies of Arabization, namely semantic matching through internal Arabic language resources, phonetic-morphological naturalization in accordance with sharaf patterns, and pure borrowing with limited phonetic adaptation. These findings confirm that Arabization in UNESCO documents is flexible and contextual, reflecting a balance between preserving the structure of the Arabic language and the needs of global technology terminology.ners in enhancing the effectiveness of character education in primary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to identify research directions, thematic patterns, and research gaps through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The PRISMA 2020 framework was employed to screen 445 publications, including those indexed in Scopus and in national journals indexed in SINTA 1–3. The data collection technique used in this study was documentary research, involving the systematic retrieval of scholarly articles from the Publish or Perish (PoP) database, which is indexed in Scopus and SINTA 1–3. Data analysis followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, which guided the identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion processes, and ensured transparent and standardised reporting of the systematic review. The findings reveal that SFL-based studies of language textbooks during 2020–2025 are predominantly focused on ideational meaning, particularly transitivity analysis, which is widely used to examine representations of gender, ideology, and social values in English language textbooks. The second dominant strand involves interpersonal meaning, especially appraisal system analysis, while the third focuses on textual meaning through thematic structure, cohesion, and text readability. In addition, the integration of genre analysis and multimodality has emerged, indicating an expansion of SFL applications within discourse-based literacy contexts. The findings also highlight significant research gaps, including the dominance of English-language contexts, the limited number of studies on Arabic and non-Western-language textbooks, and the lack of integration among SFL, corpus-based approaches, and AI-driven analytical technologies. This study concludes that SFL research is moving toward a more integrative and multimodal paradigm, while also offering substantial opportunities to expand SFL-based studies of Arabic language textbooks to strengthen the global representation of Systemic Functional Linguistics in language education.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of translation techniques on the quality of automatic Arabic–Indonesian translations in TikTok captions from the account @IqraaMedia. The objectives of this research are to identify the translation techniques employed and to evaluate translation quality in terms of accuracy, acceptability, and readability. This study adopts a descriptive qualitative approach using text analysis. The data consist of 25 Arabic TikTok captions containing Islamic preaching content, along with their automatically generated Indonesian translations. The data were purposively selected based on the relevance and completeness of the translations and collected through documentation, observation, and recording captions from the TikTok platform. Data analysis was conducted in three stages: identifying structural and semantic shifts between source and target texts; classifying translation techniques using Molina and Albir’s framework; and assessing translation quality using Nababan et al.’s model, rated on a 3-point scale (1–3) by three expert raters. The findings reveal seven translation techniques, with transposition as the most frequently used (32.39%), followed by established equivalence and literal translation (23.94% each). Translation quality assessment yielded average scores of 2.12 for accuracy, 1.84 for acceptability, and 1.80 for readability, indicating moderate overall quality. The results suggest that automatic translations generally convey the main message but often lack naturalness, cultural appropriateness, and clarity, particularly in translating religious terms. This study concludes that while automatic translation facilitates access to Arabic Islamic content on social media, improvements are required to enhance translation quality for effective multilingual religious communication.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the influence of using Arabiyah Bayna Yadayk and Silsilah Ta‘līm al-Lughah al-‘Arabiyyah as instructional media in Arabic language learning at the higher education level, with a specific focus on improving reading skills (maharah qirā’ah). The research employed a descriptive qualitative design. The primary data sources consisted of students enrolled in the Arabic Language Education Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. Meanwhile, the secondary data sources consisted of two Arabic textbooks, namely Silsilah Ta‘lim al-Lughah al-‘Arabiyyah and Al-‘Arabiyyah Bayna Yadaik. Primary data were collected through a questionnaire. Additionally, classroom observations were conducted to assess students’ engagement, participation, and reading behavior during the learning process. Documentation in the form of students’ reading test results was also collected to support the findings. Data analysis was conducted in several stages. Questionnaire responses were analyzed descriptively and thematically. Then, observation data were analyzed by comparing classroom behavior with students’ reading test results. Furthermore, content analysis was applied to examine the characteristics of both textbooks. The results showed that both textbooks demonstrate a strong correlation with students’ motivation in learning theherabic language. The supportive design, accessible vocabulary, and cultural elements of Arabiyah Bayna Yadayk particularly enhance reading skills and encourage consistent engagement. Meanwhile, Silsilah Ta‘līm al-Lughah al-‘Arabiyyah contributes to vocabulary expansion and sustained reading practice, thereby reinforcing students’ overall linguistic competence and academic confidence.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implicit meaning in the Qur'anic dialogue using the Relevance Theory proposed by Sperber and Wilson, specifically implicature, inference processes, cognitive effects, and processing effort. The research method used is qualitative, with a library research approach. The research data consist of dialogic utterances in Surah Ṭāhā, verses 17–28. The data source in this study is the text of the Qur'an, specifically Surah Ṭāhā verses 17–28. Data collection is carried out through a literature review, identifying, recording, and classifying the dialogic utterances under analysis. Data analysis is carried out using content analysis techniques. The results of the study show that these utterances function as communicative stimuli that direct interlocutors to the most relevant interpretation through context. These utterances produce significant cognitive effects with relatively minimal processing effort.
