Abstract

This study aims to identify strategies employed by English teachers to enhance high school students’ speaking skills and to explore the challenges encountered in speaking instruction. A descriptive qualitative design was applied, with data collected through semi-structured interviews involving nine teachers from three sub-districts in Southwest Aceh. Data analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing with verification. The findings reveal that the strategies used include direct practice, role play, grammar translation, group discussion, interviews, cooperative learning, listen-and-repeat, video dialogue, and filler activities such as singing, games, icebreakers, and warm-ups. The most frequently implemented strategy was direct practice, proven effective in improving students’ fluency, accuracy, and confidence. However, teachers faced challenges such as limited study time at home, low motivation, lack of vocabulary, inattentiveness, and low self-confidence. The study recommends integrating interactive strategies with educational technology and fostering a supportive learning environment to encourage students to speak confidently and stay motivated.

Abstract

This quasi-experimental study investigated the effect of the storytelling technique on the English-speaking skills of elementary school students. A purposive sampling method was used to select 29 fifth-grade students each from two classes: Class 5A served as the experimental group, and Class 5B as the control group. The experimental class was taught using the storytelling technique, while the control class received conventional instruction. A pre-test and post-test design was employed to assess students’ speaking abilities, focusing on pronunciation and vocabulary. Data were collected through an oral test consisting of five descriptive questions. The results showed a significant improvement in the experimental group’s speaking performance. The average pre-test score in the experimental group was 23.67, which increased to 66.40 in the post-test, while the control group’s post-test score averaged 57.22. A t-test analysis revealed a statistically significant difference between the groups (t = 2.26 > tₜₐᵦₗₑ = 1.673). These findings suggest that the storytelling technique is effective in enhancing elementary students’ English-speaking abilities, particularly in pronunciation and vocabulary development.

Abstract

Indonesian language literacy skills in elementary schools still face challenges, especially in writing skills, and relatively low student learning engagement. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Think Talk Write (TTW) learning model assisted by Kahoot in improving Indonesian language learning outcomes of fourth-grade elementary school students with a focus on descriptive text writing skills. The study used a classroom action research approach implemented in two cycles with the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the study were 20 fourth-grade students selected purposively. Data were collected through observation, essay tests, and questionnaires, then analyzed descriptively. The results showed that in the pre-cycle, student engagement only reached 25% with an average score of 57.95 and learning completeness of 30%. After the implementation of TTW assisted by Kahoot in the first cycle, student engagement increased to 60% with an average score of 70.5 and completeness of 65%. In the second cycle, student engagement reached 85% with an average score of 84.8 and learning completeness of 90%. These improvements reflect that the implementation of Kahoot-assisted TTW not only increased students' active participation in discussions and the use of interactive digital media but also significantly improved their writing skills. In conclusion, the Kahoot-assisted TTW model is effective in increasing student engagement and learning outcomes gradually throughout the learning cycle, as well as providing practical contributions to innovative and relevant learning strategies for 21st-century digital literacy needs.

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is a crucial component in English as a Foreign Language learning, as it directly influences students’ ability to listen, speak, read, and write effectively. However, many junior high school students demonstrate low motivation when learning vocabulary through conventional, lecture-based methods. This study aimed to explore students’ perceptions of using crossword puzzles as a medium for learning English vocabulary and its impact on their learning motivation. A descriptive qualitative design was employed, involving seventh-grade students from MTsN 3 Aceh Barat Daya. One class of 30 students was purposively selected as the sample. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and documentation, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s (1994) interactive model. The findings reveal that crossword puzzles significantly increased students’ motivation, engagement, and vocabulary retention. Students reported enjoying the challenge and collaborating actively with peers, while observations showed high levels of participation and persistence in completing the tasks. The study concludes that crossword puzzles provide a simple, flexible, and effective strategy for fostering emotional, cognitive, and social engagement in vocabulary learning, and they can be adapted for other foreign language contexts to address low learning motivation

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' perceptions of the role of Grammarly and QuillBot as artificial intelligence (AI)-based tools for providing feedback in writing instruction. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research was conducted at three senior high schools in Lhoksumawe, Indonesia, with 12 purposively selected respondents based on their prior experience using both applications. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews lasting 30 - 45 minutes, analyzed using thematic analysis, and validated through data triangulation and member checking. The findings indicate that the majority of students perceived Grammarly as effective in detecting grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors, with its explanatory features aiding their understanding of error patterns. QuillBot was regarded as superior in paraphrasing, enriching linguistic variation, and reducing plagiarism risks. Both tools accelerated the revision process, enhanced confidence, and improved language accuracy. However, identified challenges included limitations of free features, potential meaning distortions in paraphrasing, cultural-context mismatches, and risks of overreliance. The findings underscore the importance of a "human-in-the-loop" model that integrates AI's speed and consistency with teacher validation and contextual assessment. This blended feedback strategy holds potential for improving writing quality while fostering students' critical thinking and self-evaluation skills. The study recommends AI literacy training, restricted use in final revision stages, and classroom discussions based on AI-generated corrections to promote more reflective and effective writing instruction.

Abstract

Building construction projects often face major challenges related to time management and cost allocation. Cost overruns occur as a result of schedule delays or poor time planning. Managing time well can help reduce cost overruns and improve operational efficiency in construction projects. Project delays often cause additional costs or cost overruns, either due to the use of additional resources or due to the impact of delays on other factors. To determine the magnitude of the influence of Project Performance in Infrastructure Development, the variance extraced for time is 0.646, quality 0.867, budget 0.918, and infrastructure development 0.726, it can be concluded that too much budget is needed to meet rapid development. This cost overrun often has a significant impact on project success, both in terms of finance and the quality of the final result. This occurs due to project delays, which are caused by ineffective time management. In the construction industry, time and cost are two very important and interrelated factors.

Abstract

This study employed a qualitative descriptive design to explore the opportunities and challenges perceived by health students at STIKES Darussalam Lhokseumawe in utilizing AI for English language learning. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 18 purposively selected students from the nursing program and analyzed using a thematic analysis approach. The findings revealed three overarching themes. First, students recognized AI as a powerful facilitator of personalized learning, providing on-demand, context-specific practice in medical English through chatbots and writing tools. Second, they navigated significant challenges, including anxiety over AI hallucinations and concerns about superficial learning and skill atrophy. Third, a crucial institutional guidance vacuum was identified, where the absence of formal policies or pedagogical support amplified these challenges and created ethical ambiguities. The study concludes that while students are proactively and resourcefully leveraging AI, the full potential of these tools is hindered without institutional scaffolding. This research underscores the urgent need for pedagogical integration, clear ethical guidelines, and faculty development to transform AI from a precarious, student-driven tool into an effectively supported educational resource

Abstract

This study is entitled “Building Customer Loyalty of Indihome Bireuen: The Role of Product Quality, Marketing Strategy, and Brand Image.” The purpose of this research is to analyze the influence of product quality, marketing strategy, and brand image on Indihome customer loyalty in Bireuen Regency. The study was conducted in Kota Juang District, precisely in Pulo Ara Geudong Teungeh Village, Aceh Province, involving 108 Indihome customers as respondents. The findings indicate that product quality and brand image have a positive and significant effect on customer loyalty, where service attributes such as internet speed, network stability, and Indihome’s reputation as part of Telkom Indonesia play a crucial role in maintaining customer commitment. Meanwhile, marketing strategy does not have a significant partial effect; however, when combined, the three variables (product quality, marketing strategy, and brand image) exert a significant influence on customer loyalty, with a coefficient of determination of 78.4%. These results imply that managing product quality and strengthening brand image should be prioritized, alongside refining marketing strategies to better align with the characteristics of the local community. This research is expected to provide valuable insights for Indihome’s management in formulating strategies to retain customer loyalty and to serve as a reference for future studies in similar contexts.
