Abstract

This article explores the thoughts of a character namely John Shelby Spong with his radical idea of Jesus of Nazareth. Spong highlights Jesus not from a doctrinal point of view as institutional Christianity continues to echo. The Jesus echoed here is Jesus from a human perspective, a real character who lived in a place and time in the past. His life is more about humanizing humans who bring equality. John Shelby Spong was Bishop of the Episcopal Church of Newark, New Jersey from 1976 to 2000. His radical writings and lectures have challenged Christianity for many years. There are so many thoughts about the Christian faith which of course he criticizes radically, but in this paper, the researcher focuses on Spong's interpretive thoughts about Jesus of Nazareth and his practical actions. This paper uses a qualitative approach to literature that highlights certain figures. Of course, the discussion will center on the context of Spong's thought reconstructing Jesus of Nazareth the Jew. From the results of the discussion, it can be said that Jesus in Spong's thinking is a character who revives, and humanizes humans, destroys ethnic boundaries, and Jewish exclusivity, equalizes men and women, and destroys the racial prejudices and stereotypes of his time. Those who are rejected are accepted by Jesus and see him as a complete human being. That's the Jesus of Nazareth according to Spong that Christianity must live today.

Abstract

This article describes the implementation of contextual theology models as transculturation contextualization of the evangelism to the Tugutil ethnic in Halmahera, North Maluku. The research was carried out using a qualitative ethnographic type approach built by literature studies on elements in local theology which include the inculturation of belief in God, man, sin and salvation. The purpose of this research is to formulate models of contextual theology that are relevant to the Tugutil ethnicity by utilizing their local theology. The results of this study show that there are elements of local theology of the Tugutil people who are "relatively close" so that they can be “meted” with the teachings of the Bible through functional substitute or re-culturation. In addition, there are also elements that are "relatively distant" from the teachings of the Bible, so they must experience worldview substitute or de-culturation. The final results of this study show that by examining, identifying and analyzing elements of local theology adhered to by the Tugutil ethnicity, it is possible to find similarities (potentials and opportunities) as well as differences (crises) between the teachings of the Bible and their animist-dynamism beliefs. This makes it possible to carry out a contextual evangelistic approach by implementing certain contextual theological models as transculturation.

Abstract

“Spiritual Pairan” is a writing that aims to construct a new human theology in the context of Mamasa. This research starts from the problem of reducing cultural identity in the post-evangelism church conducted by Geleijnse. In addition, Aluk Mappurondo adherents claim to be "more Christian" than adherents of Christianity which is indicated by their more devout way of religion than adherents of Christianity. Responding to this problem, the author analyzes the text of Colossians 2:16-4:1 and the concept of pairan, to construct a contextual new human in Mamasa. The approach used by the author is a local theological approach. The author hopes that this approach can construct a new human concept that is contextual in Mamasa, so that the churches in Mamasa can show a quality of life that respects culture and displays ethical quality in their lives. After conducting the analysis, the writer finds that the new human construction in the Mamasa context is pairan spirituality. The author recommends that research on the encounter of each component in pairan with Christian traditions can be followed up, such as pairan dapo' with Christian families and pairan lembä with Christian leadership.

Abstract

Eschatology is one of the important doctrine in Christianity. The hope of the second coming of Christ into the world is an important reflection material for human being. The second coming of Christ does not only relate to the human condition after death. The second coming of Christ on earth does not only deal with humans (the dead and the living) but the bible also says that it relates to the determination of every believer to live in the new heavens and earth where this is known as heavens and the atmosphere of heaven will be experienced by human beings who believe now and then, meaning that the mandate given by God to humans to preserve and maintain the earth is a task that is accounted for now and later eschatologically. By using a literature-based qualitative research method, the authors examine in a narrative description the meaning of Eco-Theology for Christian eschatology. Eco-Theology is a tool that can be used by humans to make people see the world from a different perspective. Eco-Theology for eschatology has its significance in which by preserving nature, humans are making a new heaven and earth that can be felt by every creature. The recommendation of this research is to use eco-theology as part of practical theology, to embody heavens and earth concretely.
