Abstract

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the bacteria that causes nosocomial infections. The incidence of nosocomial infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa is around 10-15%. Nosocomial infections caused by these bacteria are increasingly difficult to treat. This happens because more and more strains are resistant to several antibiotics (Multidrug Resistance), so the selection of antibiotics against Pseudomonas aeruginosa is very difficult. This study aims to determine and analyze the effect of using polar and nonpolar solvents on Dayak onion bulb extract on the inhibitory ability of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The method used in this study was Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion using 8 sample and 5 replication with assay solvent 96% ethanol and n-hexane extract of Dayak onion bulbs (Eleutherine palmifolia L. Merr) with concentration variations of 75%, 80%, and 85%. Positive control used ciprofloxacin 5 µg and positive control DMSO 10%. The results showed that on phytochemical screening of solvent ethanol 96% contained flavonoids and n-hexane contained triterpenoids. Ethanol 96% solvent obtained a higher presentase yield than n-heksan solvents and the highest inhibition zone diameter was 85% concentration in 96% ethanol solvent. The results of statistical analysis with Mann Whitney test showed a significant difference between the treatment groups (p<0.05).

Abstract

Lead (Pb) is the main pollutant in the environment. Lead in fuel is an additive that is added to a gasoline mixture with the aim of increasing combustion so that vehicle performance increases. Lead is a type of heavy metal that can cause poisoning. Lead is easily absorbed in the body and can accumulate in human tissues. Lead can enter the human body through the respiratory system, orally, or through the skin surface. High lead levels in the blood can cause low platelets. This is because lead can interfere with the heme system in the blood, causing anemia. The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between lead (Pb) levels and blood platelet counts at gas stations in Mekikis Village. The research design in this study used a cross sectional approach. The research sample consisted of 10 gas station attendants. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Based on the examination, the average lead and platelet levels for gas station workers were 0.4344 ppm and 293,500 /UL respectively. Based on the results of the Spearman correlation test, a significant value of 0.391 was obtained where the sign value was > 0.05, which means that there is no relationship between lead levels and the number of platelets in the blood of Mekikis Village gas station attendants.

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease, one of which is coronary heart disease (CHD) is the main cause of death and morbidity caused by blockages in the coronary arteries (atherosclerosis). Elevated serum triglyceride levels can encourage the formation of atherosclerosis. Statins are the drugs most commonly used to lower triglyceride levels but have side effects, so new treatment are needed. Grapes are fruits that has many bioactive compounds such as proanthocyanidins and resveratrol which are believed to reduce triglyceride levels in serum. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of green grape extract (Vitis vinifera) on triglyceride levels in male Wistar rats which were divided into 5 groups, namely P0 (fed with standard feed), P1 (fed with high cholesterol and then standard feed), P2 (fed with high cholesterol and simvastatin 0.2mg/200mgBW/day), P3 (fed with high cholesterol and grape extract at a dose of 500mg/200mgBW/day), and P4 (fed with high cholesterol and 250mg/200mgBW/day grape extract). Examination of triglyceride levels was carried out using the GPO-PAP method. Data analysis was performed with Annova test followed by Bonferroni test. The statistical test results showed that there were significant differences between each treatment group. The P3 group showed a lower average triglyceride level than P4 although it was still higher than P2. This showed that administration of green grape extract has an effect on decreasing serum triglyceride levels in all.

Abstract

Bacterial contamination can come from the environment as a result of food production processes in the form of biological, chemical and foreign matter contaminants that can interfere with, harm and endanger human health. One of the problems in the processed food sector is the high level of bacterial contamination in the food served on the market. The condition of open food is also the main factor causing food to be contaminated with bacteria. The Total Plate Count (ALT) or total plate count (TPC) is an examination used to determine the number of microorganisms both bacteria and fungi using solid media with the final result being colonies. The aim of the study was to determine bacterial contamination and to determine the total plate number (ALT) of bacterial colonies in smoked fish sold at Ngemplak Market, Tulungagung. This research used a Simple Random Design (RAS) method with four treatments and 3 repetitions. The results showed that for menot fish it was 16.2 x 105 cfu/g, for tuna it was 10.5 x 105 cfu/g, for tuna it was 9.4 x 105 cfu/g, for bader fish it was 16.4 x 105 cfu/g. g, and in whitefish 20.5 x 105 cfu/g. The conclusion is that the bacterial contamination of smoked fish sold at the Ngemplak Market using the ALT method exceeds the normal limit value set by SNI 2725:2013.
