Abstract

The consequences of transitioning to parenthood vary from individual to individual and can impact the quality of marriages. This study aims to analyze the role of parenting stress on marital satisfaction from the perspective of individuals and couples using the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM) approach. This study used a correlational quantitative method with measurements based on Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) on 132 married couples who were transitioning to new parenthood (age of the first child 0–2 years). The results showed a significant actor effect, where parenting stress hurt marital satisfaction in both husbands (β = –0.932, p < 0.001) and wives (β = –0.902, p < 0.001). From the aspect of partner effect, it was found that the stress of the wife's parenting has a significant impact on the husband's marital satisfaction (β = –0.377, p = 0.004), while the husband's parenting stress did not have a substantial effect on the wife's satisfaction (β = –0.282, p = 0.175). These findings indicate that emotional dynamics and parenting burdens not only impact individuals but also affect relationships within couples in an unbalanced way. This study emphasizes the importance of emotional support and fathers' involvement in parenting to maintain the quality of marital relationships in the early stages of parenting. Keywords: marital satisfaction, parenting stress, APIM, parenting transition

Abstract

Self-talk is a critical cognitive process that influences emotional regulation, mental health, and overall well-being, making it a valuable tool in counseling practices. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to examine the role of self-talk in therapeutic settings, focusing on its impact on emotional regulation and psychological resilience within frameworks such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). A total of 28 peer-reviewed articles published between 2010 and 2024 were systematically analyzed using PRISMA guidelines to identify thematic trends and empirical patterns. The findings reveal a consistent increase in research on self-talk interventions over the last decade, highlighting their effectiveness in enhancing emotional stability, reducing anxiety and depression, and improving coping strategies. However, challenges remain in terms of clients’ resistance to cognitive restructuring, subjective variability in self-talk measurement, and the lack of standardized assessment tools. Future studies are encouraged to explore technology-based interventions and cross-cultural adaptations to improve accessibility and personalization. Keywords: self-talk, counseling, emotional regulation, cognitive behavioral therapy, mental health

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of Big Five personality traits and social media use on the happiness of adolescent users of platform X (Twitter). Platform X was chosen due to its high level of toxicity compared to other platforms (Norton, 2022), making it especially relevant for exploring digital well-being in adolescents. A total of 282 adolescents aged 12 to 21 years were selected using purposive sampling. Instruments used included the IPIP-BFM-25 Indonesia, the Social Networking Time Use Scale (SONTUS), and the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (OHQ). Data were analysed using multiple linear regression to examine both joint and partial effects. The results indicated that the independent variables jointly have a significant impact on happiness. Partially, Neuroticism and social media use had adverse effects, while Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Openness had positive effects. Conscientiousness showed no significant influence. These findings suggest the need for school-based interventions to strengthen adolescents’ emotional regulation and digital literacy. Keywords: personality, social media use, happiness, adolescents

Abstract

Psychological pressure can hinder students from performing optimally in academic settings. In response, self-compassion (SC) emerges as a crucial skill to help students manage stress and maintain mental health. While previous research has predominantly examined SC in clinical contexts, this study offers a novel perspective by investigating its application within an academic setting. The aim is to develop a theoretical model that explains the role of SC in addressing psychological academic challenges. A systematic literature review was conducted using the PRISMA model, supported by big data and visualized through VOS viewer. Using the Publish or Perish application, 505 articles were identified from Scopus- and Sinta-indexed journals (Elsevier, PubMed, Crossref, Google Scholar) published between 2019 and 2023. Nineteen articles were selected for in-depth analysis. The results reveal two academic categories: positive and negative. Self-compassion enhances variables in positive settings and moderates the effects of negative academic stressors. This research contributes to the design of psychological intervention strategies for students. Keywords: psychological academic challenges, big data, self-compassion, students

Abstract

The phenomenon of men having sex with men (MSM) in adolescence is becoming a hot topic in almost all levels of society. This is because MSM certainly experiences psychological and sociological burdens. The purpose of this research is to find the configuration of MSM. This research uses a qualitative, phenomenological approach. Data collection was carried out using interview techniques (in-depth interviews) and documentation of 6 key informants and 4 supporting informants who met the criteria. Data were analyzed using MAXQDA software. Data validity testing used triangulation techniques and sources. The findings show that the MSM configuration comprises three phases fundamental, central, and dependency consistent with the theory of MSM identity formation. The fundamental phase is the initial phase; the central phase is the transitional phase; and the third phase is dependency, during which MSM adolescents begin to be active in MSM relationships. In this phase, adolescents experience sociological and psychological burdens. This study addresses the gap in scientific research by exploring the stages that MSM adolescents undergo in forming their identities. By doing so, it enriches the academic literature and serves as a foundation for future researchers in designing appropriate interventions for MSM adolescents. Keywords: resilience, adolescents, MSM

Abstract

Every individual has future career aspirations but often faces challenges in realising them. Early career awareness and planning through career exploration is an important factor in their achievement. In elementary school-aged children, this exploration is still at the fantasy stage, where they are interested in professions that they often see. This study examines the career fantasies of Generation Alpha and the factors that influence them. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, this study involved 100 students in grades 3-6 in a remote school in Lampung, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through an open-ended questionnaire related to professional interests, reasons for choosing a profession, and sources of information that influence career fantasies. The results showed that doctors, teachers, police, and soldiers were the most frequently chosen professions by students. Gender, family, school, and digital media influence career fantasies. The findings have implications for career education and guidance, supporting children's early career development. Keywords: career fantasies, alpha generation, digital technology, career development

Abstract

Self-talk is one strategy that can increase self-awareness. This research aims to design a self-talk multimedia product that meets feasibility criteria and effectively increases students' self-awareness. Using the Borg and Gall development model, data were obtained through expert assessments, user ratings, and self-awareness scales, which were validated using Aiken's V and tested for reliability using Cronbach's Alpha. Qualitative analysis was carried out on validator and user suggestions, while quantitative analysis used feasibility percentages and t-tests. The results of the study show that multimedia self-talk is suitable for use, with 80% of media experts and 97.1% of material experts. Paired t-tests revealed significant improvements in self-awareness (p < 0.05; pretest = 72.49; posttest = 76). These findings prove that multimedia self-talk is effective in increasing students' self-awareness. The implication is that this product can be an innovation in technology-based guidance and counseling services that support students' learning independence and self-reflection. Kata kunci: multimedia, self-talk, self-awareness
