Abstract

In a society still influenced by gender stereotypes, male and female adolescents tend to develop different self-concepts. This study aims to examine differences in self-concept among university students based on gender. Using a quantitative approach with a comparative design, the research involved 990 participants selected through a probability sampling method. Data were collected using a self-concept scale. Normality testing revealed that the data were not normally distributed (p < 0.005), whereas the homogeneity test indicated homogeneous data (p > 0.05). The Mann-Whitney test revealed a significant difference in self-concept between male and female students (p<0.05). Specifically, male students scored higher on the expectation aspect (Mean = 33), while female students scored higher on the self-evaluation aspect (Mean = 36). These findings highlight the importance of implementing gender-sensitive counseling services to support and strengthen adolescent self-concept in a balanced and inclusive manner. Abstract

Changes in the living environment and parental separation can trigger various emotional problems in students, including loneliness. This study quantitatively assessed the connection of family functioning, self-compassion, and loneliness to students’ perceptions of family and self among 76 students. Data was collected using psychological scales of loneliness (15 items, α=0.856), family functioning (28 items, α=0.855), and self-compassion (16 items, α=0.796). SPSS 24.0 for Windows was utilized for multiple regression analyses to explore relationships among the variables. Multiple regression analyses revealed significant negative associations between family functioning (β=−0.37,p<0.01), self-compassion (β=−0.521,p<0.01), and loneliness. Family functioning and self-compassion together accounted for 47.1% of the variance in loneliness (R2=0.471). This ascertained the need for proper and family-oriented self-compassion, particularly regarding alleviating loneliness for students who have been distanced from their families. This highlighted the need to employ comprehensive techniques and approaches to enhance the emotional support provided by families and various stakeholders to students. Abstract

Violation of the marriage age limit provisions is a complex issue and is often overlooked in the context of society. This study aims to explore violations of the marriage age limit from the perspective of counseling and education. In this study, the author employs a qualitative methodology with a descriptive approach, utilizing data collection techniques that include observation, documentation, and interviews, and data analysis based on the theory of Miles and Huberman. In this study, the author analyzes the factors that encourage violations, including social norms, economic pressures, and a lack of understanding of the long-term impacts of early marriage. Through a counseling approach, it is hoped that individuals and families can be given a better understanding of the importance of a healthy marriage age limit. In addition, education plays a crucial role in disseminating information and increasing public awareness of the risks and consequences of marriages that are not in accordance with the provisions. Additionally, early marriage can also impact the quality of education received by teenagers. They may not have equal access to quality education programs, or they may not have enough time to focus on their education. This study is expected to contribute to the development of more effective policies, education, and counseling programs that can reduce violations of the marriage age limit in society. Abstract

Negative emotions that arise when experiencing academic burnout need to be managed, a process known as emotional regulation. This study aims to investigate the relationship between emotional regulation and academic burnout among students at Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana. This research employed a quantitative method and a correlational design, with 153 students from Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana as participants. Data is collected using a simple random sampling technique. Emotional regulation was measured with the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) (α = 0.754), and academic burnout was measured with the Maslach Burnout Inventory Student Survey (MBI-SS) (α = 0.846). The results of this study showed a significant value of 0.003 (p < 0.05) and a correlation coefficient of -0.250, indicating that the higher the emotional regulation, the lower the academic burnout felt. This research can serve as a reference for the University to develop academic and non-academic policies that reduce academic pressure. Abstract

The rapid development of information technology, such as social media, can significantly impact daily life, including maternal mental health. Therefore, an overview of social media’s positive and negative impacts on maternal well-being is needed. This article presents a literature review of 7 articles, screened using the framework for narrative reviews method from Ferrari (2015), to explore the impact of social media use, including sharenting and social comparison, on maternal well-being. The reviewed literature includes studies involving mothers across diverse contexts, allowing for a broader understanding of the global impact on maternal well-being. The analysis found that social media development has both positive and negative impacts on maternal well-being. Positive impacts include easier access to information and social support. On the other hand, negative impacts involve social media use, increased depressive symptoms, and decreased life satisfaction, mainly due to pressure to fulfil ideal parenting standards. Keywords: housewives, intensive social media use, psychological distress

Abstract

Risky driving behaviour significantly contributes to traffic accidents, with gender long recognized as an influencing internal factor. However, findings on gender’s role in driving behaviour are inconsistent. This systematic review explores gender’s influence on two risky driving categories, violations and errors, while considering cultural context and research methodologies. Following PRISMA guidelines, an initial search yielded 110 articles. After title screening, 62 remained, with subsequent abstract review narrowing the selection to a final 21 scientific articles published between 2015 and 2025, primarily from ScienceDirect. Results indicate that men tend to commit more offences, while women commit more errors, particularly in WEIRD countries. Furthermore, the utilized research designs influenced the generalizability of the findings. This study emphasizes the significance of cross-cultural approaches and appropriate design in gender-based traffic safety research, highlighting the need for targeted interventions. Keywords: culture, errors, gender, research methods, risky driving behaviour, violations
