Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum can potentially improve educational standards by fostering appreciation for regional culture and local wisdom. Indonesia's rich cultural heritage offers opportunities to integrate indigenous knowledge into biology education, yet local wisdom remains underexplored in scientific education. This study focuses on the Lemea fermentation tradition of the Rejang Lebong community in Bengkulu, a unique example of local wisdom applicable to the biology curriculum. Using ethnopedagogy, the study bridges the gap between Indigenous and scientific knowledge, aligning with the Merdeka Curriculum's emphasis on character education and cultural appreciation. This literature review, supported by interviews with local experts, examines the scientific relevance of the Lemea fermentation process in topics such as biotechnology, metabolism, bacteria, etc. Interviews with teachers also highlight challenges and opportunities in implementing Lemea as a learning resource. The findings show that the Indigenous knowledge behind Lemea fermentation can be transformed into scientific concepts, supporting high school biology learning outcomes in Phases E and F. This research contributes to the development of ethnopedagogy as an innovative approach and model in science education and offers a model for curriculum design under the Merdeka Curriculum, aligning educational practices with local cultural values to create meaningful and contextual learning experiences.

Abstract

MSMEs are critical to economic growth but often face challenges that limit their performance. The research examines the influence of information technology, Total Quality Management (TQM), training, rewards, and level of education on the performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Padang. The research population comprised all MSME business actors in Padang, totaling 42,452 business units. The number of samples was determined using the Slovin formula; therefore, the number of samples in this study was 397 units. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires. Data analysis will be performed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with Smart-PLS software. The research results show that information technology, training, and education levels positively and significantly influence the MSME's performance. However, TQM and reward do not have a significant influence on MSMEs in Padang. This research recommends that MSMEs utilize and use information technology in their operations. Then, MSME business people must include employees in functional training and select employees with a higher level of education. This research contributes to understanding how Information Technology, Total Quality Management, Training, Reward, and Education collectively impact MSMEs' performance, providing valuable insights for improving their operational efficiency and growth.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the learning motivation level of indigenous Papuan students at Universitas Cenderawasih, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Using the Explanatory Sequential Design model, a mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative methods sequentially. A sample of 118 FKIP students was randomly selected from each study program, including indigenous Papuan students and students from other regions. We analyzed the data using descriptive statistical techniques and obtained qualitative data through interviews. The results indicated that students' learning motivation was influenced by two main factors: intrinsic motivation, which was found to be high, reflected in students' intrinsic motivation to learn, a sense of personal responsibility, and satisfaction when mastering complex material. Extrinsic motivation also played a role, though at a moderate level. Extrinsic factors such as family support, lecturers, and the desire to make parents proud were key motivators for academic achievement. This study contributes to understanding the motivational dynamics of indigenous Papuan students and offers insights for developing more effective and culturally sensitive educational policies and strategies.

Abstract

In most developing countries like Ghana, very little attention is paid to depression due to the lack of mental health education, which has resulted in the high levels of stigmatization faced by persons living with cognitive conditions. Coupled with the negative perceptions about the condition, the few mental health facilities in the country are under-resourced. This study aimed to identify the existing depression treatment models at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and examine the roles of selected performing arts in depression care to guide the creation of a culturally sensitive depression treatment model. Primary data for this qualitative phenomenological study were gathered from five persons with depression, five mental healthcare professionals of the KATH Psychiatry Unit, and two cultural experts from the Centre for National Culture, Kumasi. Findings in this research indicated that a culturally sensitive model at KATH, employing performing arts, could enhance the moods of persons with depression, improve their outcomes, and reduce their hospital stay, boost their self-esteem and social interaction. Incorporating a culturally sensitive model into depression care at KATH to augment the existing treatment models has been established to be a revolutionary development in mental healthcare delivery at KATH.

Abstract

Regional culture still feels foreign to the ears of elementary school students because students rarely receive material or content from regional culture. A one-group pretest-posttest experimental design was employed. Thirty-seven fifth-grade elementary school students participated. Data was collected through pre-and post-tests and analyzed using SPSS 24 to assess the intervention's normality, homogeneity, and effectiveness using a paired samples t-test. Folklore stories from West Java, West Sumatra, and Riau were used as learning materials. The results revealed a statistically significant difference in students' scores before and after using the digital flipbooks, indicating increased learning outcomes. Storytelling proved to be a particularly engaging method within the flipbook learning experience. Digital flipbooks are an effective tool for teaching regional literature and fostering cultural understanding among elementary school students. Digital flipbooks are interactive online publications that simulate the experience of flipping through a physical book, allowing users to view, navigate, and engage with content in a digital format. The use of storytelling within the flipbook enhanced student engagement. Schools should incorporate diverse and engaging cultural learning resources. This study contributes to the field of education by demonstrating the practical application of digital flipbooks in cultural learning and provides evidence-based support for their integration into elementary school curricula. The findings suggest that interactive multimedia resources are valuable for promoting cultural appreciation and literacy development.
