Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)-based game-based learning on the critical thinking ability and numeracy literacy of fourth-grade students at SDN Lambunu, Parigi Moutong Regency. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design was employed. The sample consisted of 56 students divided into experimental and control groups. Research instruments included validated critical thinking and numeracy literacy tests. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene's homogeneity test, independent sample t-test, and N-gain score. The results revealed significant differences between the two groups in critical thinking (t = 9.847; p = 0.000) and numeracy literacy (t = 10.213; p = 0.000). The experimental group's posttest mean was substantially higher than the control group on both variables. The experimental group's N-gain scores of 0.61 and 0.60 fell within the moderate category, whereas the control group remained in the low category. It is concluded that HOTS-based game-based learning is proven effective in improving elementary students' critical thinking and numeracy literacy, and is worthy of broader implementation in primary education, particularly in remote area contexts.

Abstract

The low level of higher-order thinking skills among elementary school students in mathematics remains a significant concern that demands systematic and in-depth examination. This study aims to: (1) describe the profile of elementary students' thinking abilities based on the Structure of Observed Learning Outcomes (SOLO) taxonomy; (2) identify the dominant SOLO taxonomy level achieved by students in solving mathematical Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) problems; and (3) analyze the factors contributing to differences in students' SOLO taxonomy levels. This study employs a literature review method (library research) with a qualitative content analysis approach applied to ten relevant and verified scientific sources. The findings reveal that the thinking ability profile of elementary school students is predominantly concentrated at the multistructural level, where students can utilize more than one piece of information but are unable to integrate it comprehensively and coherently. Achievement at the relational and extended abstract levels remains considerably limited. Factors influencing these variations include cognitive style, metacognitive ability, prior mathematical knowledge, and instructional methods applied by teachers. This study affirms that the SOLO taxonomy serves as an effective diagnostic instrument for mapping the quality of students' thinking in a hierarchical and comprehensive manner.

Abstract

This study analyzes the dynamics of the relationship between the Jakarta Composite Index (JCI), the benchmark interest rate (BI-7DRR), and the rupiah exchange rate (IDR/USD) with global volatility (VIX), the US stock market (S&P 500), and world gold prices in the period January 2021– December 2025. Using the Vector Autoregression (VAR)/Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) approach with monthly data , this study applies the Johansen cointegration test , Impulse Response Function (IRF), and Forecast Error Variance Decomposition (FEVD). The results of the study found six cointegration vectors that confirmed a strong long -term equilibrium relationship between all variables . The IRF analysis shows that a positive shock to the VIX produces a persistent negative response to the JCI ( reaching -58.60 in the 10th period ), while the shock to the S&P 500 produces a positive response that continues to strengthen (101.39 in the 10th period ). An interesting finding shows that positive shocks to gold prices and the BI-7DRR actually generate a positive response to the JCI, contrary to conventional theoretical predictions . Exchange rate depreciation generates a persistent negative response to the JCI. The FEVD results reveal that the JCI's own-shock contributes 84.10% to its variation , followed by the S&P 500 (8.91%), gold prices ( 8.92%), and the JCI's own-shock (8.91%). (4.57% ) , VIX (1.65%), exchange rate (0.50%), and BI-7DRR (0.27%). Global factors collectively contributed 15.13% to the JCI's fluctuations , far exceeding domestic policy variables (0.77%), confirming that the Indonesian capital market in the post-pandemic period was largely driven by the dynamics of the global financial cycle .

Abstract

The education sector plays a vital role in imparting religious, secular, and social knowledge. Technological advancements have transformed educational methods, evolving from the use of stone inscriptions to the boundless digital era. Instructional media has shifted from handwriting and computers to touchscreens, driving rapid innovation in the field. Electronic media—ranging from slide projectors, overhead projectors (OHP), and LCDs to Digital Interactive Boards (DIB)—have streamlined the teaching and learning process. This evolution warrants a closer look at how instructional media technology has developed and the advantages digital media offers over conventional alternatives. Consequently, this article aims to explicitly examine the evolution of instructional media technology in education and identify the key advantages of digital media over conventional media. It employs a literature review and observational analysis of media evolution—spanning from the era of inscriptions to the digital age—with a specific focus on electronic media from the early 1980s to the present. The analysis reveals that these advancements have enhanced the speed, ease, and accuracy of content delivery: image-based media foster a unified understanding of the material among students; text-based media reduce the time teachers spend writing manually; and modern digital media, such as DIBs and touchscreens, provide intuitive interfaces that facilitate comprehension through natural movement and habits, rather than requiring strenuous cognitive effort. In conclusion, the evolution of instructional media technology has significantly impacted the efficiency and effectiveness of the teaching and learning process. Given their superiority in terms of ease of use, speed, accuracy, and intuitiveness, digital media are recommended for wider adoption in modern schools.
