Abstract

The rapid digital transformation in the disruptive era has profoundly affected students’ mental health and behavior, leading to increased emotional instability and juvenile delinquency among the so-called “Strawberry Generation.” This study is significant as it bridges the gap between modern technological approaches and Islamic spiritual guidance in student counseling. The research aims to develop a hybrid Islamic counseling model integrating artificial intelligence (AI) for early detection of psychological distress and Islamic values as spiritual interventions. Using a qualitative case study design at IBN Tegal, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and focus group discussions involving 15 students and three counselors. The findings reveal that the AI-assisted chatbot effectively identifies stress symptoms and provides Qur’anic verse recommendations, resulting in improved emotional control for 87% of participants. This hybrid model demonstrates that the synergy of AI technology and Islamic education fosters adaptive, responsive, and spiritually grounded mental health support for students. Abstract

This study investigates the impact of birth order on self-confidence and emotional stability among university students residing in wetland communities. Using a quantitative survey design, 200 students, comprising 100 firstborns and 100 lastborns, from Lambung Mangkurat University were assessed using the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule (EPPS). Descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney tests, and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) were used to analyze the data. Results indicated that firstborn students exhibited significantly higher self-confidence (M = 3.57, SD = 1.26) and emotional stability (M = 3.43, SD = 1.26) than lastborns (p < .05). Family expectations and academic experiences emerged as key influences. SEM revealed that self-confidence strongly predicts emotional stability (β = 0.52, p < .001), with family background and educational experience having moderate effects. The findings underscore the psychological challenges faced by students in geographically isolated, resource-limited wetland environments. Tailored counseling interventions are recommended, particularly for lastborn students. Future research should investigate the intersection of cross-cultural and environmental factors. Keywords: self-confidence, emotional stability, birth order, wetland communities, Edwards Personal Preference Schedule (EPPS)

Abstract

This study aims to describe interpersonal communication between children and parents in terms of gender, parental education level, and residential area, and to test the differences. The research method used ex post facto with a 2 x 3 x 2 factorial design. The study population consisted of adolescents in Batu Nadua District, Padangsidimpuan City, with a sample of 263 people selected through a combination of cluster random sampling and proportional random sampling. The research instrument was a Likert scale, while data analysis used descriptive statistics and ANOVA. The research findings show that interpersonal communication between children and parents is generally in the good category. Furthermore, there are differences in interpersonal communication between children and parents in terms of gender, where girls score higher than boys. At the same time, there are no differences in terms of parental education level and residential area. These findings have implications for the importance of guidance and counseling service programs, especially in family guidance. Abstract

The ability of young children to practice religion is one of the main objectives of kindergarten education, which is influenced by various internal and external factors of the school. However, research examining the simultaneous contribution of facility quality and teacher competence in supporting religious practice abilities is still limited. This study aims to analyze the influence of facility quality and teacher competence on religious practice abilities at RA Arrahman Pekanbaru. A quantitative method, involving a correlational survey, was employed, utilizing a 50-item Likert scale questionnaire and 60 respondents (parents). Regression analysis revealed that both variables were significantly influential, with an R² of 0.682; facility quality (β = 0.451) contributed more to the model than teacher competence (β = 0.392). These findings highlight the importance of integrating both tangible (facility quality) and intangible (teacher competence) factors in supporting the success of religious practice among kindergarten children. The uniqueness of this study lies in the empirical evidence of the dominance of facilities in the Indonesian context. Practical implications suggest that educational institution managers should balance investments in infrastructure and teacher capacity development to strengthen the implementation of religious values from an early age. Keywords: quality of facilities, teacher competence, religious practice ability, early childhood education, service quality

Abstract

Empowering coastal children is a complex developmental challenge requiring strategies that address psychological, social, and cultural dimensions within maritime communities. This systematic literature review examined how multicultural counseling, community asset development, and intercultural communication can enhance empowerment strategies. A systematic screening of academic databases over ten years yielded ten relevant studies from an initial 306 articles using strict inclusion criteria. Analysis identified convergence across three key dimensions: culturally sensitive pedagogical approaches, mobilization of community assets through linking resources and raising awareness of local capabilities, and universal communication patterns that transcend cultural boundaries. The integrative model highlighted the effectiveness of peer-led programs and experiential learning in promoting empowerment. Findings indicate that combining multicultural counseling principles, strategic community resource use, and intercultural communication creates a robust framework for coastal children’s development. This approach ensures cultural responsiveness while maintaining universal developmental principles, providing practical, evidence-based guidance for holistic empowerment interventions in diverse maritime settings. Abstract

Attitude toward casual sex can lead to various risky behaviors and therefore, needs to be further explored. This study was conducted in Indonesia, where religious and social norms are strongly against premarital sex, so the findings on the role of the Dark Tetrad may differ from the Western context. This study examined the role of the dark tetrad personality in predicting attitudes toward casual sex among 733 adults in Indonesia (Mage = 28.7, SD = 5.47, 50.1% male; 59.8% married), controlling for demographic factors (i.e., age, biological sex, and marital status). Hierarchical regression analysis revealed that psychopathy (β = 0.160) and sadism (β = 0.175) showed small to moderate effects in predicting permissive attitudes, accounting for an additional 7.9% variance after controlling for demographic factors. These findings highlight the psychological dimensions of permissive attitudes toward casual sex and demonstrate that dark personality traits have stronger predictive roles than demographic factors.  Keywords: attitude toward casual sex, dark tetrad, trait sadism, trait psychopathy, gender, marital status

Abstract

The consequences of transitioning to parenthood vary from individual to individual and can impact the quality of marriages. This study aims to analyze the role of parenting stress on marital satisfaction from the perspective of individuals and couples using the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM) approach. This study used a correlational quantitative method with measurements based on Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) on 132 married couples who were transitioning to new parenthood (age of the first child 0–2 years). The results showed a significant actor effect, where parenting stress hurt marital satisfaction in both husbands (β = –0.932, p < 0.001) and wives (β = –0.902, p < 0.001). From the aspect of partner effect, it was found that the stress of the wife's parenting has a significant impact on the husband's marital satisfaction (β = –0.377, p = 0.004), while the husband's parenting stress did not have a substantial effect on the wife's satisfaction (β = –0.282, p = 0.175). These findings indicate that emotional dynamics and parenting burdens not only impact individuals but also affect relationships within couples in an unbalanced way. This study emphasizes the importance of emotional support and fathers' involvement in parenting to maintain the quality of marital relationships in the early stages of parenting. Abstract

Self-talk is a critical cognitive process that influences emotional regulation, mental health, and overall well-being, making it a valuable tool in counseling practices. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to examine the role of self-talk in therapeutic settings, focusing on its impact on emotional regulation and psychological resilience within frameworks such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). A total of 28 peer-reviewed articles published between 2010 and 2024 were systematically analyzed using PRISMA guidelines to identify thematic trends and empirical patterns. The findings reveal a consistent increase in research on self-talk interventions over the last decade, highlighting their effectiveness in enhancing emotional stability, reducing anxiety and depression, and improving coping strategies. However, challenges remain in terms of clients’ resistance to cognitive restructuring, subjective variability in self-talk measurement, and the lack of standardized assessment tools. Future studies are encouraged to explore technology-based interventions and cross-cultural adaptations to improve accessibility and personalization. Keywords: self-talk, counseling, emotional regulation, cognitive behavioral therapy, mental health

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of Big Five personality traits and social media use on the happiness of adolescent users of platform X (Twitter). Platform X was chosen due to its high level of toxicity compared to other platforms (Norton, 2022), making it especially relevant for exploring digital well-being in adolescents. A total of 282 adolescents aged 12 to 21 years were selected using purposive sampling. Instruments used included the IPIP-BFM-25 Indonesia, the Social Networking Time Use Scale (SONTUS), and the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ). Data were analysed using multiple linear regression to examine both joint and partial effects. The results indicated that the independent variables jointly have a significant impact on happiness. Partially, Neuroticism and social media use had adverse effects, while Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Openness had positive effects. Conscientiousness showed no significant influence. These findings suggest the need for school-based interventions to strengthen adolescents’ emotional regulation and digital literacy. Keywords: personality, social media use, happiness, adolescents

Abstract

Psychological pressure can hinder students from performing optimally in academic settings. In response, self-compassion (SC) emerges as a crucial skill to help students manage stress and maintain mental health. While previous research has predominantly examined SC in clinical contexts, this study offers a novel perspective by investigating its application within an academic setting. The aim is to develop a theoretical model that explains the role of SC in addressing psychological academic challenges. A systematic literature review was conducted using the PRISMA model, supported by big data and visualized through VOS viewer. Using the Publish or Perish application, 505 articles were identified from Scopus- and Sinta-indexed journals (Elsevier, PubMed, Crossref, Google Scholar) published between 2019 and 2023. Nineteen articles were selected for in-depth analysis. The results reveal two academic categories: positive and negative. Self-compassion enhances variables in positive settings and moderates the effects of negative academic stressors. This research contributes to the design of psychological intervention strategies for students. Keywords: psychological academic challenges, big data, self-compassion, students
