Abstract

This study aims to explore efforts to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in Banjarmasin Class IIA Correctional Institution. The methods used in this study included observation and interviews with prisoners and health workers to gain an in-depth understanding of the health conditions and prevention practices implemented. The results showed that prevention measures taken include initial health checks for new inmates, including health history assessment and HIV testing for those at high risk. In addition, health socialization is conducted through routine programs such as morning exercises to raise awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Findings also revealed that factors contributing to the transmission of STDs include deviant sexual behavior, institutional overcapacity, and the lack of awareness of prisoners towards their health. This study emphasizes the importance of a holistic approach in addressing health issues in prisons, which focuses not only on treatment but also on health education and counseling as an effective prevention strategy. The results are expected to provide recommendations for prison managers in creating a safer and healthier environment for prisoners. Keywords: Infectious Diseases; Sexual; Correctional Institutions

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Pesantren Kilat (short-term Islamic boarding school) program during Ramadan to develop the personality of prisoners at Class IIA Bengkulu Penitentiary. This research employed a qualitative method, collecting data through field observations, interviews, and literature studies. Data analysis was conducted using data reduction techniques and the NVIVO 12 software to identify themes and keyword frequencies such as "pesantren" and "penitentiary." The findings revealed that the program was well-structured, involving students, instructors, and a clear schedule, despite challenges related to limited human resources within the penitentiary. However, the involvement of external instructors ensured the smooth operation of the program. The results indicate a high level of enthusiasm among prisoners in participating in the program to deepen their understanding of Islam. The Pesantren Kilat-based coaching was effective in enhancing their religious comprehension and behavior, though challenges such as the lack of voluntary participation from some prisoners were observed. This program is expected to be an effective step in facilitating positive character development and reducing recidivism, enabling prisoners to become better individuals and contribute to society after completing their sentences. Abstract

The purpose of writing this article is to evaluate the extent of health services for vulnerable groups in correctional institutions. The method used is a literature study, which includes a comprehensive, systematic, critical, and structured review of literature related to the research topic, such as relevant articles or scientific works and legislation related to the theme. The results of the analysis show that there are various obstacles in fulfilling health services for vulnerable group prisoners, including minimal medical facilities and infrastructure, a lack of professional health workers, limited budgets in correctional institutions, no health insurance, and a lack of moral and material support from the prisoners' families. Thus, it can be concluded that health services for vulnerable group prisoners in correctional institutions are still not optimal due to various obstacles that have not found effective and efficient solutions. Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the Brantas Buta Baca Al-Qur'an Program at Class IIA Banceuy Bandung Penitentiary, which is designed to increase religious awareness and develop the personality of prisoners. This study uses a qualitative method with an observation approach, document study, and in-depth interviews with the Head of Binadik, Bimkemaswat staff, two mentors from prisoners, and two prisoners. The background of this study focuses on the low participation of prisoners in the coaching program, most of whom come from criminal backgrounds such as theft, corruption, narcotics, and murder, as well as minimal understanding of religion. The findings of the study indicate that this program, although supported by a strong legal basis and adequate facilities, still faces obstacles such as low participation of prisoners, limited teaching staff, and age challenges in the learning process. Nevertheless, this program has succeeded in increasing the ability to read the Qur'an and religious awareness among participating prisoners. Suggestions for increasing the effectiveness of the program include increasing prisoner motivation through socialization, adding teaching staff, and special approaches for elderly prisoners. With these steps, it is hoped that this program can be more effective in achieving its goals, namely to foster prisoners to have better personalities and be ready to return to society with a deeper understanding of religion. Abstract

This study aims to examine the personal hygiene behavior of female inmates' genitalia at Class IIB Pacitan Prison and identify the factors influencing it. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study found that although prisoners generally exhibit good hygiene behavior, there are still some obstacles that need to be addressed. Limited facilities, lack of female medical personnel, and minimal socialization regarding reproductive health are the main hindering factors. These findings indicate the importance of comprehensive efforts to improve the quality of reproductive health services in correctional facilities to meet the basic rights of female inmates. Abstract

The psychological well-being of inmates serving as kitchen trustees needs to be considered as an effort to maintain their security, order, motivation, and work quality in their daily tasks. This will affect their self-acceptance, positive relationships with others, autonomy, environmental mastery, life purpose, and self-development, enabling them to maximize their assistance to officers in providing daily meals to inmates, whose numbers are disproportionate to the existing kitchen trustees. This study uses the psychological well-being theory to understand the psychological well-being of inmates working as kitchen trustees. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, utilizing both primary and secondary data sources, which include interviews, observations, and document studies. We conducted data analysis through the processes of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate the need for an evaluation of the motives and reasons inmates become kitchen trustees, the weakening of positive relationships with others, difficulties in performing daily activities, handling challenges and shortages as kitchen trustees, unclear life vision, and the underdevelopment of their potential.
