Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Quantum Reading method as an instructional innovation for improving reading comprehension among fifth-grade students at SDN Karangduren 01 Balung Jember, Indonesia. The research was motivated by students' low reading literacy, limited ability to identify main ideas, weak reading fluency, and the dominance of teacher-centered reading instruction. Using an explanatory mixed-methods design with a one-group pretest-posttest model supported by qualitative inquiry, this study involved 19 fifth-grade students, one classroom teacher, and the school principal. Quantitative data were obtained through a reading comprehension test, while qualitative data were collected through classroom observation, interviews, and documentation. The intervention was conducted in four meetings using seven stages of Quantum Reading: recognition, assimilation, intra-integration, extra-integration, storage, recall, and communication. The findings indicate a substantial improvement in students' reading outcomes: the mean score increased from 66.84 to 86.32, learning mastery rose from 36.84% to 94.74%, and the normalized gain reached 0.59, which falls into the moderate category. Qualitative findings show that students became more motivated, confident, focused, and able to connect reading texts with their daily experiences. From an Islamic educational perspective, Quantum Reading is pedagogically relevant because it supports meaningful learning, active engagement with knowledge, the cultivation of learning adab, and the holistic development of students' cognitive, affective, social, and spiritual potential. This study contributes to literacy learning by demonstrating that reading instruction can be improved through joyful, multisensory, contextual, and value-oriented classroom practices in elementary education.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the ethical crisis and declining integrity in contemporary leadership practices, particularly within educational and organizational contexts. The research aims to examine the concept of Islamic leadership in Taj al-Salatin and analyze its relevance to contemporary Islamic educational leadership through the perspective of spiritual leadership theory. This study employs a qualitative library research design using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. A total of 30 academic sources, including journal articles, books, and relevant scholarly publications, were systematically analyzed through thematic coding techniques consisting of open coding, axial coding, and selective coding to identify the core dimensions of leadership values in Taj al-Salatin. The findings reveal that the leadership values in Taj al-Salatin can be integrated with contemporary spiritual leadership theory through six principal dimensions: transcendence, morality and personal character, justice and trustworthiness, governance ethics, spiritual development, and leadership succession. The novelty of this study lies in constructing an integrative conceptual framework that bridges classical Islamic leadership values with modern spiritual leadership discourse within the context of Islamic educational leadership. The study contributes theoretically to the development of Islamic educational leadership studies and practically offers an ethical-spiritual leadership model applicable in Islamic educational institutions and contemporary organizations in addressing moral, ethical, and integrity crises.

Abstract

Education in Indonesia continues to face complex challenges related to policy inconsistency, unequal access, curriculum implementation, infrastructure gaps, and character formation. In the context of Islamic education, these issues are important because education is expected not only to develop knowledge and skills but also to cultivate moral, spiritual, and social values. This study aims to explore prospective teachers' perspectives on the condition of Indonesian education through photovoice and to examine its implications for Islamic education practice and character formation. This study employed a participatory qualitative approach using photovoice. The participants were 25 prospective teachers from four higher education institutions: 7 students from Al-Qur'an Science University Wonosobo, 8 students from Sebelas Maret University Surakarta, 5 students from the University of Muhammadiyah Lampung, and 5 students from the Open University. Data were collected through selected photographs, written narratives, and focus group discussions and were analyzed thematically. The findings reveal three main themes: prospective teachers' criticism of unstable and less effective educational policies, educational inequality in facilities, technology, and learning opportunities, and the need to strengthen character-oriented education. Viewed from the perspective of Islamic education, these findings indicate that educational practice should be more equitable, values-oriented, and responsive to learners' moral and spiritual development. This study suggests that Islamic education in Indonesia needs to strengthen value-based learning, improve access to quality education, and integrate Islamic moral values into character-formation practices.
