Abstract

This research is motivated by the low level of students' critical thinking skills in Natural Science learning, which stems from students' lack of activity and the implementation of teaching models that do not emphasize critical thinking skills. This study aims to determine the difference in critical thinking skills between the experimental class, which utilized the PhET simulation-aided Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model, and the control class, which utilized the Cooperative Learning model. Furthermore, it aims to analyze the difference in the improvement of critical thinking skills between the two groups. This research adopts a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental research type and a non-equivalent control group design. The subjects of this study were sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Cimaranten. Data were collected using a test instrument consisting of 6 essay questions. Based on the results, it can be concluded that: (1) there is a significant difference in critical thinking skills between the experimental class using the PhET simulation-aided PBL model and the control class using the Cooperative Learning model; (2) there is a significant difference in the improvement of critical thinking skills between the experimental class and the control class.

Abstract

This study aims to examine how teachers’ roles as motivators and facilitators are enacted to improve students’ learning outcomes in history education at the secondary level. Despite extensive literature on motivational teaching or facilitative pedagogy, integrated analyses of both roles within history learning contexts remain limited. This research contributes a motivational–facilitative pedagogical construct that conceptualizes the synergy between affective encouragement and student-centered facilitation. Empirical evidence indicates that consistent motivational reinforcement and facilitative classroom practices were associated with observable improvements in students’ engagement, participation, and learning discipline. Employing a qualitative multi-case study design, this research was conducted in a vocational secondary school context. Data were collected through non-participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis. The study involved eight informants, consisting of one principal, one vice principal for curriculum, two history teachers, and four students. Data analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with source and technique triangulation ensuring data credibility. The findings reveal three key results: (1) teachers’ motivational strategies strengthened students’ learning persistence and classroom discipline; (2) facilitative practices fostered critical thinking, confidence, and active participation; and (3) the integration of both roles created a supportive learning climate that significantly enhanced history learning outcomes.

Abstract

The urgency of strengthening Qur'anic values in the modern education system is becoming increasingly important in the midst of moral crises and spiritual disorientation of students in the era of globalization and digitalization. This research aims to analyze and implement the philosophy of Islamic education sourced from the Qur'an into classroom learning practices. The approach used is qualitative research with the library research method through thematic analysis of Qur'anic verses, classical and contemporary interpretations, and relevant modern research results. The results of the study show that the implementation of the philosophy of Islamic education includes three main dimensions, namely the spiritual dimension that fosters the awareness of monotheism and worship orientation; an intellectual dimension that develops the ability to reflect on revelation; and the moral-social dimension that shapes the morals, righteous deeds, and social responsibilities of students. These three dimensions form a holistic education framework that unites faith, knowledge, and charity, and is the basis for strengthening the character of the Qur'ani in the context of the Independent Curriculum. This research contributes to the development of the philosophy of Islamic education by emphasizing the importance of integrating spiritual, intellectual, and moral values in the formation of human beings. In conclusion, Islamic education oriented to the Qur'an is able to answer the moral and social challenges of modern society. Further research is recommended to conduct field studies to test the effectiveness of the application of Qur'anic values in the context of empirical learning.

Abstract

Abstract Language teaching in higher education is increasingly required to respond to global challenges, including environmental sustainability and the growing role of multimodality in literacy practices. This mini research aims to analyse students’ learning needs and lecturers’ perspectives on language instruction that integrates multimodal approaches and ecolinguistics perspectives. The study employed a qualitative descriptive approach using a needs analysis design. Data were collected through student questionnaires, in depth interviews with reading course lectures, and an analysis of teaching materials entitled Ecological Awareness in Modern Society. The findings indicate that students require language learning materials that address environmental issues and are presented through multiple modes, such as texts, visuals, and digital media, to enhance comprehension and engagement. Lecturers perceive that multimodal ecolinguistics based instruction can foster students’ critical literacy, ecological awareness, and language skills, although challenges remain in terms of material availability and instructional readiness. This study suggests the development of multimodal ecolinguistics based language learning materials as an innovative strategy to support contextual and sustainable language education in higher education. Abstract

Reading comprehension is a fundamental skill that must be mastered by elementary school students, particularly in understanding literary texts such as short stories. However, classroom practices in elementary schools often reveal persistent challenges, including students’ limited ability to comprehend texts, identify narrative elements, and retell story content effectively. This study aims to examine the effect of the reading aloud method on improving short story reading skills among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Tiakur. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was employed by implementing the reading aloud method in reading instruction. The research subjects consisted of fifth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a short story reading skills test and analyzed through inferential statistical techniques. The findings indicate that the reading aloud method has a significant effect on enhancing students’ reading skills, particularly in terms of reading comprehension, pronunciation accuracy, intonation, and the ability to retell story content. These results suggest that reading aloud not only improves technical aspects of reading but also fosters students’ cognitive and affective engagement in the learning process. Therefore, the reading aloud method is recommended as an effective instructional strategy for improving short story reading skills in elementary school settings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students’ numeracy errors in solving contextual mathematical problems based on Polya’s problem-solving stages and numeracy literacy framework. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach by analyzing students’ written responses to a contextual problem involving calculation of total purchase cost. Data were analyzed using Polya’s four stages: understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and looking back. The findings revealed that students’ errors predominantly occurred in the early stages of problem solving, particularly in understanding the problem and devising a solution strategy. Students demonstrated partial identification of relevant information and showed difficulties in mathematical modelling, especially in connecting unit price concepts with quantity relationships. Despite these difficulties, students exhibited adequate procedural skills during arithmetic calculations. However, metacognitive reflection was absent, as students did not verify or evaluate their solutions. These findings suggest that numeracy difficulties are more closely related to conceptual understanding and modelling processes rather than computational skills. The study highlights the importance of instructional approaches that emphasize contextual interpretation, mathematical modelling, and reflective thinking to enhance students’ numeracy literacy

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the psychological aspects of the main character in the novel Seporsi Mie Ayam Before Death by Brian Khrisna using Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory as the main foundation. The method used is a qualitative approach with content analysis techniques. The focus of the research is on the interaction of Freud's three personality structures, namely id, ego, and superego in describing the inner conflicts experienced by the character. The results of the analysis show that the conflict between the instinctive impulse (id) to avoid suffering, the mechanism of self-control (ego), and moral demands or social norms (superego) form a realistic and complex psychological picture of the character. This dynamic also reveals how the characters struggle to find meaning in life in conditions of depression and existential crisis. This study shows that Freud's psychoanalytic approach is effective for the study of literary psychology in exploring mental health problems and the search for meaning in contemporary Indonesian literary works.
