Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of folklore-based picture story media on the reading comprehension of third-grade students of Elementary School Cluster III Pagutan in the 2025/2026 academic year. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The research sample consisted of third-grade students of SDN 2 Sangkawana as the experimental class and third-grade students of SDN 1 Tunjang as the control class. The data collection technique used a reading comprehension ability test in the form of a pretest and posttest. Data analysis was carried out using the Shappiro Wilk normality test, Levene test homogeneity test, Mann-Whitney U Test, and effect size test. The results showed that the average posttest score of the experimental class was 71.29, higher than the control class at 53.23. The results of the hypothesis test obtained an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.008 <0.05, which indicates that there is a significant effect of the use of folklore-based picture story media on students' reading comprehension. Illustrated story media helps students understand the content of reading through visual illustrations and stories that are close to students' lives.

Abstract

The low level of conceptual understanding in IPAS learning among third-grade elementary school students remains a significant challenge, especially on the topic of energy sources in the surrounding environment. This study aimed to examine the effect of the Discovery Learning model assisted by animated video media on students’ conceptual understanding. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design involving an experimental class and a control class. Data were collected using pretest and posttest instruments administered to both groups. The experimental class received instruction through the Discovery Learning model integrated with animated video media, while the control class was taught using conventional learning methods. The findings revealed that the average score of the experimental class increased significantly from 24.81 in the pretest to 81.71 in the posttest. Meanwhile, the control class showed an increase from 25.84 to 69.56. The results indicate that students in the experimental class experienced greater improvement in conceptual understanding compared to those in the control class. Therefore, the application of the Discovery Learning model assisted by animated video media was proven effective in improving students’ conceptual understanding in IPAS learning, particularly on the topic of energy sources in the surrounding environment.

Abstract

The low level of students’ critical thinking and collaboration skills, along with the limited use of interactive learning media in physics learning, has become one of the major challenges in 21st-century education. This study aimed to develop the KARIKA educational game media based on the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach on global warming material and to determine its validity, practicality, and effectiveness in improving students’ critical thinking and collaboration skills in grade X of SMA N 1 Kertek. This research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, consisting of analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate stages. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and documentation. The research subjects included expert validators, physics teachers, and grade X students of SMA N 1 Kertek. The results showed that the KARIKA educational game media achieved an average validity score of 91.8% categorized as “very valid”. The practicality result obtained an average score of 86.82% categorized as “very practical” based on teachers’ and students’ responses. The effectiveness of the media was indicated by the paired sample t-test results showing a significant difference before and after the implementation of the media, as well as the N-Gain results of critical thinking skills at 68.74% and collaboration skills at 59.76%, both categorized as moderate or “quite effective”. These findings indicate that the CTL-based KARIKA educational game media is feasible to be used as an innovative, interactive, and contextual physics learning medium to support the improvement of students’ critical thinking and collaboration skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the implementation of preschool education policy directions and parents’ responses to children's participation in kindergarten. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. It was conducted in one kindergarten, involving five informants consisting of one principal, two teachers, and two parents. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The validity of the data was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The results indicate that informants generally have a good understanding of the importance of preschool education, and parents’ responses to children's participation in kindergarten tend to be positive. However, the implementation of preschool education policy directions has not been fully optimal because the policy remains advisory rather than mandatory, policy communication has not reached all parents effectively, and some parents still have limited understanding of the importance of preschool education. In addition, children's participation is influenced by socioeconomic factors and limited access to educational institutions. Therefore, improving the effectiveness of policy communication and strengthening support from various stakeholders are necessary to enhance children's participation in preschool education. This study is expected to serve as a reference for strengthening the implementation of preschool education policies in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model on students’ mathematical literacy skills in the topic of sequences, viewed from self-resilience. This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest–posttest nonequivalent control group design using a 2×3 factorial arrangement. The research sample consisted of an experimental class and a control class at MA Plus Nurul Islam Sekarbela. The research instruments included a mathematical literacy test, a self-resilience questionnaire, and observation sheets. Data were analyzed using the Independent Sample t-test and two-way ANOVA. The results showed that the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model had a significant effect on students’ mathematical literacy skills. The mean posttest score of the experimental class was higher than that of the control class. Meanwhile, self-resilience did not have a significant effect on mathematical literacy skills. Similarly, there was no significant interaction between the learning model and self-resilience. However, descriptively, students who learned through the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model showed higher mathematical literacy skills across all self-resilience categories compared to those in conventional learning. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model effectively improves students’ mathematical literacy skills on sequences material, while self-resilience and its interaction with the learning model do not have a significant effect.

Abstract

Evaluation in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) has predominantly focused on cognitive aspects, resulting in limited measurement of students’ affective and spiritual dimensions. This article aims to examine spiritual reflection as an evaluation instrument in Deep Learning–based PAI. This study employs a library research approach by analyzing relevant literature on Deep Learning, spiritual reflection, and evaluation in Islamic education. The findings indicate that spiritual reflection can be operationalized as an authentic and formative assessment tool to evaluate the internalization of religious values among students. The implementation of reflective evaluation can be carried out through various techniques, such as reflective journals, reflective discussions, muhasabah (self-introspection), spiritual portfolios, and the use of digital media. Thus, spiritual reflection functions not only as a learning strategy but also as an evaluative approach that supports the development of a more comprehensive and sustainable PAI evaluation system.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential in 21st-century physics education. However, learning processes that are still teacher-centered have hindered the optimal development of students’ critical thinking skills. The Problem Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by Educaplay media can serve as an alternative learning approach that enhances student engagement through interactive activities and problem-solving. This study aimed to determine the effect of the PBL model assisted by Educaplay on students’ critical thinking skills in the topic of thermal expansion. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a Pretest-Posttest  control group design. The research sample consisted of two eleventh-grade classes at MAN 2 Wonosobo selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was conducted using normality tests, homogeneity tests, independent sample t-tests, and N-Gain analysis. The results showed that the implementation of the PBL model assisted by Educaplay had a positive effect on students’ critical thinking skills. The average N-Gain score of the experimental class was higher than that of the control class. This study contributes to the development of technology-based physics learning to improve students’ higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

The mastery of punctuation material among fourth-grade elementary school students is often hindered by monotonous learning media and less meaningful learning processes. This condition requires innovative learning media that can facilitate student engagement and integrate local wisdom to create contextual and meaningful learning experiences. This study aimed to develop a local wisdom-based Uno card learning media for punctuation material and to examine its quality in terms of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model. The research subjects consisted of expert validators, 33 fourth-grade students, and the fourth-grade homeroom teacher of SD Negeri 3 Suranadi. Data collection instruments included validation sheets, student and teacher response questionnaires, and tests. The data analysis techniques used were descriptive validity analysis, descriptive practicality analysis, normality test, Paired Sample T-Test, and N-gain test. The results showed that the Uno card media and supporting books were successfully developed, with material validity reaching 92.5%, language validity 82%, and media validity 92.8%, all categorized as Very Valid. The study also indicated that the media was highly practical, with student response percentages reaching 89.6% and teacher responses 95%. The N-gain test result obtained a percentage of 60.67%, categorized as Moderately Effective. Therefore, the local wisdom-based Uno card media is considered very valid, highly practical, and moderately effective for learning activities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Civic Education (PPKn) teachers in shaping students’ understanding of citizens’ rights and obligations through active learning methods. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach conducted at SDN Gunung Gatep, Central Lombok. The subjects consisted of PPKn teachers, 36 fourth-grade students, and the school principal. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings show that the learning process is still dominated by teacher-centered methods such as lectures and question-answer sessions. Only 10 out of 36 students (±28%) were able to provide concrete examples of rights and obligations in daily life. Interviews revealed that students tend to memorize definitions without understanding their practical application. Teachers have implemented active learning methods such as discussions, group work, and role play, but student engagement remains uneven. The study concludes that although active learning contributes positively, its implementation has not been optimal due to limited time, varied student abilities, and low participation. Therefore, more adaptive teaching strategies and authentic evaluation are needed to improve students’ understanding.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of fostering students’ love for local culture amid the increasing influence of external cultures. Civic Education (Civics) learning can serve as a means to introduce and instill local cultural values, one of which is the Begibung culture, which embodies the values of togetherness, mutual cooperation, unity, and tolerance. This study aims to determine the implementation of Civics learning in fostering students’ love for the local Begibung culture and the challenges faced by teachers in integrating it in Grade IV at MI Riadhussolihin Tohir Yasin. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results show that the implementation of Civics learning based on Begibung culture is carried out through the stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation of learning. Teachers integrate Begibung values into materials on cooperation, unity, and togetherness, thereby fostering students’ interest, awareness, appreciation, and pride in local culture. The challenges encountered include limited learning media and resources, students’ low understanding of Begibung cultural values, limited instructional time, and the influence of external cultures. Nevertheless, Civics learning based on Begibung culture has contributed to fostering students’ love for local culture.
