Abstract

The process of centrifugation in urine examination is very important because it can be used in the manufacture of urine sediment. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of centrifugation speed on the results of urine sediment examination. Centrifugation speeds used were 3000 rpm, 3500 rpm, 4000 rpm, and 4500 rpm using pathological urine samples. The samples used were 32. The research method used was an experimental laboratory at the Pusura Yos Sudarso clinical laboratory in Surabaya. The results of the study with a speed of 3000 rpm obtained an average of erythrocytes = 6.63/LPB, leukocytes = 13.63/LPB, and epithelial = 10.50/LPB. At a speed of 3500 rpm the average value of erythrocytes = 7.63/LPB, leukocytes = 15.13/LPB, and epithelium 11.63/PLB. At a speed of 4000 rpm the average value of erythrocytes = 8.63/LPB, leukocytes = 17.75/LPB and epithelial = 13.50/LPB. At a speed of 4500 rpm the average value of erythrocytes = 9.63/LPB, leukocytes = 20.50/LPB, and epithelial = 15.38/LPB. The results of the statistical test One Way Anova obtained p-value results of 0.001 < (0.05) in erythrocyte cells, p-value results for leukocytes 0.025 < (0.05), and p-value results for epithelial cells 0.002 < (0.05) means that there is an effect on the centrifugation speed on the results of urine sediment examination.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women will often occur because of increasing gestational age, the increasing need for nutrients in the form of iron in the body which increases during the 2nd to 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Anemia has an impact of around 14-62% on pregnant women including the occurrence of Intra Uterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) which is a condition that causes fetal growth to be stunted which is characterized by the size and weight of the baby that is not appropriate during pregnancy. The next thing to worry about is the emergence of infection if the patient has IUGR. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship of leukocytes to IUGR in pregnant women who are anemic with the parameters measured being leukocyte levels, IUGR values in anemic patients. The study was carried out in an analytic observational manner, then samples were obtained from 24 patients. Then, the patients filled out informed consent indicating that the patient was willing to be a research sample. Furthermore, the patient's blood was taken to measure leukocyte levels and based on the KIA book, IUGR levels were measured. Based on the above, it shows that the value of the results of the Spearman correlation test is 0.085 (p> 0.05). It can be concluded that there is no relationship between leukocyte levels and IUGR values in anemic patients at IBI Surabaya Hospital.

Abstract

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is a condition where there are microorganisms that multiply in the urinary tract causing inflammation and bacteriuria. The delay in the examination results in an error in diagnosis, the examination must be carried out >1 hour and a maximum of 2 hours after the voiding process at a temperature of 20-25℃ and the delay can be done a maximum of 4 hours at a temperature of 2-8℃. The study was conducted in June 2022. The study was conducted at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Pandaan. UTI sampling at Sahabat Hospital in Suwayuwo Sukorejo. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of delay time and storage temperature on the results of urine leukocyte examination in UTI patients. This study used an experimental method using 35 urine samples. The statistical test used the Two Way Anova test with a 95% confidence level and the inaccuracy limit of (α) = 0.05. Based on the results of the Two Way Anova test between storage temperature and delay in urine leukocytes, a significance value of 0.981 (p>0.05), it can be concluded that Ha is rejected and Ho is accepted, meaning that there is no interaction effect between the length of time delay and storage temperature on leukocyte results. urine in UTI patients.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is caused by the dengue virus which is transmitted through the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Prevention of DHF can be done by using larvicides. Synthetic chemical larvicides are considered to have side effects in long-term use and can cause environmental pollution. So we need an alternative larvicides with natural ingredients from plants, namely Japanese Papaya plants. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Japanese Papaya (Cnidoscolus aconitifolius) leaf extract on the mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae. This type of research uses an experimental study design. This study used 6 treatments with 4 repetitions consisting of control without treatment, P1 (0.2%), P2 (0.4%), P3 (0.6%), P4 (0.8%), and P5 (1%). Observations were made for 48 hours. From the research results obtained LC50 of 1.095%. The results of statistical tests using One-Way ANOVA showed that there was a significant effect on the mortality of mosquito larvae.

Abstract

Cats are one of the most popular animals because of their cute and tame appearance. Just like other organism, cats can become infected worms if they are not kept clean. Cats infected with worms will initially lose their appetite, over time they will lose weight. Cats infected with worms, if kept and not treated continuously, can transmit to cat owners (humans). This study aims to determine the prevalence of parasitic worm infection in cat feces in the city of Surabaya, and to compare the prevalence of parasitic worm infection in domesticated cats with cats living wild in the city of Surabaya. The samples used in this study were 100 faecal samples, which were taken from 50 cats that live in the wild and from 50 live cats that are kept. Examination of faecal samples was carried out directly and indirectly using the saturated NaCl debris method, the data obtained will be presented descriptively and analyzed using the Chi-square test. Based on the results of the research conducted, the prevalence of worm infection in feral cat feces was 60%, while in domestic cats the prevalence was 10%. The types of worms that were found were Toxocara spp., Ancylostoma spp., Diphyllobothrium spp., and Trichuris spp. Based on the Chi-square test, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship (P<0.05) between the prevalence of parasitic worm infection in domesticated cats and cats that live in the wild.

Abstract

Ectopic testis is described as an abnormality of testicle development in which one or both testicles aren’t descending through the testicle normal pathways. Among all newborns with undescended testis, only 1% are diagnosed as ectopic testis. In this case, an 18 months old boy was presented to hospital with chief complaint of impalpable testis dextra. Phsical examination showed the right testis was not palpable in the scrotum and perineum. Ultrasonography examination showed a right testis in the perineum with normal volume and vascularization. Right orchidopexy was performed to correct the location of the testis. Early diagnostic of ectopic testis must be done through anamnesis, physical examination, and advanced examination. Limited faciliiesy and lack of parental knowledge make the patients come late to health facility. The conclusion of this study is knowledge among parents and skills of health workers concerning congenital anomaly especially undescensus testis should be improved.

Abstract

HCG hormone is a hormone produced by the placenta in early pregnancy with the aim of maintaining pregnancy. The Elisa method is a method for examining HCG levels which has the principle of specific antigen and antibody reactions. The work stage in the laboratory that has the biggest error is in the pre-analytic stage reaching 60%, one of which is the reagent temperature. The ELISA method recommends the reagent temperature to be stored at 2-8°C and when used at 25°C. Examination reagents Elisa method uses reagents that use enzymes in the examination. Enzymes are very sensitive to temperature. This study aims to determine the ratio of HCG levels at reagent temperatures of 25°C & 8° using the ELISA method. This type of research is analytic supported by experiments and literature studies. Serum samples of 6 pregnant women were taken from the Kedungmundu Public Health Center using a limited population count formula. The examination was carried out by comparing the reagents at a temperature of 25°C and 8°C using 6 serums of pregnant women and in duplicate. Data analysis only used primary data and statistical tests were carried out using normality, homogeneity and T-Test tests. The average result at a temperature of 25°C was 380.851 and the average temperature of 8°C was 321.99 and the T-test statistic test showed p value = 0.469 and 0.470. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there is an insignificant difference in the concentration of HCG by comparing the reagents at 25°C and 8°C.

Abstract

Lipomas are the most common soft tissue tumor neoplasms. Their range from benign lipomas to high grade liposarcomas. Liposarcoma happens when the neoplasm of a lipoma is malignant. There are various diagnostic methods that can be used to evaluate lipomas, one of which is Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy (FNAB). FNAB is the initial diagnosis to determine the diagnosis of lipoma soft tissue tumors. Histopathology is the definitive diagnosis or the gold standard for diagnosing lipoma soft tissue tumors. This research aims to determine the value of the Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy diagnostic test against histopathological tests as the gold standard in lipoma soft tissue tumor patients. This research is a retrospective with a descriptive observational design. This research involved taking medical records of patients with lipoma soft tissue tumors who were examined by FNAB at RSPAL dr. Ramelan, Surabaya for the period August 2019 - December 2021. The results of the FNAB examination were then matched against the histopathological examination data as the gold standard. Data processing using 2x2 cross tabulation to calculate the diagnostic test which includes sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy against the gold standard. The results of the Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy diagnostic test for histopathology in soft tissue lipoma tumors obtained sensitivity of 100.00%, specificity 95.83%, positive predictive value (NRP) 87.5%, negative predictive value (NRN) 100.00%, and 96.77% accuracy. Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy (FNAB) has good diagnostic value for diagnosing lipoma soft tissue tumors.
